The Lower East Side, East Village, and Nolita are filled with incredible and varied restaurants, gorgeous old tenement buildings with beautiful fire escapes. You feel what it is like to live like New Yorkers do if you stay in these areas of Manhattan.
The best thing I love about these neighborhoods is that many parts of the city are easy to get to on foot from here. Most importantly for some, the people watching can be the best in the city! There is a range of bars and nightlife for every type, from younger clubs to old, grizzled dive bars.

The Upper West Side is a good spot for budget travelers, as its still close to the action without being as touristy as other areas. Sandwiched between The Hudson River and Central Park, the Upper West Side also has a lot more options for green retreats to escape city traffic.
Its a convenient neighborhood to stay in thanks to its proximity to the nightlife in the Hells Kitchen neighborhood, the fine arts scene of Lincoln center, and the bustle of city life in the downtown area. Plus, the area is known for its excellent dining scene and artisanal bakeries to help you satisfy your sweet tooth.
Why Stay In Downtown Manhattan
Downtown Manhattan is the best area for tourist sightseeing with affordable accommodations. The hotels here are relatively more affordable than those in Midtown. We stayed in the financial district for part of our holiday in New York as a way to save cost. Staying in the unique local neighbourhoods instead of touristy districts will also give you deeper insights into the culture of New York City.
Midtown South Manhattan Where To Stay In New York City To Be At The Heart Of Everything
Midtown South in Manhattan is about the closest area we could come up to encompass the strip of real estate between Madison Square Park and Bryant Park, sandwiched between 5th and 6th avenues.
This central strip of Midtown South is where you will find NoMad, Koreatown, Empire State Building and Macys department store.
Technically this area could stretch a little further South and West into Chelsea, which we loved walking around but think is more for third, fourth or fifth time visitors to NYC.

Why Is Soho Of The Best Places To Stay In Nyc
SoHo is about style and appearance but in a more gritty way than the Champ-Elyses in Paris. Is it pretentious? Maybe a little, but SoHo is better for its swagger.
SoHo has the most local and residential feel in Manhattan among this list of where to stay in New York City.
However, if youre looking for a more authentic NYC stay, you should look at hotels closer to Chelsea and Greenwich Village.

Best For Affordable Accommodation: Little Italy / Chinatown
These two ethnic enclaves are adjacent to each other. In Little Italy, we saw many Italian bistros serving Italian fare on red-and-white checkered tablecloths. Chinatown is home to many old-school Chinese restaurants, tourist shops, bubble tea shops, Chinese herbal remedy shops, and fresh produce stalls. If you are staying in this district, I highly recommend Hotel 50 Bowery NYC, a wonderful four-star hotel in Chinatown that offers spacious and beautiful rooms at great rates. There is even a rooftop bar with great views of the city. Service is great as well.
