This is a hotel is the peak of luxury. There is so much on offer: a fitness centre, two swimming pools, a restaurant, bar, and spa! Many of Albuquerques top attractions are close by, but we wouldnt blame you for not wanting to leave the hotel!

Albuquerque is a city full of history and is surrounded by absolutely stunning canyons, mountains, and walking trails. With the Rio Grande flowing through it, youll be close to nature while still being in part of one of the most bustling and exciting metropolitan areas in the US!

Nicknamed The Duke City and Burque, this city was founded in 1706 and is a must-see for anyone staying in New Mexico. The area surrounding Albuquerque is much older than that though, as you will be able to tell from the Petroglyphs which are nearby. These date back from early Native American presence here.

If youre discovering the city for the first time, then we recommend staying in Old Town Albuquerque. Its full of historic sites where you can learn more about the citys past and is full of shops and restaurants. It also offers a large variety of accommodation to suit a variety of travel types.

Taylor Ranch is another great spot to discover Alburquerques history and offers cheaper prices on accommodation and food. This makes it the best option for anyone travelling on a budget.

Best Hotel In Old Town: Econo Lodge Old Town

The hotel offers an indoor heated pool and a free hot breakfast, and each room comes with a TV.

So How Safe Is Albuquerque Really

There are plenty of great things about Albuquerque, but they are overshadowed by the bad.

Theres a lot of poverty, the school system is poorly rated, and wages are low.

This combination of factors leads to a high level of crime, with auto theft and burglary being serious problems throughout the city.

Albuquerque is number 1 in the nation for auto theft, with an incident where even a truck was stolen while the crew was out reporting on crime.

The police are so short-staffed, that it is common practice for drivers to completely ignore all traffic laws because everyone knows that the likelihood of being pulled over is null.

The biggest problem in Albuquerque, however, is the random crime.

It consistently ranks in the top 10 nationwide for various classes of crime, although generally, property crime outranks violent crime in the city.

Albuquerque also has one of the largest interstate traffic interchanges in the Southwest where I-25 and I-40 meet: and, like any other commodity, drugs follow the highway.

The bad neighborhoods are mostly in the southeast and southwest the south valley is the worst for gang activity.

Violent crime is mainly confined to a few small areas, as in most cities where it exists.

Hotel In Safe Area When Passing Thru

We’ll be traveling east to west across I-40 in late September, and Albuquerque looks like our only option geographically for an overnight stay. But reading reviews here and elsewhere for almost all the hotels that I can find, and from some other searches, it doesn’t exactly seem like the safest place.

We really want to stay somewhere where we feel comfortable with the surroundings and won’t worry about our car in the lot overnight either. Where are the nice areas in the vicinity of Albuquerque? Any recommendations for a place to stay?

Generally speaking, I would avoid motels/hotels along Central Ave. through Albuquerque, especially in the eastern half of the city. As is true with most cities, the highways, and Interstates do not pass through or by the better parts of town.

Hopefully, you can pause for a day in Albuquerque, and see our historic, Old Town area which is just three blocks from I-40. Hotels within walking distance of Old Town, and its varied museums nearby, would include the Hotel Albuquerque of Old Town, Best Western Rio Grande Inn, and if you are counting your $’s, the Monterrey Non-Smokers Motel, and an Econolodge, both are on Central Ave, but in a better part of that miles-long street, and recently renovated.

Well, I swear we thought that someone had died in there the previous year. It was dreadful.

This time around, I want to stay closer to Old Town. I’ll look into the options mentioned here. Thanks.
