Where To Stay In Qubec City
Set high on the banks of the St Lawrence River, Québec City is one of North Americas most beautiful cities, an authentically French-Canadian metropolis. It overflows with history museums, old manoirs, and churches abound but its the thrill of experiencing a café au lait in a Parisian-style café without crossing the Atlantic that appeals to most visitors.
Old Québec is relatively compact, so walking is the best way to get around. For sights further out, local buses are pretty reliable. You can also rent àVélo e-bikes at 10 different stations.
Although most of the hotels are in Old Québec, basing oneself outside the city walls can be more affordable hotel and B& B rates are generally lower, there are more apartment rentals, and parking is definitely easier and cheaper.

Quebec City is beautiful anytime, but Christmas is even nicer. There is an energy that you dont find anywhere else, bar none. The decorations make it a winter wonderland and the people are so friendly. I was amazed by all the English that is spoken everywhere you go.A side trip to Montmorency Falls is a must.Do have at least one meal at Le Cochon Dingue. There are two in Old Quebec – one on St. Jean Street and the other at Place Champlain.

An up-and-coming neighbourhood, Saint-Sauveur was once quite wealthy, before residents moved into the suburbs and the neighbourhood became more blue collar. While the neighbourhood is mostly residential, there is an increase in gourmet restaurants, as well as a micro-brewery, Brasserie Griendel.
Kraken Cru is a raw restaurant serving up oysters, which was also voted as one of the best new restaurants in Canada by enRoute Magazine. Le Pied Bleu is a go-to for Sunday Brunch and Le Renard et la Chouette is all about Québécois comfort food. The further you venture into the neighbourhood, the more likely you are to stumble upon a small family run diner serving up hamburgers, spaghetti and other fast and easy eats. While not gourmet in any way, these places have their own charm and the experience can be fun as long as you dont mind that the owners may not know English.

How To Get In And Around Qubec City
Most people arrive by train or plane, and a few by bus. While the airport is not anywhere near the city centre, the train and bus stations are.
Jean Lesage International Airport is located about 15 kms from Old Québec. If arriving by plane, the best way to get into the city is by taxi, which is a flat fee of $35 CAD. There is a bus, however the first stop is a 20-35 minute walk from the airport.
Orléans Express offers bus service between Montréal and Québec City, which takes you to the bus terminal beside Gare du Palais, the train station in the neighbourhood of Vieux-Port. From there you can walk up to Old Québec or take bus #11 for $3.50 CAD.
Québec City is best explored on foot, however some of the outer neighbourhoods are more easily accessible by bus. A one-way ticket is $3.50 CAD or $3 CAD when you buy it from an authorized vendor . If youd like to venture into a couple outer neighbourhoods, as well as Montmorency Falls, opt for an unlimited weekend pass for $15.50 CAD or buy day passes for $8.50 CAD. Be sure to download the RTC Nomade app for information on routes and bus status.
While Québec City does not have a Bixi bike program, there are a few places where you can rent a bike for 4-hours , 24-hours or more. Keep in mind that some rental shops require a security deposit of $250 CAD.

Just outside the walls of Old Québec lies Parliament Hill. Its home to several government centers, notably the Parliament Building itself, completed in 1886 and one of Canadas finest structures . Nearby, on the top floor of the tallest building in the city , the Observatoire de la Capitale offers a 360-degree panoramic view of the whole region. The adjacent Plains of Abraham serves as the citys leafy Central Park, though it was the site of the pivotal Battle of Québec in 1759 which saw Wolfes British troops decisively defeat Montcalms French army and effectively end French control in North America. The parks Musée des Plaines dAbraham chronicles the event. The areas main drag is the Grande Allée, filled with sidewalk restaurants and cafés along with plenty of bars that fuel a lively nightlife.

Staying here is generally quieter, and a bit cheaper, but theres less choice and quality is not as high as Old Québec. On the other hand, its only a short walk or ride from Old Québec, and there are plenty of restaurants and bars on Grande Allée.
