Lets start with the main section of the park, Zion Canyon, which can be reached via the scenic SR-9. This is undoubtedly the part of the park most frequented by tourists, also because all the most beautiful and famous trails are here. So if youre doing a tour of the Southwest, youll most likely need to arrange overnight accommodations to visit it.
The Best Hotel Options In Zion
I will start off by saying Zion is not known for their hotels and you will not find a 4 or 5 star hotel in the immediate area. I am a luxury travel advisor so its not the kind of typical hotel I would recommend or send clients but the below options are the best in the area and are all just fine for this type of experience. I did mention Amangiri which is one of the best hotels in the country but it is a little farther out.
Under Canvas– The most unique accommodation found around Zion and also my number one recommendation but you have to be ok with no AC and the glamping experience in luxury tents. * I can get you extra VIP perks when I book your stay here.
Desert Pearl Inn– Located in the heart of Springdale and less than a mile from the Entrance of the Park. Great for families because it can accommodate a family of 5 in one room.
Cable Mountain Lodge– Walking distance to Zion Canyon village, where restaurants and shops are found. This is great for families due to the studios and suites.
Zion Lodge– The only hotel in Zion National Park it self. Located in the heart of Zion Canyon. Its usually booked months in advance during the summer months and one of the most popular.
Staying In Springdale Ut
We loved our stay at the Best Western Plus Zion Canyon Inn & Suites. Despite having the longest name ever, it was a very short distance to the Park entrance. Even without partnering with BW this has been on our radar as the hotel to stay are when visiting Zion National Park. Highlights of staying at the BW Plus Zion Canyon Inn include HUGE rooms , free breakfast each morning, a very nice hot tub and pool area, and fire pits for guest use. Oh yes, and we had a patio for enjoying the sunset.
The location of the hotel was exceptional. Located just outside the main Zion National Park entrance, we were surrounded by the incredible cliffs of Zion Canyon. Also, at the hotel entrance was a Springdale Shuttle stop to take guests to the entrance of the park, so you waste no time if you only have one day in Zion.
Tip: when youre choosing where to stay at Zion National Park, consider the parking options and proximity to shuttle stops. Cars arent allowed in the main Zion Canyon most of the year, so youll be taking the Zion Shuttle at some point, no doubt. Try to be close for ease of entry.
Youll find many other hotels and even a few B& Bs in Springdale, so choose the option thats right for you. There are other national brand hotels in town, so research your options and availability and select accommodations that are right for your budget.

Zion National Park Hotels Springdale
Wondering where to stay near Zion National Park, then Springdale is your nearest option, outside of the park. It is located on the edge of Zion National Park just a few hundred metres from the entrance and has a population of around 600 people.
It was originally settled by the Mormons in 1862 as a farming community though its economy is now based on the tourists visiting the area to see Zion National Park. It is located at an altitude of 1,188 metres above sea level and covers an area of 12km2.
Springdale is a great little town, and is centered around the one road that leads to Zion National Park. Here you will find many hotels, restaurants and souvenir shops. You can also rent bikes here if you are planning on going on a busy holiday and rent clothing for hiking the Narrows.

Zion Lodge is located within the national park and half way down the Zion Scenic Drive, in summer you are able to drive to the lodge but only the shuttles operate, giving you access to explore the park earlier than 6am when the first shuttle operates. The Zion Lodge shuttle stop is also the start of the Emerald Pools hike and close to Angels Landing.
Zion Lodge only has 75 rooms and is booked up far in advance , there is also only 1 restaurant and cafe at this location.

Brewery Stop: Zion Brewery
Located very near the Zion National Park entrance, Zion Brewery is great for lunch, dinner, snacks and beers. They have lots of indoor and outdoor seating, which makes it perfect for getting warm in the off-season and enjoying the view the rest of the year. They offer a great kids menu thats REAL FOOD and the main menu is interesting and perfectly local. We enjoyed burgers and beers and felt right at home.

Where To Stay For Visiting Zion: St George Ut
Another very popular place to stay for visiting Zion National Park is the town of St George.
St George is farther away from Zion and it takes a little over an hour to drive from the to the park entrance.
This makes it less convenient than Springdale but it also means you get accommodation at a fraction of the price.
We stayed in St George and found it pleasant and convenient especially if you are going or coming from Las vega, LA and the West.
Staying Inside Zion National Park
When it comes to the best place to stay in Zion National Park, your choices are going to be pretty limited and it’s going to be quite the race to get those bookings.
Nothing is first come first served so you have to plan quite far in advance.
Zion National Park Lodge
This is a historic lodge that gives you an opportunity to stay inside a National Park, similar to where you can stay in Yosemite and The Majestic Yosemite Hotel.
Mere footsteps away from epic hiking, and the 146,000 acres of cliffs, canyons, plant-life, and animal-life in your backyard, Zion National Park Lodge , is comfortable and spacious but of course the trade off is that you’ll be paying a premium for staying here.
The lodge evokes a strong sense of history and rustic design that comes from the original architecture of Gilbert Stanley Underwood when it was built in the 1920s and then rebuilt again in 1966 before it was fully restored in 1990.
The lodges original rustic design was sacrificed at the time but was restored to its original classic appearance in 1990.

I Recommend You Have:
o Walking Stick: Highly recommended as I would catch myself saying I dont know how I could do this without my stick It will help you through the rapids and tough uneven surface of rocks while in the river.
o Water Boots: You can rent them if you dont have your own. They come with neoprene socks and keep your feet warm and they make it easier to step on rocks. Some people had water shoes or just sneakers but I would highliy recommend renting these from in town for about $25 and it comes with a stick!
o Backpack with a dry pocket or bag inside: You can rent an insert for cheap from any of the stores or buy one on amazon before you go. Make sure to put your camera, food and extra cloths in the bag.
o Layers: Throighout the hike it changes tempatures so at times you may want a long sleeve even when its 100 degress out. I would bring layers and water resistant material is best. Avoid cotton. This is a hike you will get wet on and at times it went up to my neck! Also I recommend bringing a baseball type hat to protect from the sun.
o Water & Snacks: Bring lots of water with you and pack snacks. I had some bars, granola, banana and a half of a turkey wrap. It was perfect for my hike from 10am-5:00pm
o Sunscreen: Make sure to put this on before you start and since youre out there for half or a full day also bring it with you to reapply along with SPF chapstick.

Springdale is packed with hotels so choosing where to stay can seem a bit daunting. Weve tried of few of the Springdale options on previous visits to Zion and make our decision based on location/ease of access to the shuttle route, price and standard of accomadation.

Best Western Plus Zion Canyon Inn & Suites is one of the best-rated lower budget hotels in Springdale. Its a bright and modern hotel 3-star hotel that offers sensational views in all directions. Its location is very good too, within walking distance to Zion Park and lots of restaurants and shops. The shuttle stops right outside as well.
This is a great hotel for families and groups, with large family rooms available. There is a seasonal outdoor pool and hot tub, plus fire pits where you can relax, toast marshmallows and reflect on your day. There is also a fitness center, in case you have any energy left after a days hiking!
Customer service at this hotel is excellent. A varied and generous hot buffet breakfast is served each morning and free tea and coffee is available throughout the day.

Picnicking In Zion National Park
If youre doing Zion on a budget or have certain dietary restrictions, it may be easier or better for your plans to pack in your own lunch than try to work with the limited dining options. Within the town of Springdale, there is actually an organic market, as well as another small marketplace to get basic groceries and lunch fixings. Also, if youve just come from Las Vegas, St George or Hurricane, then youve got access to larger grocery stores. This is good to remember for both picnic meal and snacks.
Note: always pack out whatever you pack in. If youre eating on the trail, DO NOT LITTER! Bring every tiny scrap, including fruit peels and cores, back to be properly disposed of.
Once inside Zion National Park, there are all kinds of great picnic options. In the main Zion Canyon area, there are designated picnic areas at the following shuttle stops:
- Visitor Center picnic area tables and facilities just inside the main park entrance
- Zion Lodge lawn amazing green lawn with sprawling views
- Grotto picnic area get off shuttle at Grotto stop
- Weeping Rock head on the trail away from Weeping Rock for a quiet spot on the Virgin River
- Temple of Siniwava this isnt noted by the Park as an official picnic area but its got great views and seating w/ restrooms
