Miami has a big problem with drugs, gangs, and crime.

While we cant classify it as safe in general, its a fairly safe city for travelers. Of course, there are some areas you should definitely avoid, but these are areas most locals wouldnt visit either.

There are also natural dangers to be aware of. Hurricanes and strong sunshine are two opposite but dangerous forces to keep in mind.

Its a wild world out there. But its pretty damn special too.

Downtown Miami Good Area For Business Travel And Sightseeing

Downtown Miami, as the name suggests, is the most convenient and central part of the city in which to stay. This district is the best choice for first-time visitors, especially if the beach isnt the overriding attraction for your visit.

Downtown Miami contains the huge tower blocks of the citys central business district. But theres so much more to see and do here, and downtown is packed with fascinating museums, galleries, and activities. The Frost Museum of Science is a fascinating place to visit, as are the Miami Art Museum and the Miami science museum. The Perez Art Museum Miami is a fabulous art gallery with an extensive collection of South American art.

While in downtown Miami, you should check whats on at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts, which has an ever-changing and varied itinerary of shows and plays. Another great venue is the Guzman Center for The Performing Arts, with a theater that stages regular plays and operas.

If you want to learn a little more about the place where youre staying, then take a visit to History Miami, which is a museum that tracks the growth and development of the state of Miami from the times of native American arrival until the present.

Other attractions to check out: American Airlines Arena a sports and entertainment multi-purpose venue in a vibrant waterfront, Bayside Marketplace a two-story open-air shopping center, for a family with kids, and Ferré Park a promenade, former Museum Park.

Why is this the best area to stay in Miami:

  • Vizcaya Museum & Gardens
  • Upscale accommodation
  • Great nightlife and food scene

Directly south of downtown Miami lies Coconut Grove, an upscale residential and commercial area filled with boutique shops, eclectic restaurants, and art galleries.

Known locally as The Grove, Coconut Grove was one of the first places of European establishment in the region and remained an independent city until 1925.

Coconut Groves main tourist attraction, the Vizcaya Museum & Gardens, is the former villa and estate of businessman James Deering. Keeping Your Money Safe In Miami

If you go anywhere in the world, the problem thats always going to crop up time and time again is having your money stolen. Thats just how it is. Wherever there are tourists, there are petty thieves too. Annoying, but true.

And in Miami, it may be relatively unlikely, but it could still happen. And having LESS money is going to put a premature end to your trip, which is frustrating. So stop would-be pickpockets in their tracks and use a travel money belt!

And youre going to The Pacsafe Money Belt is our best bet. Its affordable, it looks and acts like a belt, and its sturdy what more could you ask for out of a money belt!

We love it. Thats because it looks just like a belt not some military contraption like some money belts. Its also rugged and affordable!

So when you want to keep your money safe in Miami or anywhere in the world, lets face it the best thing to do would be to simply wear a money belt. Its honestly a no-brainer. Think about it: the best way to stop a pickpocket in their tracks is to have nothing in your pockets, and have your cash stashed in a money belt instead. Youll always have that stash to fall back on if something goes wrong.

If you need a little more room for your passport and other travel valuables, have a look at a full-size money belt that tucks under your clothes instead.

Is Fort Lauderdale Or Miami Better

âï¸? Where to Stay in Miami? Best Neighborhoods! Stay in the best location! Miami Beach? Midtown?

The Bottom Line. Both cities offer the things people love about South Florida: beautiful weather, beaches, great food, and rich culture. But while Miami is more culture-rich and walkable with quality schools, Fort Lauderdale offers a quieter lifestyle, less congestion, and more affordable housing options.

Best/safest Area To Stay In Miami

Was thinking of booking Miami as a surprise 60th birthday for my husband next April. We’ve never been and would like some advise on the best and safest area to stay. We are obviously not clubbers but do like to go out and enjoy a nice meal in the evening and do some touristy stuff during the day.

If you mean Miami Beach vs. Miami then 17th and Collins area. Shelborne Hotel is a good basic start or Hampton Inn if on a budget. Plenty of dining choices on Lincoln Road or Ocean Drive …. just a short walk. Safe is a relative term as it only takes one crazy or stupid person to ruin your day. If walking be mindful of traffic lights & keep your wallet & phone unexposed. The Express 150 transit bus is a nice way to get to/from MIA airport.

We stayed on 17th street which has lincoln road at the end of it, great location near the beach, just a couple of blocks back, plenty in walking distance, bars restaurants Ect. We are 50 ish lol and stayed out til around 1am, the restaurants on lincoln road have outdoor seating and some have music playing, plenty of pwople watching too

Thats great info thank you.

Greetings NJ from Swansea!

Being on or near 17th Street give you access to a great access to a nice section of the beach and easy walking distance to Lincoln Road Mall that is a must walk early in your visit. Tons of fun shopping, outdoor seating restaurants, and of course, people watching.

Is It Safe To Drive In Miami

Where to stay in Miami: Best Areas to Stay in Miami, Florida

It IS safe to drive in Miami.

There are some INCREDIBLE coastal routes to drive along. The Florida Keys Overseas Highway is an otherworldly and amazing road trip to embark on when youre in Miami. Wed definitely recommend it.

Driving in Miami is very common. LOADS of people do it when they visit. And EVERYONE drives.

Plus you can get some pretty good deals on car rental, too.

Yet driving in Miami isnt exactly dreamy. The traffic can be AWFUL and the drivers quite aggressive. Road rage is the norm.

Theres also a portion of the drivers in the city who are pretty aggressive. Expect tailgating, not leaving enough room when they overtake, and generally hogging the road. Can happen.

Apart from that, its safe to drive in Miami. Itll be like driving in most developed places.

But make sure you have your insurance. Like most things in America, it is EXPENSIVE if you dont have it and youre in an accident.
