Boot Hill A must see in Ogallala Nebraska

Do not travel internationally until you are fully vaccinated. If you are not fully vaccinated and must travel, follow CDCs international travel recommendations for people who are not fully vaccinated.

Fully vaccinated travelers are less likely to get and spread COVID-19. However, international travel poses additional risks, and even fully vaccinated travelers might be at increased risk for getting and possibly spreading some COVID-19 variants.

The COVID-19 situation, including the spread of new or concerning variants, differs from country to country. All travelers need to pay close attention to the conditions at their destination before traveling.

  • Very Pleased With This Choice Of A Place To Stay In Ogallala

Ogalalla, Nebraska would likely not be a destination for you but more likely a town you pass through on your way across the country. Our desire was to find a place to spend the night that was reasonably priced, located away from the freeway so we could walk around for a little exercise and get away from traffic noise, and that was clean. The Stagecoach Inn met all those criteria and then some. All in all, a very nice place for a reasonable price . Very well-maintained, nice grounds, clean, good breakfast, nice pool and a trail along the neighboring river which, although not very long, was still nice to have for an outdoor stroll. An excellent value for the price.More

Valentine: Romance And Recreation On The Niobrara River

Every day of the year is Valentines Day in Valentine, Nebraskas Heart City. I bragged about Valentine for years, and last summer my husband decided we had to visit. Valentine did not disappoint.

The Niobrara River, a National Scenic River, is Valentines biggest attraction. Float down the river in style. While floating, watch for more than 90 waterfalls cascading down the cliffs. Nebraskas highest waterfall, Smith Falls, and nearby Fort Falls are the best known. We loved the horseshoe-shaped Norden Chute.

For a floating alternative, drive the river road. Use the map in the Cherry County visitor guide . The Cowboy Trail provides excellent river views.

Eat at the Peppermill, a third-generation steakhouse, and The Old Mill, a wood-fired pizzeria, deli, bakery, and bulk food store. Stay at the Niobrara River Ranch. In the evening, drive half an hour west to tiny Nenzel, home of Niobrara Valley Vineyards. Follow their directions.

Pro Tip: For the lowest rates and smallest crowds during floating season, explore Valentine on weekdays.

Editors Note: For a truly unique experience, consider tanking, which consists of floating down the river in a cattle tank. Heres whytanking is the ultimate river experience!

Ogallala Was Picked As An Over Night Stop Because Of

    Ogallala Lake McConaughy KOA

Ogallala was picked as an over night stop because of it’s location on our way to our destination. We hit the jackpot! We read historical markers around town and learned quite a bit. We explored Boot Hill, very interesting. Mansion on the Hill was closed because it was a Monday. We drove out to the Ogallala Beach access of the lake and discovered a delightful little state campground right on the waters edge! Then on up 61 we stopped to view the Kingsley Dam. While there we decided to travel on to see “The Little Church” so we called the number and were fortunate to locate someone to open it by the time we drove over the dam and 5 miles to get there! We couldn’t have been more delighted with our visit.

North Platte: A River Buffalo Bill And A Railroad Hub

Mind-boggling numbers of railcars pass through the Union Pacific Railroads Bailey Yard. Bailey Yard is the worlds largest train yard, handling 14,000 rail cars per day. Watch the dance from the Golden Spike Tower. The upper-level viewing deck offers 360 degrees of glassed-in comfort, but we preferred the open-air lower deck. During World War II, North Platte Canteen volunteers fed six million service people who passed through North Platte on troop trains for free, while civilians food was rationed.

World-famous showman William F. Buffalo Bill Cody established his ranch in North Platte. His mansion, barn, and other outbuildings stand in the 16-acre Buffalo Bill Ranch State Historical Park. Codys Wild West shows still influence how mass entertainment portrays the west. For the ultimate kitschy roadside attraction, visit Fort Cody Trading Post.

Eat at Pals Brewing Company and Tempura Japanese Restaurant. Stay at the adorable throwback Husker Inn.

Pro Tip: Every spring, 300,000 sandhill cranes occupy the North Platte River. Their haunting song will live in your heart forever after you watch their beautiful mating dances. Make hotel reservations early during crane season.

    Historic Scottsbluff And Nebraskas Mountains

When we studied Nebraska history, we learned that Nebraska has mountains. Mountains? In Nebraska? Yes. The 800-foot Scotts Bluff National Monument is an outlier of the Rockies, and it dominates the skyline above Scottsbluff and Gering. Its the westernmost in a series of landmark rock formations on Nebraskas Oregon Trail. Hike, drive, or ride the shuttle to the summit and walk the Oregon Trail.

Eat at the Tangled Tumbleweed tapas bar and Flyover Brewing. Take in the shops at Uptown Scottsbluff. Stay in a century-old barn at Barn Anew Bed and Breakfast.

Pro Tip: Explore Nebraskas mountains, the Wildcat Hills, at the Wildcat Hills State Recreation Area 10 miles south of Gering.

The staff was great and all where very helpful and accommodating. They are remodeling and would ask for a already remodeled room. Our room wasn’t one of the remodeled so really needed some deep cleaning but we were on the west side of the building and never did hear any of the Interstate traffic.
