The Waikoloa Anchialine Pond Reservation Area is located right inside the Waikoloa Beach Resort. This natural attraction can be easily accessed by anyone, and it consists of brackish water lava pools that many tiny sea creatures call home.
In order to access the ocean, you can walk the trail from the roadside parking. The walk is only five minutes long, and you will be able to get great views of the ponds.
The ponds are managed by the University of Hawaii for research and education. You can catch a look at the beautiful ponds while walking along the beach.
Although the ponds might seem like a great place to swim, there is only sharp lava rock, which makes them not very comfortable for doing so.

Where Is The Hilton Waikoloa Village Resort
The Hilton Waikoloa Village Resort is located approximately 30 minutes from the Kona Airport located on the west side of the Big Island. It is one of two hotels on the Big Island of Hawaii in this region.
The resort can feel a bit isolated from the town of Kailua-Kona. So if you want to grab some groceries, drinks, and snacks, I recommend that you grab those on the way to the resort from the airport. Its always nice to avoid paying $4 for a Coke.

Hapuna Beach State Park
Right along the Kohala Coast is the Hapuna Beach State Park, which is one of Hawaiis largest white-sand beaches. You can visit the beach between 7 AM and 8 PM every day.
People especially enjoy visiting the beach for its swimming, bodyboarding, sunbathing, and snorkeling opportunities. If you visit in the early part of the year, you will also be able to see some of the migrating whales.
There are many spots for parking, as well as food vendors, picnic areas, and facilities to make it the perfect spot for families. If you want to escape the heat, be sure to take a dip in the cool ocean water!
This is one of the most exciting state parks on the Big Island!
We Liked The Convenience Of Shopping Places To Eat And Gas
We liked the convenience of shopping, places to eat, and gas station. Our favorite restaurant was the Lava Lava Club, sitting right on the beach, with the live music and the hula dancer with the kind eyes! There are no reservations, so get there at 5 PM to get a table that night. Driving around the complex was easy, and parking was adequate. The gas station has limited hours, though, so pay attention if you are gassing up early or late!The grocery store has groceries at a very high price. I would get groceries in Kailua instead next time. There’s a Safeway there. As far as beaches, Hapuna and Mauna Kea were our favorite easily accessible beaches. Swimming and snorkeling are great at both. Mauna Kea has only 40 parking spots, so get there early to get one and get on that beach! We also went to Makolowena beach, that was a favorite, but the drive in required our 4WD to get to the parking spot, and a long walk. We enjoyed that, but not everyone would. Obviously we drove farther for the Manta Ray snorkel, and the Keylakekua snorkeling trips. Those are both highly recommended!

Waikoloa is a large resort area with a variety of hotels and Condominium complexes. A shopping center with restaurants, stores and a market is available within the complex. The grocery store is well stocked with food, a deli, and souvenirs, however it is expensive. Shop at Costco or another grocery store in Kailua before arriving.
Staying In Volcano Town
Located just outside of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, this area hosts some suitable lodgings for budgets and goals.
Why Should You Stay in Volcano Town?
This thrilling town holds many charming cottages, a few hostels, and hotels surrounded by ferns and lush vegetation. This area makes for an excellent place to set up camp to explore the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park or the exciting spots along the Big Island’s south shoreline. Expect to spend about two full days exploring the park, especially if you’re fortunate enough to find the lava active during your visit.
