We also took the Maui Chocolate Tour, that starts on Ulipono Street…wonderful! Want “ordinary” groceries–one block from Front Street, you’ll find Safeway, Shell, Starbucks. Go see the banyan park, and the old courthouse, down by the docks…a museum that gives you a good sense of the history, including whaling. This hotel is breathtaking! The lobby is open air but always staffed with friendly, helpful people. A huge, lovely waterfall, plumeria, green foliage greets your eye, along w real pink flamingoes and koi ponds.. Feels like a tropical paradise! The floors, stores, restrooms are spotless! 4 wonderful pools, along with an adults- only pool and jacuzzi also are there! Fabulous cocktails and food can be delivered right to your spot by the pool. The rooms are very nice the shower has great water pressure! The location is PERFECT! Right on the beach, with a great pathway connecting many hotels as you enjoy the beautiful ocean. Whalers Village is two minutes away! Cant say enough!! Worth the price!!

The beach at Lahaina is attractiveits a Maui beach, of course, it isbut not spectacular. At least, not compared to other beaches on the island. However, when you stay in Lahaina, youre just a short journey away from Kaanapali, and Kaanapali has one of the best beaches in the world.
As in, Kaanapali has literally won awards for its beach. West Maui is also home to Oneloa Beach, and D.T. Fleming Beach to the north. Head south, and you have spectacular snorkeling at Olowalu.
Paia has gorgeous beaches right on your doorstep. First, theres Baldwin Beach Park. The most popular beach on the North Shore, Baldwin Beach Park has plenty of facilities, soft sands, and invigorating surf.
Baby Beach is a beach and protected lagoon, which is technically part of Baldwin Beach. Here, the sand is just as soft, but the surf is calmer. An early morning swim at Baby Beach is the perfect way to start the day.
Finally, we have Hookipa Beach Park. Not one for swimmers, the sight of sea turtles and professional windsurfers makes the trips worth it.

Is It Cheaper To Stay In Lahaina Or Paia
Lahaina is home to a few small boutique hotels, with larger resorts located further up the coast of West Maui. A stay here can be expensive, especially as the food and restaurants charge high tourist prices.
However, as a larger town with plenty of visitor areas nearby, theres a lot to choose from.
Paia is smaller and tends to be a lower-priced stay. There arent any big resorts. Instead, charming and unusual guest houses welcome visitors.
Restaurants and food stores are also well priced, and nearby Kahului has cheaper eats as well. But Paia is small, so choices are limited.
Where To Stay In Upcountry
This is rural Maui, also in the middle of the island, just south of Central Maui. While its not a typical tourist choice for a base, youll meet more locals than tourists with easy access everywhere.
Upcountry Maui is locals Maui away from the beaches. In fact, Hawaiians have been farming taro and sweet potatoes in this fertile heartland of green rolling hills and drifting fog for generations.
Youll inevitably pass through here on your way to Haleakala even if you dont stay here as you pass rural outposts and goat farms. Upcountry is more than just a place its a way of life.
Pros and cons: Stay in upcountry if youre looking for a peaceful, authentic Maui experience. Skip it if youre interested in nightlife. The weather can also be cooler here .

A huge tile deck wraps around the whole house.

In 1873, a small banyan tree was planted near the courthouse at Lahaina Harbor to commemorate the 50thanniversary of the first Protestant mission in the town. The tree was 8 feet tall. Now the famed Lahaina banyan tree the largest banyan in the United States is a truly astounding sight. The original massive trunk is now joined by 16 other trunks spread over nearly an acre of land yet this is all just one tree! No stay in Lahaina is complete without a visit to Banyan Tree Park. Its a popular gathering place for people, as well as birds youll hear them squawking at dusk as they settle in to roost for the night under the magnificent banyans leafy green canopy.
