What Are Some Good Local Things To Keep An Eye Out For

  • Enjoy the sunrise at Baldwin BeachMaui is mostly not known for its nightlife. In fact, most locals are in bed by 8 and up by 6 to enjoy the sunrise and the best waves. One of their favorite beaches is Baldwin Beach, a spot where the water is quite literally turquoise first thing in the morning. Even if you arent a big surfer, its a great place for boogie boarding or an early run.
  • Take your time on the road to HanaThe road to Hana is not meant to be rushed. Locals actually recommend that you take as long as possible and soak up the scenery and the delicious banana bread stands along the way. If your schedule allows it, make a day out of it.
  • Enjoy coffee at Maui Grown Coffee CompanyHawaii has some of the best coffee in the US, and Maui Grown Coffee serves the coffee beans they grow on their own coffee farm. Start your morning with a hot cup of joe and pastries before hiking the Iao Valley.
  • Go to First FridayOn every Friday of the month, there is an event called First Friday held all over the island. Local vendors set up stalls with souvenirs, gifts, and local bites while live music is played. There are also activities like lei-making classes and vintage car shows. Its one of the best ways to experience local goodies.

Kihei Is The Place To Stay In Maui

Kihei is the place to stay in Maui. There are lots and lots of beach areas with picnic tables and grills. There are different little shopping centers, and coffee shops and restaurants with REASONABLE prices!!! I’m an attorney and found Kaanapali and Wailea overhyped and pricey. Laihaina is too touristy. Kihei is just right. That Hawaiian vibe reverberates in Kihei.

Is Kihei A Good Place To Stay

I’m heading out to Maui the first week of August wiht my boyfriend and we’re confused on where to stay. I’ve found some decent accomodations in Lahaina and Kihei. The Kihei one is cheaper. Any suggestions?

Kihei is a fine place to stay. There are a lot of condos down in that area. Also it is a pretty short drive to South Maui’s beaches such as Makena. You shouldn’t over extend yourself on where you are staying. Meaning you could stay at a humble condo and have more money to spend on activities and dining out. Really you are only in your room to nap, change, shower, and shuteye that is about it. Granted being closer to the beach helps the cause for getting back to your room easily.

What are some of the accommodations you have found?

We really like South Kihei – found a small complex that is quiet with terrific views. Haven’t stayed in Lahaina there is more nightlife, etc over there – and more people. We also feel that Kihei is more convenient for “moving around the island”. Just our thoughts. But honestly, either city is nice.

I would take a look at reviews and ask questions about your choices. It depends on what you want. We enjoy West Maui, but will try S. Kihei next time. We didn’t care for Wailea. We are pretty casual and value the view over having a fabulous room without one. We like being close to nice restaurants. If you stay in a decent place and not the 4S, you will have the $ to do other things.

What are you hoping for? What activities are you planning?

    Staying In Kaanapali Vs Kihei

The Best Ocean Views in Kihei Maui Hawaii

Does anyone have any preferences as to Kaanapali beach vs. the staying on the beaches around Kiehei? It sounds like Kiehei is quieter. Is it too quiet? Anywhere to eat or drink? It sounds like Kaanapali has a lot to do. Is it too croweded?

    Thanks much

Actually, Kihei is more of a town. A lot more locals there. We prefer Kihei, ourselves. There are lots of great restaurants, and lots of great watering holes. We found that places shut down pretty early in Ka’anapali & Lahaina. So if you want to stay out late, you’re kind of out of luck. Another nice thing about Kihei is that it’s almost right in between Waileia and Lahaina….if you want a change. And you are much closer to Big Beach!

We stay in Kihei, but there are reasons to stay in Kanapali. If you want to stay at a hotel, on the beach and use that beach, Kanapali is the best. The beaches in most of Kihei are not useable for snorkeling/swimming-but a 10 minute drive can get you to great beaches. Kihei is more centrally located, more laid back, not as touristy. Lots of condos at reasonable prices.

Is the Big Beach also a State Park? I’m getting confused when reading books on these too. Any more info. about Kihei would be great also. Has anyone stayed at the Coast Hotel in Kihei? Thinking of doing this myself. How far is it to Wailea from Kihei?

    Thanks!

Big Beach is actually Makenna State Park. Kihie is about a 10 or 15 minute drive to Wailea.

Kihei have a better nightlife than Kaanapli or Lahaina?

    Awful Host Misleading Advertising

Awful host, misleading advertising. Twin bed which was clearly in one of the condo pictures was completely missing. Sofa bed was all spring and not pad. When I pointed out to the host that the twin bed was missing, the host said that it was not advertised as such and that I should produce proof. I took a screen shot of one of the pictures on their website which clearly shows a twin bed by the king bed, and texted it to the host. I then got silence for six days. When I followed through on my request, the host merely told me to send it my request to customer care. I ended up buying my own mattress pad for $100 just so my kids can be comfortable sleeping in the sofa bed. It’s a shame that this happened, when the condo needed only a few tweaking to make it worth our stay. Under current condition, I cannot recommend this condo to a family of four. They need to get their act together first, before I can change my take.
