The Land of Fire and Ice sure is filled with wonders that far surpass the word nice. Iceland is brimming with natural wonders, from geothermal pools to glaciers, to waterfalls that are sure to take even the most humdrum of travellers breaths away.

While staying in Reykjavik is perfect, especially for budget travellers, there are so many other beautiful spots in Iceland waiting for you to explore! From the adventures that await you in Snaefellsbaer, to the charming 1920s schoolhouse Héradsskolinn Guesthouse that is ready to welcome you in Laugarvatn, there are so many beautiful places to go and wondrous things to do in Iceland!

Hotel Kea By Keahotels

Hotel Kea is conveniently located right in the center of town and directly on a pedestrian street. It is one of the 4 star Akureyri hotels that has a elegant decor with a color palette of mostly black, white, and gray.

The guest rooms are spacious and offer in-room mini bars. Breakfast is included daily and there is an on-site restaurant that specializes in Icelandic cuisine.

Akureyri Airport is only about 1 mile from the hotel. Akureyris Botanical Gardens and Akureyri Church are just a 5 minute walk away and make for a perfect afternoon activity.

Where To Stay In Between Reykjavik And Akureyri

My family and I are looking for a good location to stay overnight in between Reykjavik and Akureyri.

We plan to leave Reykjavik in the early morning and spend the day driving the golden circle, the next day we plan to drive to Akureyri, could anyone recommend a location approximately half way between the 2 for an overnight stay?

We have considered Stykkisholmur, but we think that may make for too much of a diversion .

Any recommendations or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Best Things To Do In Akureyri: Explore Downtown Akureyri

Akureyri is very walkable, and you should be able to explore the whole place in a day . We walked around and admired the colorful buildings, the street art, and the statues. Theres a pair of iconic troll statues in the middle of town that you wont be able to miss.

Stop for a coffee at a local cafe or enjoy your beverage outside on a bench. Watch locals and tourists alike roam about. The city isnt huge by any means, so you can easily walk around town and down by the harbor in an afternoon.

Its easy to be charmed by Akureyri. This tiny city is filled with brightly painted wooden houses, cosy bars and sleepy streets leading down to the striking Eyjafjord. Even the traffic lights are cute, with stop lights in the shape of red hearts that glow at each junction.

With a population of only 18,000, its remarkably calm in comparison to Reykjavik, where the relentless stream of tourists can feel overwhelming. This year Super Break launched the first direct charter flights from the UK, which means its easier than ever to reach Icelands second city.
