Staying On Little Cayman

Little Cayman is the smallest and least developed of the three Cayman Islands. Advice on how to get around, where to stay and what to do on Little Cayman.

  • Watersports
  • Little Cayman was the site of the Cayman Islands first settlement, when turtle fishermen set up fishing camps in the 1600s. Raided by a Spanish privateer and abandoned in 1671, Little Cayman was not settled permanently until 1833, when a few families established Blossom Village.

    Kimpton Seafire Resort + Spa

Kimpton Resort and Spa is a great place to experience some local vibe and influence. This is one of the newly established resorts on Seven Mile Beach. Its hotel experience is quite different than other luxury resorts on the Cayman Islands.

Nearly all the rooms have floor-to-ceiling windows that give a mesmerizing ocean view. Here you have the option of staying in freestanding beachfront bungalows. Besides, the resort also offers a fitness center and a stylish spa. During your stay, the resort gives you a GoPro camera to capture the memories. But you have to buy a memory card.

Moreover, the resort fee covers all non-motorized water sports and fitness classes. Here you will eat a Mediterranean grill in a beachside café having a Caribbean and Mexican menu.

Cayman Bracs Captain Keith Tibbet Wreck

While visiting Cayman Brac, Captain Keith Tibbet Wreck is worth seeing. This Wreck is a 330 feet long Russian frigate and was deliberately sunk off Cayman Brac. The purpose was to create an artificial reef. The Wreck is now rusted and home to thousands of scorpionfish, groupers, and some green moray eels. The ships remains are at 30 to 100 feet below the sea level. As the intermediate dive is nearly 200 yards, you need to take a boat to visit the site.

If you are a new diver, it is easy for you to visit the Wreck. Thanks to the low current and high visibility. If you are a skilled scuba diver and want to penetrate the Wreck, be ready for the challenges.

    Queen Elizabeth Ii Botanic Park

Visiting Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park is one of the best things to do in the Cayman Islands for tourists. The park reserves flora and fauna of the islands. You will also spot some endangered Blue Iguana here. You can see lily-topped ponds, woodlands habitats, colorful flowers, palm gardens, and orchids in the garden. You can identify the trees and plants as there are labels on them.

You can also find some wild animals living in the park, such as birds, snakes, lizards, agoutis, and turtles. If you want to see some rare plants and Blue Iguana, book a guided tour. And in about five minutes drive from here, you can enjoy hiking the Mastic Trail.

Update from hotel:Read moreTravel Safe hubkt*babyBeautifulWe stayed at LCBR the last week of March 2012 and had a wonderful time. We upgraded to a beach room and didn’t regret it. It was nice to have the added privacy and quiet of being away from the pool area. Room 216 had a separate staircase and private deck which we enjoyed. The food was rich and plentiful. Some of the selections, seemed a little heavy for a beach resort, but lots of people were eating it. There were plenty of lighter choices and salad fixings. I do wish there were more local dishes though I’m not sure what that would be. Maybe Jamaican or Cuban flavors? The bar is fun but expensive, since everything has to be flown in. Youll land in Grand Cayman at Owen Roberts International .

If youre staying long in Grand Cayman, if youre staying away from Seven Mile Beach, or if you want to get around easily, its recommended that you rent a car. Otherwise, taxi is your option. We stayed in West Bay and we did a lot of waiting and calling for taxis which was a bit of a hassle.

    A Surprising Number Of Attractions

For such a small place, you’ll be surprised at the number of attractions to visit. While you stay at a Little Cayman vacation rental, you can explore the Little Cayman Museum which houses a unique collection of local historic artifacts. Alternatively, the vast research center is a decades-old, not-for-profit organization which looks to protect the islands’ coral reefs through education and conservation. Meanwhile, the Booby Pond and Rookery is part of the Cayman Islands National Trust and is home to the largest population of blue-footed boobies. Well worth an afternoon to explore.

    Mastic Reserve And Trail

    Pirates Point Resort

If you want some time away from the beach, take a route to the Mastic Reserve and Trail on Grand Cayman. The best thing is that it gives an entirely different perspective of Grand Caymans natural attractions. The trail protects a dry subtropical forest. The forest is disappearing due to deforestation.

If you want to visit the reserve, walk on the Mastic Trail. The trail is 3.7 km long and takes you through dry forest, black mangrove wetland, and silver thatch palms. The trail was originally built 100 years ago but was not used for a long time. But after a repair, it reopened during the 1990s. Walking on the Mastic Trail is one of the best things to do in the Cayman Islands.

Here you can spot wild orchids, birds, lizards, hermit crabs, and frogs. To explore the flora and fauna of the Mastic Reserve, take a guided tour. Remember, bring lots of water, mosquito repellent and wear sturdy shoes. To enjoy the trail, you will typically need 2 to 3 hours.

The Best Place To Stay In Little Cayman

This is my third year in a row returning to Pirates Point and this is were I’ll continue to return to. I’ve stayed at several of the other resorts and they all have good points. However, for me I like a small quiet get-a-way that has great food, outstanding staff, and scuba diving at its best is what attracts me to this place. More

Our goal is to be your island home-away-from-home, and whenever our guests come to feel that way, than we consider our job well done. Thank you so much for your kind words. It’s guests like yourself that make Pirates Point so desirable. Many thanks,

Stayed at Pirates Point for a week in late February early March. This was our 7th visit to the resort. Many improvements since our last stay. The meals are always 5 star with two great chefs preparing 3 meals a day for up to a maximum of 20 guests. Beautiful ocean front location. The scuba diving is the best in the Caribbean with extremely heathy reefs and abundant sea life including turtles, rays, sharks, groupers, eels, etc. Top notch dive masters with small dive groups and well equipped dive boat. Highly Recommended!!!

Where To Stay In The Cayman Islands

Since youll be landing in Grand Cayman first, staying put is a good option because the biggest island has plenty to do and plenty of accommodations. If youd like a slower pace, visit Little Cayman or Cayman Brac. Cayman Brac is known to be the most Caymanian island and is much less tourism focused. Many of the accommodations on Little Cayman are diving-focused but you dont need to dive to stay there.

Grand Cayman HotelsThe average Airbnb on Seven Mile Beach is about $327 a night. Hotels on Seven Mile Beach are easily $600 a night while the average hotel night in Grand Cayman is about $300 a night.

While Stingray City is a popular attraction in Grand Cayman, I do not support it. This is a place where you can take a tour to swim and feed southern stingrays. While they are not trapped in enclosures, the act of baiting and touching the stingrays for years has changed their natural habits. Ive also read accounts of stingrays aggressively swimming onto tourists, almost knocking them over, because the stingrays know tourists have food. There have been few injuries but know while they are friendly here, they are still wild creatures. If you want to see stingrays in their natural habitat, try a Discover Scuba trip.

I have now stayed at the Little Cayman Beach Resort twice. The excellence of the staff was evident both times. Everyone from front desk, to restaurant servers, to bar tenders, provide great service, and always with a smile. The chef here is a master at providing amazing food at every meal and superb desserts. They provide games and entertainment every night. They are also located a very short distance from the dive sites, average 10-15 minutes. The on site dive operation, Reef Divers, is a true valet service. Loading and setting up your gear each day, then breaking it down , rinsing, and storing it. Excellent pre-dive briefings and fabulous diving. Divers’ paradise!

But the main reason for being there is the diving and the diving was great. Reef Divers are onsite and the staff, equipment and boats are all exceptional. Nice wall dives on the Cayman Ridge or Cayman Trench, that reach depths of 25,000 feetyes thats 25 thousand feet. The coral is healthy with lots of beautiful and sometimes strange looking fish. Overall, a great Caribbean dive trip.

The Famous Stingray City Of Grand Cayman

Best places to stay in Little Cayman, Caribbean

In the Grand Caymans North Sound area, you will find the world-famous Stingray City. On any of the three Cayman Islands, Stingray City is the most favorite spot for tourists. The Caymans Islands is one of the greatest tax heaven destinations and thats makes most of hotels expensive.

This city is a shallow sandbar. Here you interact and feed the wild Atlantic stingrays. These stingrays live freely in the sea waters. They are not caged or have any kind of enclosures. Many tourists love to go too close to them as they are not dangerous. But the condition is you have to follow the instructions of the instructors.

There are custom-built boats to visit this shallow sandbar. The water is crystal-clear, and you can easily feed and cuddle stingrays. If you are a bit scared to touch them, kneel on the bottom and watch them swim around you.

    Eden Rock & Devils Grotto

Visiting this place is one of the best things to do in the Cayman Islands. When you go to the South of Seven Mile Beach, nearly 46 feet below the surface, you will find Eden Rock and & Devils Grotto. If you are fond of diving, this is the most famous diving spots in Grand Cayman. Both of these are underwater mazes. These underwater mazes filled with silversides, tarpon, barracuda, and parrotfish look beautiful. Whether you are an advanced snorkeler or a beginner, this place is a must to visit.

If you are willing to visit, you can take try the services of a diving center and use rental equipment. The most significant benefit of using the diving center is that they are close to the cruise ship terminal, helping in an easy and quick shore excursion.
