About Antigua & Barbuda
The islands of Antigua & Barbuda have always been the right place. In 1784 Admiral Horatio Nelson established Great Britains Caribbean base on the island due in part to its virtually impenetrable coral reef and trade winds. Over 200 years later, Antigua & Barbuda is still known for those magnificent trade winds, which aid in the popularity of the annual event Antigua Sailing Week. Antigua & Barbuda is also still well known for its nearly flawless coral reef, which is populated with colorful tropical fish and the perfect place for snorkeling and diving. The rugged coastline is ideal for hiking. The 365 beaches, many hidden, are perfect for romantic getaways. Antigua & Barbuda have always had it all.
Antigua & Barbuda is located in the Eastern Caribbean, south of Saint Martin/Sint Maarten and Saint Kitts. At 17 degrees north from the equator, the climate is always hot and beach-worthy. The Best Time To Visit Antigua
Traditionally, the most popular time to visit is December to April the dry season, when you should expect nothing but bright blue skies and endless sun . We visited in May, and the weather was pleasantly hot each day with only a handful of showers and the odd cloudy day.
It is generally advised to avoid travel between August and October when there is a high risk of hurricanes. Anyone who is aware of what happened in the Caribbean late 2017 will be aware that hurricanes in this part of the world are not to be taken lightly.
How Much Spending Money Will I Need For Antigua
Honestly, Antigua is not cheap. I would say going out to eat here every day is quite similar to going out to eat in London every day. Cocktails are around £8-10 and the main meals around £15. If you want to cut costs I would recommend cooking some meals and if you want to drink alcohol then opt for the local beer Carib.
In terms of boat trips/ excursions, you are looking at roughly £100-£150 per trip. After calculating all my spending , I realised what I had spent came to the same amount as an all-inclusive holiday. And remember, most all-inclusives are just cover flights, accommodation, food and drink and do not include car rentals or excursions.
I would highly recommend not going down the all-inclusive route. This way you will be encouraged to visit more of the island and try out some of the local restaurants. However, this is obviously dependant on what you would like to get out of your holiday. If you want pure relaxation a chill for 2 weeks then an all-inclusive could be the answer.
