How To Get Around Safely In Houston

Another key consideration when it comes to Houston safety is how to get around the city. Take all of the same precautions that you would when visiting any big American city: Keep your valuables in your hotel safe, out of sight, or, better yet, at home. The main crimes that travelers to Houston should be concerned about are petty: pickpocketing, purse-snatching, car break-ins, and vehicle thefts.

So be vigilant for opportunistic thieves in crowded tourist areas and on public transit. Dont leave valuables visible in parked cars, invest in a theft-proof purse or backpack, and always stay alert to your surroundings, conveying confidence and not giving in to people who might be trying to distract you. Stay away from the dangerous areas in Houston , and if you do get robbed or mugged, dont resist. Simply hand over your stuffits way less important than your physical safety.

The 10 Most Dangerous Neighborhoods In Houston

President Biden makes post-storm visit to Texas to survey damage, recovery efforts

Houston is the fourth most populated city in the United States, with over 2,000,000 residents. It has an interesting history, and the vibe and culture in Houston are definitely unique compared to other major cities in Texas. Space City has its high points: the great shopping and restaurants, numerous museums, a great zoo, excellent universities, and tons of major sports teams. However, like any city thats very large, Houston has areas that are not just undesirable, but notably unsafe.

Most of the city is not zoned, meaning you can be in a neighborhood full of million dollar homes and go half a mile down the street to see a run-down area thats crime ridden. Drug trafficking, robbery, and murder are some of Houstons biggest crime issues, and its also become one of the largest human trafficking hubs in the US.

Here are 10 areas in Houston that are notorious for being dangerous.

What area of town do you need to be in?

I’ve stayed in Houston by myself and found the Galleria area to be good. Also have stayed in the Medical Center/Rice University area with no problems. Watch out for some of the hotels in the Galleria area because they charge parking.
