Most of the districts in Venice Italy are found along the Canal Grande, and they offer a fantastic view of the river. 1. Take a walk along the Zattere, a beautiful promenade along the southern shore of Venice. It was built way back in 1519 and first used as a landing dock. Thats how it got its name, Zattere is Italian for raft.

Santa Croce Not As Spectacular But Very Convenient
Indeed, its not the most spectacular area of Venice, however, its so convenient.
In which respect?
First, its so close to the Central Railway Station. So you can check-in and leave your bags at your hotel and get out to explore the city.
Second, the price of accommodation is usually lower than anywhere else in Venice. The main reason is the fair distance to San Marco Square
Third, so close to Dorsoduro, great area for dinner, lunch and the nightlife.
The drawback is that you will be far from most of the things to see and do in Venice. As a first time visitor, I would probably avoid it, unless you are after a budget accommodation.
If you plan to stay just 2 nights in Venice, I would personally not consider this area. It becomes an option if you have a very early train and you are looking for accommodation close to the train station.
The Dorso Duro Apartment is absolutely a great budget accommodation in Santa Croce, almost next to the station. A great choice if you need to save some money on the hotel.
It can also be quite convenient if you plan to drive to Venice and park your car at the end of the Liberty Bridge. There are a few garages here. Remember to book your spot in advance, especially in high season.
Considering the price of parking the car, besides the hassle, I would not suggest driving up to the city.

Venice is divided into six main districts, each with its own charms and reasons to stay there. The best accommodation option simply depends on the type of experience you would like to have during your travels.
San Marco is a great place to stay on your first visit, as you can find most of Venices main attractions in this district.

Staying In Dorsoduro Best Restaurants And Close To The Centre
As I previously said, I love Dorsoduro and in my opinion, it is the best place to stay in Venice .
The reason I love this area is mostly due to the local feeling I get in restaurants and cafes. Of course, there are tourists also here but there is a good mix with people actually living here.
This means you get the best value for money wherever you go. Besides that, its more of a real experience. I remember one night having a drink more than usual and ending my night in a nightclub, in the underground behind a hidden door along a canal. A place surely not on TripAdvisor.
Here you find more of a young crowd with probably the best nightlife around Venice, although not really noisy.
You can also come easily to Dorsoduro for dinner and to spend the night from any other area. Absolutely a must. You will see the difference.
Campo Margherita tends to be the centre, a big square where it is not unusual to see kids playing football. On a sunny morning, all the cafes in the morning will be full of customers drinking cappuccino and eating a cornetto . Real Italian feeling.
The Suite 735 Bed & Breakfast is one of my favourite accommodations in Venice, located right in the heart of Dorsoduro. The Bridge of Sighs The famous bridge is supposedly the last place where convicts heading to Venices jail have the sweet view of freedom, therefore sigh as they cross it.

Getting to San Marco
- Vaporetto From the international airport Marco Polo Airport you can take a vaporetto directly to the stop at San Marco. These are run by Alilaguna vaporetto company, and takes about 70 minutes, and costs 14 per person.
- Bus You could also take the airport bus to Piazzale Roma, which takes 20 minutes and costs 6. Youd then also need to take a vaporetto from there to Saint Marks Square, which will take about 40 minutes more , and this costs 7.50 one way
