Is It Better To Stay In Yellowstone Or Outside
There are pros and cons to staying inside the park and staying in a nearby town. If you stay inside the park, you will have much shorter driving times but accommodations in the park are much more expensive. The accommodations inside the park also have limited amenities and rooms often do not have air conditioning, wifi, or private bathrooms.
If you stay outside the park, you will find accommodations have more amenities like free wifi, swimming pools, and free breakfast. Accommodations outside the park are also less expensive. However, you will have longer driving times going in and out of the park.
Lake Yellowstone Hotel & Cabins
This summer-only property is set inside Yellowstone and offers a welcome departure from the rustic, Old West feel. It dates back to 1891, and the building itself was named a National Historic Landmark. The hotel rooms are set within a restored colonial-style building and include a three-bedroom suite that was once used by President Coolidge. The hotel and cabins are right off Yellowstone Lake, the largest body of water in the park.

Best Choices For Where To Stay At Yellowstone National Park In 2022
One of the biggest decisions when planning a vacation is where to stay. When traveling to Yellowstone it is no different. There are so many options of where to stay at Yellowstone National Park from modern to historic hotels and cabins.
There are also lots of great places to stay just outside the park if you cant find availability inside the park or want the more modern amenities available outside the park. You will find more amenities like free Wi-Fi, free breakfast, swimming pools, and gyms with accommodations outside of the park.
Another big factor that will play into where you are staying is how far in advance you are making your reservations. If you are looking for where to stay when visiting Yellowstone National Park a year from now, you will have a lot more options in the park. Accommodations in the park can fill up to 12 months in advance.
If youre looking for somewhere within the next nine months, you will have to look for a cancellation or stay outside the park. Dont let this discourage you though. We have stayed outside the park in West Yellowstone multiple times and always have a great time.
Staying At The Old Faithful Inn & Is It Worth It
One of the must-see landmarks of Yellowstone is undoubtedly the Old Faithful Inn. Famous for its remarkable log structure dating from 1904, the Old Faithful Inn is the most popular and most iconic lodging facility in Yellowstone National park.
It is considered a must to stay in the OF Inn when visiting Yellowstone. It was, therefore, the first accommodation that we secured for our American road trip. Only after we got our reservation at the Old Faithful Inn, we built the rest of the trip around it.
But is it worth all the hassle of booking a year in advance and adjusting all your travel plans just to be able to stay at the Old Faithful Inn? Yes and no.
First, the Old Faithful has a great location. Staying here for one night , made it easy for us to explore all the geyser basins in the area, including the Old Faithful Geyser itself, the Upper Geyser Basin, and the famous Grand Prismatic Spring.
But for that, you dont have to stay at the OF Inn. If its the location that you are most interested in, then you can also choose for the OF Lodge Cabins or the OF Snow Lodge and Cabins. Both are more affordable options and somewhat easier to secure a reservation for.
Second, the rooms at the OF Inn are quite tired and in need of refurbishment. We had a superior room with a view of Old Faithful geyser through a window.
It was a nice clean room, but the contrast with the brand new and modern rooms at the Canyon Lodge could not have been bigger.

Lake Yellowstone Hotel And Cabins
Without a doubt, the most regal of Yellowstones offerings is the Colonial Revival Hotel, which has been around since the 1890s and was designated a National Historic Landmark in 2015. You will feel like you took a time machine to the Roaring Twenties when you pull up to this yellow-painted, white-column estate.
In addition to its stately vibe, the Lake Yellowstone Hotel has ample access to the titular Lake Yellowstone. There, you can rent boats, participate in boat tours, and embark on fishing and backcountry expeditions.
