One of the main things to remember, whether youre staying in Paris on a budget or looking for some luxury, is to make sure youre based near a metro station.

At just $1.80 a ticket, the metro extends right across the city into the suburbs so theres no issue staying further out if youre looking for something more affordable.

Paris Neighborhoods To Avoid

There arent any no-go zones in Paris and all areas of the city are 100% safe, but in some areas you should take more precautions than in others. I probably wouldnt walk alone at night around Les Halles metro, unless I absolutely had to.

Some areas, such as St. Denis or Boulevard de Clichy, might be unpleasant due to prostitution.

Just like anywhere else in the world, if you look like a total tourist you might get pickpocketed if you dont keep your belongings safe. That said, I feel the need to state the obvious never leave your bags or valuables unattended, and that includes putting your bag on the floor of a restaurant or metro, without attaching it to something or yourself.

However, I can honestly say that after living in Paris and visiting multiple times, Ive never felt threated, pickpocketed or generally unsafe.

French Hotel Star Rating System: What Stars Tell You

8 Best Neighbourhoods to Stay in Paris (+ Hotels Names and ...

Every country has its own star rating system, there is no universal standard. The classic mistake is to think that the number of stars a hotel has corresponds to how good it is. In France this is definitely not the case.

The French system is not subjective and makes no attempt to grade quality, cleanliness or quality of service you will receive.

1-star hotels are economy properties. Double rooms must be at least 9 square metres, not including the bathroom, which my be en-suite or shared. The reception area must be at least 20 square metres.

2-star hotels have the same minimum room size as 1 star hotels, but staff members are required to speak an additional European language and the reception desk must be open at least 10 hours per day. The reception area/lounge must be at least 50 square metres.

3-star hotels in Paris means your room must have a minimum space of 13.5 square metres including a bathroom. Otherwise 3 star hotels are very similar to 2 star hotels. The reception area/lounge must be at least 50 square metres. Staff members are required to speak an additional European language and the reception must be open at least 10 hours per day.

4 or 5-star hotels in Paris means guest rooms are 16 square metres including bathrooms for 4 star hotels and 24-square metres including bathroom for a 5-star hotel. For hotels with more than 30 rooms, the reception desk must be open 24-hrs a day.

Choosing a low-key, independent hotel in Batignolles is an obvious choice if you prefer leafy, canopied streets dotted with shops and trendy apartments over the fanfare of more tourist-friendly neighborhoods.

Yes, walking is one of the best things to do in this village. If you stay in Batignolles, youll find that you end up at Place du Dr Félix Lobligeois daily without fail. This beautiful square recreates the quaintness found in classic French villages.

Enjoy terraced restaurants, inviting bakeries and a serene fountain in a manicured, leafy landscape just beyond the grounds of Sainte-Marie des Batignolles.

This is the place if youd prefer to strike up a conversation at a nightclub instead of dancing the night away!

The Louvre / 1st Arrondissement

Where to Stay in Paris France? Best areas & Neighborhoods ...

Located on the Right Bank of the River Seine this is one of the oldest neighborhoods making it one of the best places to stay in Paris. It is definitely central and conveniently located, but be aware that all that convenience comes at a price. The 1st arrondissement is probably one of the most expensive districts in the city.

That also means that some of the most luxurious hotels in Paris are located in the 1st Arrondissement.

Most people who are visiting for the first time and looking for where to stay in Paris end up booking here because it is so central. But, remember, the Metro is cheap and convenient So if you feel you dont need to be walking distance from all of the major sites, like Notre Dame Cathedral, you can save some money by checking out another neighborhood.

The west end is where youll have the very upscale hotels reaching out to the Place de la Concorde. The center of the 1st Arrondissement has the Louvre, Famous Ponte Neuf, and Jardin des Tuileries while the East reaches out to touch on the Ile de la Cite and the West to the Place de la Concorde.

Best Hotel In Le Marais: Paris France Hotel

Rooms come complete with private bathrooms and modern amenities, like cable channels and free wifi.

Where To Stay With Kids In The 9th Arrondissement

We had an issue with our Airbnb reservation . I spent five hours of our vacation researching hotels and came upon Astotel, a chain of 3* and 4* hotels throughout the city.

Since we are a family of 5, it is difficult to find rooms that accommodate all of us. Thankfully, they had reasonably priced rooms and we found a hotel with a three person room and a two person room for less than $200/room.

We stayed at the Hotel Acadia, and we could not have been happier. The staff was pleasant, the three person room was spacious, the two person room was standard size. Even better, breakfast was included.

This chain of hotels allows you to stop at any of their properties during your stay for a snack or coffee. We definitely made use of this and visited Hotel George and Hotel Astoria for some lovely treats while out exploring. The location was close to the Grands Boulevards Metro stop and we walked about 20 minutes to Sacre Coeur. Its on a quiet side street just off Rue de Montmartre.

Best Neighborhoods In Paris

Where to Stay in Paris – 9 Best Neighborhoods & Areas (2021)

If I were choosing the best neighborhoods in Paris, at the top of my list would be the Marais and St. Germain, followed by the good part of Montmartre.

I think the Marais is the best neighborhood in Paris overall because it has so much to offer its a creative, colorful neighborhood filled with interesting boutiques, beautiful parks, and some of the quirkiest architecture in the city .

The Marais is also home to the best crepe restaurant in Paris and the best cheap meal in Paris: the falafel at LAs du Falafel, which is best eaten as a picnic in the Places des Vosges. When you stay in the Marais, you have easy access to art, shopping, and several metro lines that can take you all over the city.

I think St. Germain is another one of the best places to stay in Paris because it has retained its Left Bank artistic culture over time. This is the neighborhood where Sartre, Hemingway, and Dali used to hang out amongst the Lost Generation.

You can sit in one of those famous St. Germain cafes by day, or check out the galleries and bookstores that line the streets. When you stay in St. Germain, you have easy access to the Jardin Luxembourg, the Musée dOrsay, Notre-Dame, and plenty of other metro lines.

Staying in Montmartre gives you easy access to the Sacre-Coeur , the cheesy but wonderful Moulin Rouge! show, and plenty of beautiful cafes and boutiques.
