Don’t think that all of Salida is on Hwy 50, it’s not. Head north from 50 on E Street and you’ll run into the old business district where the town really lives. Salida is a “Rivertown”. The Arkansas flows right right through the town and that is a big draw for recreation. A couple of really nice parks are at the center of town. Lots of restaurants to pick from. They are lacking when it comes to Asian cuisine. Fantastic pizza at Pizza Rio and the rest of the entrees looked delicious as well. Brown Dog Coffee is ok if you perfer a really mild roast. Salida is a great place to spend sometime just unwinding if your looking to not jam pack your day with activities.

I Absolutely Love Spending Time In Salida Co
I absolutely love spending time in Salida, CO. It is a great stay when I am traveling home from Denver to Mancos. Love the restaurants, especially The Boathouse. Right on the river and excellent food and mixed drinks. Downtown parking is a challenge sometimes as they have part of the main street blocked off for outside dining.

The rooms were clean, well decorated, and had all the amenities that we needed. The hot tub house was clean, large, and very relaxing after a day on the slopes. We were welcomed by a gracious host and found a well scrubbed room with mix and match furniture knotty pine walls and ceiling in a small room. The motel is right on the highway with some traffic. Our room was on the highway there were some rooms off the highway around a charming courtyard. We assume less traffic noise with a room in the back. There is nothing fancy here but on the upside it is not a cookie cutter franchise hotel and it is well maintained with a good bed.

Other reviewers have adequately talked about the clean, comfortable rooms, new TVs, and the other amenities, giving it a well-deserved 5-star rating. My purpose here is to praise Teresa, the owner – an amazing host. My buddy and I stayed at the Poncha Lodge while biking the CO Trail in early September, 2013. The day before our arrival, we shuttled our non-essential biking gear from Buena Vista to the Poncha Lodge. Teresa had no problem with keeping our gear for us overnight. When we arrived the next day , Teresa let us keep our mountain bikes in her garage. The next morning, my buddy realized that he needed AAA batteries for his GPS, and Teresa gave him some – and refused to take any money. Then she shuttled us, our bikes and all of our gear up to the top of Monarch Pass so we could continue our trip along the CT. Again, she refused to take any money for this! In short, this is THE place to stay. Teresa, you rock!Oh, and by the way, there’s an excellent Thai restaurant – Thai Mini Cafe – just a two minute walk from the Poncha Lodge. Always nice when you can check into a hotel, then walk to dinner.More
