What Neighborhood To Stay In Porto

Why Stay In Cedofeita

PORTO TRAVEL GUIDE – Porto Travel in 8 minutes Guide – Portugal

Cedofeita is the trendiest neighborhood in Porto as it has an art district at Rua Miguel Bombarda, full of interesting art galleries and concept stores . For me it is also the most romantic neighborhood to stay in Porto.Besides the art district, Cedofeita has some lovely brunch cafes like O Diplomata and Rosa et Al. It also has the cutest shopping mall, with concept stores and an organic market on Saturdays, called Centro Comercial Bombarda.Cedofeita is particularly interesting because it is right next to Baixa, where most monuments are located , but far away enough for a quiet time in Porto. At this neighborhood in Porto you can go for a romantic walk at the Crystal Palace Gardens, located in front of Museu Nacional Soares dos Reis, one of the best museums in Porto. If you want to experience the Portuguese culture, you can enjoy a Fado show at Casa da Guitarra.Cedofeita is the best neighborhood in Porto for family with kids, travellers who want to be close to the main city attractions but on a quieter location and for couples on a romantic getaway in Porto.

What is the catch?

There is none, to be honest! It is a great neighborhood with an amazing vibe. I usually avoid it on Fridays and Saturdays night because some of its streets, like Travessa de Cedofeita, get impossibly loud. But that is an exception, not the general situation in this area.

Avenida Da Boavista Where To Stay In Porto For Shopping

Where To Stay In Porto

Running between the Military Hospital and Castelo do Queijo, the Boavista Avenue is, at 5.5 km long, the longest street in Porto. Originally laid down in the mid-1800s and completed in 1917, the avenue begins on the Rue da Boavista, and ends at the seafront at Castelo do Queijo.

Originally a residential area for rich merchants and the nobility, the street slowly became the cultural and economic centre of Porto. Still very much an affluent area of town, Boavista Avenue today caters for everyone.

Now a mix of sumptuous 1850s town houses, many converted for commercial use, modern office blocks, hi-end hotels, restaurants, bars, shopping malls, and entertainment venues stretch the length of this wide avenue.

Luxurious shopping centres offer designer labels such as Dolce & Gabbana, Hugo Boss, and Versace, exclusive jewellery outlets, and footwear stores. With plenty of bars, cafes, and coffee shops dotted along its length, youre never short of somewhere to stop-off for some light refreshment.

If youre scoping out restaurants for that evening dinner, look up the Bull and Bear on the avenue, they specialise in marinated sea bass. Or if you prefer red meat, look up the Capa Negra II for traditional Portuguese cuisine.

One of the must visits if youre staying on the Avenida da Boavista , is the Casa da Música . A contemporary building inaugurated in 2005, it still causes much discussion amongst the locals, due to its innovative construction.

# 1 Ribeira The Most Popular Area To Stay In Porto

Located next to the D. Luiz bridge, Ribeira is the best-known neighborhood in Porto and is a tourist attraction by itself. Whether or not you sleep there, Ribeira is a must for anyone visiting Porto due to its streets, alleys, colorful houses, and of course the beautiful riverside area.

In addition to the D. Luiz bridge, in Ribeira, youll also find the Stock Exchange Palace, the Infantes house, and the Church of S. Francisco. Together with the Baixa area that we will talk about next, Ribeira is ideal for those traveling to the port for the first time, for those with little time, and for young travelers. On the other hand, it is a bad idea to stay in this area of Porto if you are traveling by car. Its a nightmare to drive and even worse to park.

Thus, Ribeira is possibly the most touristic area of Porto with lots of bars and restaurants where you can enjoy both typical Portuguese and international food. As it is one of the most lively areas of the city, it can also be noisy at night, which is a disadvantage for those who are light sleepers.

Porto Ribeira best accommodations

The best hotel in Ribeira is the Pestana Vintage Porto Hotel & amp World Heritage Site. A 5-star hotel, located in a 16th-century building in Praça da Ribeira facing the Douro and with an unforgettable view ! All of this comes with a price, but if its within your reach its well worth it!

In this article, downtown Porto corresponds to a large part of the historic center, including the entire area of Sé, Batalha, Aliados, and even Clérigos. It is thus a relatively large area and also extremely touristy as it is where most of Portos biggest attractions are located.

As in Ribeira, downtown is the best place to stay in Porto for those who have limited time in Porto, for young people, and for those who want to stay in the center of the action, using as little transport as is possible. From there you can walk almost everywhere.

Located in the beautiful Palácio das Cardosas, the intercontinental Porto is our favorite downtown Porto hotel. In addition to being a luxury hotel, it is the opportunity to stay in one of the most emblematic buildings in the city, located in the most central point of the city. See prices here.

If you want a smaller, less monumental hotel, we suggest the Porto AS 1829. It is not as imposing as the intercontinental, but it is a charming hotel located in a completely renovated historic building that offers excellent comfort and service. Choose the best rooms here.

Things To Do In Porto: A 2

Porto is the second-largest city in Portugal with a four-time consecutive win for Best European Destination and in 2020 won Worlds Leading City Break. The city of Porto is magical. If you are looking for the best things to do in Porto, then weve got you covered with this ultimate 48 hour Porto travel guide with impressive things to see, eat, and lots of tips.

But before we get into the good stuff, it is essential to know that the Portuguese of the North are typically nicer and warmer than Lisbon natives. This is a generalization, but its a stereotype understood around the entire country. And be warned, Portistas can cuss more than characters in The Wolf on Wall Street film, so please understand that this is just a cultural trait.

So, what is all the hype? Is it worth taking a flight to this grand city and live like the local Tripeiros while drinking vinho do Porto?

Absolutely.
