Homestead Was A Surprise For Us
Homestead was a surprise for us. At first didn’t seem like much there but as we experienced the town we were very pleasantly surprised. Great places to eat , wonderful art deco theater with many options . Very convenient place to see all the things you want to see in South Florida. . Wish we had allowed more time because we missed some attractions that are supposed to be great like the Coral Castle. Shark Alley was VERY crowded on a Saturday. Loop drive nice.

South Florida Cities Ranked Among Most Dangerous In Us
Jeff Tavss, Executive Producer
MIAMI BEACH, Fla. Three South Florida cities are ranked among the 100 most dangerous in the U.S., according to rankings released Tuesday.
Homestead , Miami Beach and Lauderhill all made the list put out by NeighborhoodScout.com.
The rankings are based on the most recent FBI data using the number of violent crimes per 1,000 residents. Violent crimes include murder, rape, armed robbery, and aggravated assault.
Homestead totaled 802 violent crimes, including 9 murders, and is considered safer than only 5 percent of other U.S. cities. According to the data, residents of Homestead have a 1 in 85 chance of being a victim of a violent crime.
Surprisingly, Miami Beach is not considered safer than any other U.S. city, with 941 violent crimes in the data collection period and residents standing a 1 in 11 chance of being the victim of a violent crime.
In an email to Local 10, Miami Beach city manager Jimmy Morales disputed the findings, saying the rankings do not accurately depict crime in the city. Morales believes that although the population is just 91,000, those numbers do not take into account the 9 million tourists that visit annually.
With 10 murders among 657 violent crimes, Lauderhill is considered safer than 9 percent of other U.S. cities.
Most Dangerous Cities in the U.S.
- 1. Monroe, LA
- 3. East St. Louis, IL
- 4. Camden, NJ

Located just off South Dixie Highway in Homestead, the Coral Castle Museum is a unique outdoor attraction that was built by a local man entirely from local limestone.
Its still a mystery how he moved and manipulated the massive limestone blocks used in the castles construction some have suggested he may have had extraterrestrial help.
Though the verdict is still out on that claim, theres no doubt that its a popular attraction with children and adults alike, and its one of those one-of-a-kind Florida attractions that you wont see elsewhere.
Admission is very reasonable, and additional discounts may be offered for large groups.

They grow vegetables and herbs and offer visitors the opportunity to pick their own strawberries and tomatoes. Baked goods can be enjoyed at the coffee shop or ordered to go.
