What’s The Best Area To Stay In San Francisco

Union Square: Access To The Most Hotels

Best things to do in SAN FRANCISCO

The unusual thing about Union Square is that it’s the only recommended neighborhood on the list that offers little to no activities within the immediate area. So, while readers might be wondering why on earth this should even be considered when visiting San Francisco, this is why: the array of hotels available is unbeatable.

While there may not be anything of great significance in Union Square, it certainly has more lodging accommodations than any other in the city, which practically makes it a must when it comes to places to considering booking.

Where To Stay First Time Visitors To Sf

My wife and I will be visiting S.F. for one week at the beginning of Sept. It will be purely a holiday and sightseeing visit, no business to do, or family to see.

Id be grateful if anyone could advise where best to locate ourselves.

Im sure that this is question has been asked many times before, and I apologise for asking it again, but as weve never been to the USA before, the amount of choices can be bewildering! Airbnb, for example, lists over 80 neighbourhoods to choose from in SF.

We are both in our late 50s, but reasonably fit and active. Were arent adventure tourists, preferring the cultural attractions such as galleries, theatres, museums and historical sights. We enjoy eating out and shopping.

We have no plans to rent a car, so wed like to be as central as possible to the main attractions. Easy access to taxis, ubers and public transport is important.

Given the poor AUD-USD exchange rate that were now faced with, were thinking of getting an Airbnb, rather than an hotel This may mean that we stay in the suburbs somewhere rather in the centre of the city.

Thanks in anticipation for any advice!

At Union Square, you will be in walking distance of many attractions and close to affordable public transit which can take you to outlying areas, such as Golden Gate Park and DeYoung Museum.

Please use our terminology. In San Francisco we have neighborhoods and outside the city you will find suburbs there is not 80 neighborhoods in San Francisco.

Have a good trip.

Where To Stay In San Francisco On A Budget

Although San Francisco is notoriously expensive, it is still possible to visit on a budget. Several hotels offer a reasonable price, as well as a convenient location for tourists. In the downtown area, the centrally located Post Hotel is best for travelers who prefer to sightsee without a car. From this spot, visitors can walk to the art galleries, boutiques, and department stores of Union Square. A superb selection of restaurants, as well as the entertainment venues of the Theater District are also nearby.

Outside of downtown are other budget options. Well situated near the Presidio recreational area and park, the Travelodge by Wyndham Presidio San Francisco provides affordable lodging that includes breakfast and in-room refrigerators. Since this hotel is best for travelers with a car, the free on-site parking is helpful. San Francisco’s largest green space, Golden Gate Park, is just a short drive from the hotel.

For a relaxing hotel stay in the district, the Super 8 by Wyndham San Francisco on Lombard Street is several blocks away from the street’s famous winding section and close to the top tourist attractions of Fisherman’s Wharf and Ghirardelli Square. This budget-friendly motor lodge has a boutique feel and comfortable rooms featuring plush bedding. The hotel has limited parking. Accommodations include a complimentary breakfast.

Best Hotels Near San Francisco International Airport

San Francisco International Airport also called the gateway to the Pacific is the main airport and the place where youll land when you arrive in the city. The airport is located less than 13 miles from the city center, which means around 25 to 30 minutes by car.

In case you have a very early or very late flight, booking a room close to the airport might be a very wise idea that will save you a lot of time and probably some sleep as well. If you want to do so, I have selected 3 great hotels near the airport for you :

  • Hyatt Regency San Francisco AirportIf you want a nice mid-range hotel instead, this 4-star property might be the right choice for you! One of the best things about staying here is that youll be able to benefit from the 24-hour shuttle services to the airport so great!
  • Crashpadz SF/DC In case youre on a budget instead, heres a perfectly fine option for you as well. This nice hostel has mixed dormitory rooms for some very good prices and its only 11 km from the airport.

Best Area To Stay In Sf With Family

We are looking at coming to SF for 3 days and want to do all the usual touristy stuff. I thought Union Square would be a good base but on a lot of the reviews people are saying “make sure you turn this way out of the hotel and not the other way as that will take you to a bad area.” I know in any city you have to keep your whits about you but I cant be bothered staying anywhere that is a bit rough as the kids may want to pop out without me and I’d like to fell safe.

So where would you good people recommend? Shall we stay in the heart of the city or would we be better in the bay view or ocean view areas?

What Area To Stay In San Francisco

Hello, my BF and I are staying in San Francisco for 2 nights in October. I booked a really cute hotel in Nob Hill for $600 for 2 nights. That’s really high in my price range but I love historical buildings so I thought it was worth it.

Anyways, there’s free cancellation up until a certain point, we want to do most of the touristy type stuff. Is Nob Hill a good place to stay for all that? I saw recommendations to stay at Union Square as well.

What do you think would be the best area to stay in to access a lot of different areas of San Fran? Should I keep the one I booked or look elsewhere?

We will have a rental car, but mostly just to get to the airport. I doubt we want to drive around SF with all the hills and traffic, so close to public transport would be ideal. If it was a historical building that would be cool, but I would also be willing to stay in a lower priced regular hotel if I can just see the historical houses instead.

Any advice?

The Best Places To Stay In Sfs Financial District

The Financial District has a cluster of four-star chain hotels catering to the business traveler, but the location is also good for the leisure traveler because of its central location. There are some great bars and restaurants in the neighborhood, especially at the Ferry Building, and its easy to access public transportation to anywhere in the city.

  • Pros: Central location and access to public transportation.
  • Cons: The hotels are typically pricier and many dont offer much flair. Quieter at night.

ONE DAY IN SAN FRANCISCO: Local’s Guide to the Best Food, Things to Do, and Areas to Visit

San Francisco isnt defined by its downtown core, even though thats where most of the hotels have camped out. AirBnB was founded in SF and its listings nearly double the available lodging options, with whole homes and rooms to rent all over the city. Most of the following neighborhoods may have the odd B& B or sketchy hotel, but trust me, they are much better served using AirBnB.

    • Pros: Live like a local by getting advice from your local host. Save money on eating out and laundry. Good for families and larger groups.
    • Cons: Most neighborhoods are further out in the city and getting downtown will require slower buses. For the couple who wants the privacy of a whole home, it can sometimes be cheaper to snag a great hotel deal rather than do AirBnB.

In addition to the normal rooms and apartments, there are some really amazing AirBnBs in San Francisco that provide truly unique experiences. Like this artist loft in the mission which promises an immersive experience. The host is an artist himself and he offers the space as a place for creative exploration.

The 20 Best Things to Do in San Francisco

By Christy Woodrow, Last Modified: February 15, 2022

Were sharing our insider tips on where to stay in San Francisco and weve gathered our top picks for the best hotels in each neighborhood!

A Northern Californian city bursting with culture at every turn, San Francisco is home to some of the most iconic landmarks, activities, and neighborhoods in the country. Yet, while San Francisco fits itself into just 46 square miles, theres so much to do and see in the city that picking just one neighborhood to base yourself in is a big decision.

Where To Stay In North Beach And The Hills

Inland North Beach was named when the area sat along San Franciscos original northern waterfront. It is best known as the home of the citys Italian community. In recent years its original blue-collar character has been largely eroded by gentrification. Nevertheless, it retains an easy, worn-in feeling, and its sloping residential streets and vibrant main drags are ideal for aimless wandering.

Primarily residential Telegraph Hill and Russian Hill, meanwhile, boast beautiful old homes. Hidden gardens can be found tucked away down pathways off steep hillside streets. To the south of Russian Hill lies pristine, yet historically snooty Nob Hill.

For a B& B style hotel: Washington Square Inn

Overlooking Washington Square, this hotel has large and airy rooms with a European flavour. Some boast bay windows.

    For big budgets: The Fairmont

The most famous of Nob Hills landmark hotels, this showy palace offers fantastic views despite being relatively low-rise for the neighbourhood.

Where To Stay In San Francisco With A Family

Deciding where to stay in San Francisco with kids can be challenging. Urban congestion abounds, and dicey neighborhoods in the downtown are right next to the touristy areas. To alleviate these problems, it’s best to stay at Fisherman’s Wharf or in the because these areas are cleaner, safer, and easier to get around by car. Parking is more plentiful and less expensive here than downtown. The hotels in this area also offer more spacious accommodations and suites that are ideal for families.

In the ideal location for families with kids, the Hyatt Centric Fisherman’s Wharf is just steps away from the fish and chips shacks of Fisherman’s Wharf. A few blocks farther is Ghirardelli Square and Aquatic Park overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge. Several blocks in the other direction is Pier 39, with many attractions for children: the Aquarium of the Bay museum, sea lions, street performers, and an old-fashioned carousel. Kids will also love the Hyatt’s heated swimming pool, and parents will enjoy the hotel’s casual restaurant that serves California cuisine prepared from local ingredients and sustainable seafood.

Another excellent choice at Fisherman’s Wharf is the Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites, right on the waterfront and two blocks from the cable car stop at Hyde and Beach streets. The hotel has many suites that are roomy enough for large families.

The hotel’s spa is an urban oasis, with its infinity pool, saunas, steam rooms, and pampering treatments.
