I’ve tried to read up on this. I’ve looked up lots of hotel reviews and I’ve checked out the maps so I just want an opinion from the people in the know if you don’t mind. My bf and I are visiting California In Sept and are thinking of spending 3 nights of our trip in LA. The plan initially was to stay in Santa Monica somewhere plush but the more I look the more overpriced it all seems. We want to be near the beach and walking distance to Venice beach and Santa Monica. I can see that hotels in Marina del Rey are much better value but obviously much further away. Would anyone have any advice on Marina del Rey? is it too far out? We are just looking to see it all, chill on the beach and have some nice food and drinks. We don’t have any real reason to stay in Santa Monica other than advice of friends who say its great. We are willing to spend between 200 and 300 a night but would prefer lower obviously! but not really looking to go completely budget. Any advice? Sorry if this sounds stupid or ignorant!
Santa Monica is an independent city, safe, walkable, lots of restaurants and things to do. We also have mass transit – Expo light rail – to get in and out of LA without driving, a big bonus.
Both are close to LAX. They are about 3 miles from one another. You can ride the beach bike path between them easily .
