The Grandaddy Of Phoenix Hospitality

The granddaddy of Phoenix hospitality is the Hotel San Carlos, a stately brick building with a retro, vertical sign running down one of its corners. Phoenicians are quick to demolish any building older than a classic Camaro, so itâs almost a miracle that the San Carlos continues to stand on such valuable property.

The building would look perfectly comfortable in midtown Manhattan, yet here it is, a Phoenix hotel in continuous operation since 1928. Like most old hotels, the San Carlos has smallish rooms and the scent of an attic, but itâs rare to find a place in the Valley of the Sun with such well-earned charm, and history buffs will rejoice at so many antique fixtures. Fun fact: The San Carlos was one of the first buildings in the entire state to install air conditioning before that, vacationers spent summer nights sprawled out on hotel roofs or yards.

The hotel is surrounded by great dining and nightlife options, including the traditional Seamus McCaffrey Irish pub, the wildly popular Cornish Pasty, and the super-hip Valley Bar. The hotel also places you about a block from Civic Space Park and the downtown campus of Arizona State University, which makes the San Carlos a natural crash-pad for prospective students and their families.

Our stay was excellent! Clean room, comfortable clean bed and good breakfast. Our stay was accommodated after arriving in town and realizing the hotel we originally booked looked like a prison yard complete with what would be best described as drug addicts posted outside. Thank you to all the staff! ð

Check in was super fast even though I arrived really late. The interior and exterior of hotel was well kept. Breakfast area was super clean and always stocked. Our room was clean but had an awful odor due to carpet cleaning that had been done within a few days of our stay, which I don’t think was completely dry. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to get another room because the hotel was completely sold out. The hotel is not in a good location but you couldn’t tell once you went in. Just two mins from the sports complex we played at.

The city of Phoenix is great more I can say for Hampton Inn that, unfortunately they have no clue about the light rail or any other transportation. Very sad to say go home was only cleaned once in four days and that with appointment for that kind of money it should have been cleaned every day.Besides when I made the reservation I was quoted $580 For for 3night from booking.com when we checked out we had to pay $100 more I would like to know why. I was told that the price was guaranteed from booking.com very disappointing thanks Teresa
