You Must Tour The Louisville Slugger Museum

You must tour the Louisville Slugger museum. The exhibits at the beginning were fascinating and I didn’t realize how interesting bat production was. Had only one day in the city so spent it at bourbon distilleries nearby. Loads of fun whether you are a big bourbon drinker or not. Maker’s Mark outside the city is worth a stop. Where we stayed near the river had a lot of one-way streets which could complicate drives but we just hoofed it everywhere. We would visit again but see another part of the city. We also give a thumbs up to Spaghetti Factory and Mussel & Burger for great meals! Also it seems that many restaurants close on Mondays so be aware.

How To Get Around Louisville

I did say above that its possible to get around Louisville without a rental car, if youre so inclined. And if youre sticking to the neighborhoods above, it is! You will need a rental car if youre venturing out to the Kentucky Bourbon Trail or some of the other day trips from Louisville, and having a car does make it easier to get around Louisville parking is easy, cheap, and plentiful but here are some other ways to get around Louisville.

Louisvilles public transportation system is called TARC . The buses will take you all over Louisville, and even into Indiana and other neighboring counties, for $1.75 a ride. TARC is particularly useful for covering the small distances between the downtown-area neighborhoods, and youll find tons of stops nearby. Use the trip planner to plan your route or take a look at the System Map to find a stop near you.

For anywhere that Tarc doesnt go, take a Lyft! . We had no problem finding a Lyft at 2am when we arrived in the airport to take us the 10 minutes to our AirBnB in Old Louisville. No car needed!

Louisvilles got a brand new Bike Share system called LouVelo! There are stops all over Louisvilles downtown area, which is conveniently mostly flat and covered in bike lanes, too. Grab a bike, go for a ride, and drop it off again. Its easy, cheap, great exercise, too!

You can also rent a bike to explore Louisville.

There’s A Sparkly Red Limo

Hotels in Louisville KY : GoToLouisville.com Official ...

You can even take the funky glamour that comes with your stay on the road. Louisville artist Monica Mahoney has transformed a 1996 Lincoln Town Car into “Arillated: The 21c Pip Mobile.” The limo has been covered in thousands of red glass arilloid gems to resemble the interior of a pomegranate. Typically, it sits to the side of the hotel not too far from that David statue, but for $120 per hour, the hotel’s valet staff can shuttle you to whatever wedding, dinner or distillery tour you need to be at.

One of the most iconic fixtures in the Louisville skyline is the Galt House. Actually, two of them: the red and white hotel is split between twin buildings, connected by a skyway, and its classical style matches the historic Belle of Louisville steamboat parked in the river out front.

The Galt House is located right on the Ohio River waterfront. Youâll take in views of the chevron-peaked, identical steel bridges and scalloped, blackened historic walking bridge criss-crossing the Ohio River as you relax by the pool or workout at the gym If youâre feeling romantic, make a reservation at the hotelâs Rivue Restaurant and Lounge and enjoy an intimate meal as you slowly rotate high over the Ohio River and appreciate one of Louisvilleâs truly epic sunsets glinting off of the domed Providian tower and sparkling across the waves of the Ohio River.

With its Artist Residence program, the Galt House has embraced Louisvilleâs rich and varied arts scene. The hotel is also walking distance from some of the best cultural institutions in Louisville, including Museum Row, the Kentucky Center for the Arts, and Actorâs Theatre. Take a long bike ride down the waterfront and across the Big Four Bridge before heading back to your hotel to freshen up for a night at the theater.

The drivers were rude, ignorant and aggressive! On top of that, Your are charged an admission fee just to enter this city from the North if you are traveling on I65. The roads are confusing and congested. There were no good food options at or near where I stayed. I would not choose a ground floor motel room where I stayed again because I saw bugs in the room the following morning.
