What To Do In The Hamptons

Not all of the Hamptons storied beaches are open to non-residents. Coopers Beach in Southampton Village, Foster Memorial Beach in Sag Harbor, Main Beach in East Hampton, Hither Hills State Park and Kirk Park in Montauk, Flying Point Beach in Watermill, Sagg Main Beach in Sagaponack, Mecox Beach in Bridgehampton, and Atlantic Avenue Beach in Amagansett all have paid parking lots for visitors, although some of these lots are only open weekdays. While parking is restricted, access to the actual beach is not, so consider arriving by taxi or bike.

The Hamptons has always been popular among artists, both nascent and established. For a taste of the art scene, visit the Parrish Art Museum, which is currently exhibiting Affinities for Abstraction: Women Artists on Eastern Long Island, 1950-2020. The museum is open Thursday through Monday. The Pollock-Krasner House and Study Center, in the Springs neighborhood of East Hampton, is a National Historic Landmark, built in 1879. The space once belonged to the painters Jackson Pollock and Lee Krasner, and visitors can tour their living quarters and painting studio. Admissions are by reservation only, Thursday through Sunday.

Amagansett Is A Sight For Sore Eyes

The Reform Club is a quaint property located in Amagansett welcoming guests in seven unique suites , three cottages, and one drool-worthy private home. On our first night, we were greeted by the generous staff, who kept us well fed and comfortable the entire weekend.

Our sweet little two-story nest had a wood-burning fireplace on each floor, a king-size bed, and a marble bathroom bigger than most apartments in New York City. Were talking about a spa-style shower area equipped with two showerheads, a claw-foot tub, and LOccitane bath amenities.Ill abandon decorum to say that we fully lost our shit at this shower palace.

They treated us to cookies, wine, and a crackling firethe perfect start to an evening. Our dinner was catered by the Main Street Tavern. We highly recommend gorging on the short rib empanadas, the fish tacos, and the Tavern burger. At the end of our cocktails , we experienced what medical professionals refer to as the warm fuzzies.

The Hamptonsfrom Westhampton to Montaukis a stretch of quietly luxurious white-sand beaches lined with as many historic shingle-style bungalows as ultra-modern mansions.

Though the collection of impressive real estate tends to book up fast, there are plenty of rooms, suites, and private cottages still available for those looking to make a sweet escape from the sometimes punishing heat of the city. There are even new lodgings springing up, like The Roundtree, Amagansett, a quaint hotel boasting 15 rooms and suites in a 100-year-old former barn and five standalone cottages. For Families: Sag Harbor

The most popular of the bayfront towns, Sag Harbor has a wealth of year-round residents who set the tone and pace of village life, so even the daytrippers and summer residents cant disrupt it. Visitors choose Sag as much for this distinct personality as the beautiful bay views, busy marina and standout seafood restaurants. Along Main Street, its all mom-and-pop shops selling novelty nautical wares and beach essentials, but Harbor Books is the exception, with a well-edited mix of new releases and classics, a tea bar, and kids section a boon for parents on a rainy day. But when the suns out, families make for Havens Beach, a slim patch of sand compared with the ocean-facing beaches, but with calm bay waters and even a small playground thats perfect for young kids.

For cocktails with a view, Springs’ Bostwick’s on the Harbor delivers an unobstructed sunset every evening, along with a comprehensive raw bar. You may already know about the superlative sushi at Sag Harbor’s 27-year-old Sen, but the restaurant also has the Hamptons’ most compelling ramen, a relative secret. The double-pork version, made with a roasted bone broth and served with pickled ginger, bamboo shoots, soft egg, and braised pork belly, has no equal on the East End. A few miles down the road, David Loewenberg’s restaurant, The Bell & Anchor, offers some of the area’s most reliable and affordable cuisine, with three-course prix fixe menus beginning at $34 on weekdays.
