Scala Contarini Del Bovolo
Deep in the backstreets of San Marco, lies a great underrated attraction, the Palazzo Contarini del Bovolo. A 15th century palace built for Venices founding families, the sight that most people come to see is the stunning scala or spiral staircase that runs up the side of the palace. From the top most terrace youre treated to a nice view across the citys rooftops, but the real draw is seeing this brick and marble spiral staircase up close.

Venice Museum And Archives
If youre interested in learning more about the citys history, then take a trip to the Venice Museum and Archives, which are found in the heart of downtown.
The building the museum is housed in dates back to 1927 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Youll find several different exhibitions exploring the history of the local area, with most of the tales and exhibits beginning around the mid 19th century, when Europeans began to settle in the south of Florida.
Venice Is A Lovely Town
Venice is a lovely town. You have Venice Beach, the main little downtown on the island then Venice proper is on the main land. We love to walk the main thoroughfare and visit the shops. Our favorite place is Venice Wine and Coffee. They serve the best espresso drinks and Richard in the wine shop will convince you to buy one of the wines they carry which are not usually found in other stores. Many gift shops and clothes shops are featured in town. They have several excellent Italian restaurants and an Irish pub called Carney’s. On the next street back are several specialty shops and resale shops as well as antique shops. Venice Beach is a nice large beach with room for fun in the sun, swimming and walking. Another favorite spot is driving to the jetty for spectacular sunset watching.

How To Get Around Venice
A city of canals, getting around during your weekend in Venice is a little different than your average destination. With no cars and no roads, your options change drastically. For general sightseeing and exploring through the central districts, you can get around by walking pretty comfortably. The layout of the street in Venice is quite a maze though, so dont be surprised if you get lost along the way.
One of the most popular activities while visiting Venice is of course to go on a gondola ride. While a gentle and truly Venetian way of seeing the city, gondolas are a special experience rather than a regular means of transport.
No, to get around Venices waterways you want to make use of the citys vaporettos. These vaporettos not only run along from Venezia Santa Lucia down the Grand Canal, but also out to Venices many islands. Tickets, which also work for public transport in Mestre, start at 7.50 for a single trip ticket, with 24 hour and 48 hour tickets offering much better value. You can buy your tickets in advance here.
If youve driven to Venice, youre going to need to park your rental car for the duration of your visit. You have the choice of parking back on the mainland at Mestre, on the island of Tronchetto, or at Piazzale Roma. The first two are cheaper options but will require some form of public transport to help you get into Venice proper. Piazzale Roma is a square in Venice, at the entrance of the city, so parking is a lot more expensive there.

I wish to thank you for allowing me the moment.
Historic Venice Train Depot
History lovers wont want to miss out on the chance to visit the Historic Venice Train Depot when they are staying in the city.
This quirky piece of local heritage is located on the edge of downtown like the Venice Museum and Archives and much of the other architecture in the city center, it dates back to 1927.
Its no longer a working station but has been preserved as a museum, and volunteers offer free tours of the building. There are old carriages and trains in the yard, and its a great place to learn more about local history.

The Best Areas To Stay In Venice
Theres no city in the world quite like Venice. A former republic built on the water, Venice has been inspiring imitations for centuries there are at least twenty contestants for Venice of the East/South/North/Tropics, and the name immediately conjures up visions of show-stopping architecture and romantic gondola rides along canals. While there is no single best neighborhood to stay in Venice, where you end up staying will define your experience and may mean that you spend considerable time walking and/or taking vaporetti . Venice proper is made up of six sestieri , with several more outlying neighborhoods where you could base yourself. The biggest attractions are concentrated in the San Marco sestiere, followed by Dorsoduro and Cannaregio. Venice is wonderfully walkable, but getting from the northern fringes of Cannaregio to Piazza San Marco can be time-consuming. There are excellent hotels all over the city, though many of the best are concentrated in the most popular sestieri.
Located in the southern part of Venice and separated from San Polo and Dorsoduro by the Grand Canal, San Marco is the oldest and grandest part of the city where youll find the Piazza San Marco surrounded by iconic architecture. Its also the busiest and most touristy, with a vaporetto hub and crowds of visitors day and night, particularly along the waterfront. Away from the Piazza San Marco, the tiny streets are quieter and a joy to explore.
