Best Paris Neighborhood For First Time Visitors Who Want To Be Close To Top Attractions: Louvre/palais Royal/tuileries 1st Arrondissement
Are you planning your first trip to Paris and want to experience as many of the city’s most famous attractions as possible?
Staying in the lively 1st arrondissement neighborhood around the Louvre Museum and Tuileries Garden – sometimes called “Royal Paris” because French kings and queens once called this area “home” – puts you close to many of Paris’s most famous sightseeing destinations. And, if you’re not sure about your ability to speak well in French, you’ll appreciate how much English and other world languages are spoken in this district.
This is where you’ll find the Mona Lisa at the Louvre, spectacular stained glass at Sainte Chapelle, the almost-hidden Palais Royal Garden, designer boutiques along Rue Saint Honoré, sparkling jewelers around Place Vendôme, and one of the city’s elegant 19th century arcades, Galerie Vero Dodat. Tuileries Garden offers gorgeous places to sit and relax, a fun carnival in the summer, and the city’s liveliest Christmas Market in November and December. You can stroll along the Seine River or savor an evening dinner cruise, sip the rich hot chocolate at Angelina’s, and explore jazz clubs along Rue des Lombards.
You’ll see wonderful places to eat on just about every street and avenue in this neighborhood – everything from casual bakery/cafes to romantic bistros to Michelin-starred restaurants to the city’s best Asian cuisine along Rue Sainte Anne.

Deciding where to stay in Paris can define your experience in the City of Lights. Theres no need to feel intimidated by the thought of finding a good place to stay in Paris on any budget. Paris belongs every bit as much to adventure-seeking backpackers as it does to lavish aristocrats.
Cut by the banks of the River Seine, Paris offers 20 separate arrondissements full of world-class attractions and treasures from history to discover!
More than 38 million visitors come to Paris to chase romance and adventure at its many museums, parks, restaurants, cathedrals, shrines and historic buildings every year. Luckily for visitors, the Paris Métro transit system makes it easy to skip around to beautiful spots all over the city regardless of where you book your stay.
However, its still beneficial to choose a place to stay in Paris that offers access to the neighborhoods and attractions that will satisfy your wandering heart. For some, that means relaxing in cafés that inspired Hemingway or gave birth to existentialists like Simone de Beauvoir and Jean-Paul Sartre.
Others who arrive in Paris prefer to have their breath taken away by towering, gilded cathedrals with sacred doors that empty out to thin, cobbled passageways where artists tell the citys tales in real time with their easels and brushes.

The 1st Arrondissement Is One Of The Best Places To Stay In Paris In The City Center
Staying in the 1st arrondissement was long on our list of the best places to stay in Paris and we must say, it did not disappoint. The 1st arrondissement is the true city center of Paris! It is the 1st arrondissement both in name and location and all other districts stem from this area. The 1st arrondissement is also home to the famous Louvre Museum as well as the Palais Royal and various gardens.
There is so much to see and do when you choose the 1st arrondissement when searching for where to stay in Paris. Some of our favorite things to do when staying in the 1st arrondissement are to walk around the Palais Royal during sunrise and to walk around the Louvre Pyramid at night. If you choose this as your place to stay in Paris, see if you can stay up later than the lights! Yes, the lights in Paris actually shut off, usually around 1am, and the Louvre complex will go dark. It is eery and cool!
Upsides: True city center of Paris. Very well connected by Metros and busses. Just steps away from the Seine River. Tons of restaurants and cafes nearby. Walking distance to other sites in other districts. Many shopping options.
Downsides: More expensive than other districts as it is small. Some may consider it too touristy. Smaller district means fewer options for hotels.

The Latin Quarter Paris
Moving over to the Left Bank, the Latin Quarter is the best area to stay in Paris if you love being centrally located and in the heart of bohemian Paris.
This area is packed with restaurants, bars, cafes, and shops, and is ideally situated next to the islands in the Seine.
The Latin Quarter is home to everything from the famous Shakespeare & Company bookshop in Paris to the Pantheon.
Its also home to the Sorbonne University, making it one of the best places to stay in Paris for students and 20-somethings.
My favorite place to stay in the Latin Quarter is the Melia Paris Notre Dame. Its in an elegant 19th-century building in a great location near the river.
Ive stayed here and sent my travel planning clients here, and weve all been happy with it. You can book a room here.

The neighborhood’s largest park, Jardin du Luxembourg , may be best known by tourists for its tranquil Medici Fountain, flowering plants and trees, the many statues of queens and female saints installed by its 17th century creator, Marie de’ Medici, and best of all, the hundreds of green-painted steel chairs for relaxing in the sun or shade.

Snack bars and outdoor cafes make it easy to spend a whole day here.
For kids and teens , a favorite Saint Germain recreational spot is Parc Rives, the riverside park along the Seine where you’ll find games and sports, a climbing wall, wide expanses ideal for skateboards, running paths, seasonal snack bars and cafes, plenty of places to sit and relax, and even a floating gallery called Fluctuart dedicated to showcasing street art.
