Safest Areas To Stay In Sacramento
Hello. I was wondering what area of Sacramento is the safest to stay in? I found lots of nice hotels but am not familiar with the areas. Thank you.
Overall, Sac is a pretty safe city, but like anywhere, some areas are better than others. I like midtown a lot, which is roughly the area from the state capitol to the west to the Business-80 highway to the east. There are a lot of shops and restaurants mixed in with residential areas, so there are pretty much always people around. I don’t like downtown as much, just for the fact that once business hours are over, the place seems to really empty out.
In general the city of Sacramento is quite safe. There are Sheraton Grand, Hyatt Regency and Marriott’s Residence Inn in downtown/midtown . Embassy Suite is next to the river. Holiday Inn right at downtown. Other big ones are kind of scattered which means you must drive.

The crime rate is average for a large city in California, but car thefts are among the highest in the nation. The Hampton Inn West Sacramento is right next to the police academy. I would avoid the hotels up towards Discovery Park, and the Red Lion midtown should be avoided….not for safety reasons but because it’s a lousy hotel in every way.

Quite a lot of visitors to San Francisco assume that the Golden Gate Bridge is close to the rest of the city. Its not. Its way out of the way.
The area around the Golden Gate Bridge is called the Presidio, and its actually a giant nature park that used to be a military base. Its absolutely gorgeous and a wonderful place to go hiking or to watch the sun setting at Lands End.
But dont stay there if your goal is to explore San Francisco. Its quite out of the way and takes a long time to access on transit! Wed only recommend basing yourself here if you want peace, quiet, nature, isolation, and easy access to the
That said, there is one big plus to the Presidio: this is one of the few neighborhoods in San Francisco where its not a major disadvantage to have a car.
- Where to Stay Instead: Honestly, anywhere else on our neighborhood list would be a better choice. If youre after Golden Gate Bridge views, you can find them all over the city if you stay in a high-rise building- but expect to pay more for the privilege.

Many of the tall buildings in the area were built during the early 20th century. The Oakland City Hall, or town hall, was completed in 1914 and at 230 feet , it was the tallest public building on the entire West Coast of the United States.

Los Angeles Geography: A Rough Overview
The city is enormous, which gives you literally hundreds of choices of where to stay, with all sorts of different pockets that all have their own unique characteristics and cultures.
At a super high level, wed divide the city into east and west. And were going to speak in generalities here, so keep in mind that there are exceptions to the statements below. LA is massive, so were going to focus on the part of the city that youre most likely going to want to consider when youre searching for the right place to stay.
On the east side of LA, youll find neighborhoods like Hollywood, Los Feliz, Silver Lake, and Downtown LA . This side of the city feels more concrete jungle-y, particularly Hollywood and Downtown, and is less expensive than its western counterparts .
On the west side of the city, youll find the Pacific Ocean and neighborhoods like Santa Monica, Venice, and Culver City. The feel here is MUCH different, with beachy vibes all around and a more laid-back atmosphere. Its also more residential, and significantly more expensive as you get closer to the beach.

Santa Monica: Accommodations Near Los Angeles On The Coast
In your list of things to see in Los Angeles, you will surely have already included Santa Monica, one of the main destinations on Californias coast, with beautiful white beaches and relatively calm waters, thanks to the Santa Monica Bay, which subdues the great ocean waves.
Again, we are talking about another city adjacent to Los Angeles rather than an area further inland. Of course, Santa Monicas neighborhoods are full of nightclubs and hotels, especially on the waterfront, and can be a great place to stay overnight. You can also drop by the characteristic amusement park on the pier, Santa Monicas landmark. I suggest:
- Oceana Hotel: A high-class hotel in Santa Monica. Some suites have ocean views, but all rooms are equipped with free WiFi, mini-bar, lounge, and every service you can think of, in addition to yoga classes and free bike rentals.
- HI-Santa Monica: The HI-Santa Monica is an ideal solution for those who want to visit Santa Monica, Venice, or Malibu without spending an arm and a leg! In fact, the standard of the services here matches that of fancier hotels.
