Safe Areas To Stay In New Orleans
We are planning a vacation to New Orleans in March 2015 and would like some advice on what areas would be good to stay in for walk to eating and shopping? we have some concerns about safety. We like staying in B& Bs and condo type rentals. We are not much for night life. Thanks.
I would stay in the French Quarter or the Faubourg Marigny neighborhood. This will give you a central location, close to lots of things to do and see and plenty of restaurants to walk to.
Hotel Le Marais, 717 Conti St in the French Quarter, 1/2 block to the police station and courthouse. Actually pretty much anywhere in the Quarter. I avoid Burgundy St at nite however. I walk the lower Quarter by myself a lot and have never had a problem but Im always aware of my surroundings.
Contrary to what most people believe, the French Quarter is not one big party. The party is only a small part of it. So even though youre not into nightlife, its still a great place to stay.
The suggestion of the Faubourg Marigny is also a good choice.
Elysian Fields Inn is a very nice B& B in the Marigny, close to French Quarter.
Owners Jim and Lee are great hosts, and will gladly orient you to the neighborhood and the city.
I stayed at Le Pavillon last spring and thought it was a nice base between visiting the french quarter and the garden district. There were some really great restaurants within a couple of blocks as well. I dont think we ever felt unsafe around the hotel.
