From historical landmarks, shopping, bars and restaurants to pristine beaches and diving spots, St. Johns is perfect for first time travelers to the island. It is also great if you are looking for an active nightlife and luxury accommodation.
When traveling with young children the west coast parish of Saint Mary is a good choice. This is a large parish with many beaches, and some of the properties are also perfect for a honeymoon.

What’s Special About Antigua
Antigua and Barbuda may be next door neighbors in the Caribbean Sea, but they have many distinct differences. Sure, they both have miles of stunning white sand beaches, but the islands are as different as night and day when it comes to both lifestyle and geography.
Antigua is the larger island, in terms of size, population, and mass appeal. There are mountains, fields, and beaches to explore, and this is the island where all of the action happens. Its definitely a tourist-friendly place, and there is a ton to do here. Whether you enjoy outdoor activities, like hiking, fishing, or kayaking, youll be happy. Diving and snorkeling along the beach in the blue Caribbean waters is another popular activity. Shops, restaurants, and even casinos can be found on Antigua as well, and the local flavor of these island hotspots gives each place a unique, Caribbean vibe.
Barbuda is the less developed neighbor of Antigua, and this smaller island is known for its beaches and complete lack of people. If youre truly wanting to get away from it all, hop on a plane or ferry and head to Barbuda, where taking it easy has a whole new meaning. Visitors to Barbuda will arrive in the town of Codrington, but beyond that lies miles of undeveloped island. Any beach here is worth a visit, as much for swimming or sunbathing as just enjoying the solitude. Bird watchers will delight in the Frigate Bird Sanctuary, located off shore and home to huge numbers of tropical birds.

Antigua For It’s Climate And Beaches
Half Moon Bay is a stunningly beautiful beach, 25 min by car from Seatons. Long Bay just 5 min by car is also a very nice beach, having amenities as well. There are not a big selection of places to eat in Seatons. Mama Ruth at the grocery shop cooked very good meals at low prices to bring or eat at the vary basic site.Getting around Antigua is of course easiest having a rent car but there is also a simple and well working mini-bus system to get around.
There Are Two Types Of Dollar
Every first time visitor in Antigua has likely got confused about the currency situation when reading prices so let’s clear it up for you.
The US dollar is a widely used and circulated currency on the island, but you shouldnt always assume that prices quoted to you in dollars are actually referring to greenbacks or Benjamin Franklin. Instead, the Eastern Caribbean dollar – the currency of all seven full members and one associate member of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States – is the more common currency throughout Antigua and what we were quoted in at petrol stations, local supermarkets and restaurants outside our hotel. The problem arises in that both use the same dollar symbol but prices wont necessarily be listed with the necessary USD or XCD.
So, it is always worth checking the current exchange rate and confirming before paying.
For this reason, we also recommend that you bring USD into Antigua to spend, but also withdraw East Caribbean dollars whilst youre there for day-to-day spending money in local businesses. To emphasise, you will have no problem at all spending USD anywhere on Antigua, but change may not always come in USD.
Note that the two ATMs we withdrew from only offered East Caribbean dollars, and again just used the $ rather than specifically noting it was XCD. So you may take out either a lot more or a lot less than you anticipate!
Tip | For a reliable ATM, go to the supermarket in St Johns.

Hodges Bay Resort & Spa Hodges Bay
The talk of the island. The opening of Elegant Hotels’ new flagship property in early 2018 is like nothing Antigua has seen before – living walls, polished concrete, modernist-style buildings, with townhouses, pool villas and suites, sprawling like a mid-century estate from the Hollywood hills. There will be day-beds on the beach, hanging rattan swing chairs, and sleekly refined interiors designed by Miami architect Kobi Karp. Set on the north shore, it rivals mega-watt Jumby Bay in terms of the quickest hop from airport to sun lounger. And it will probably attract a similar guest. There is butler service, private hot tubs on bedroom balconies, lush tropical gardens and a picture-postcard white-sand bay lined with coconut palms. But there’s also action and adventure: hydrobikes and glass-bottomed kayaks, two swimming pools , cooking classes, mixology lessons, an all-singing, all-dancing kids’ club, plus a teen hangout. Come here for a high-end, high-octane holiday.

Whats The History Of Antigua
A former British colony, Antigua was discovered by Christopher Columbus, who thought hed finally reached Japan! Errr almost! He originally named the island Wadadli, which incidentally is now the name of the local beer.
Horatio Nelson built a dockyard on the island, which today is the only working Georgian dockyard in the world. Of course, the big industry was sugar an industry full of tragedy and slavery.
While abolished in 1950s, there are plenty of reminders in the form of the old sugar mills dotted all over the island.
Already Getting Itchy To Book Your 2020 Holiday
It doesnt take much to convince anyone to take a trip to the Caribbean – those images of white sandy beaches, turquoise skies, and vibrant rum punches are littered all over , and that pang of envy as you stick a postcard from an older relative on the fridge is pretty much all you need to book your flight. But why Antigua, and what should you do out there? I visited the stunning island, and these are my thoughts

Explore And Find Hotels In Antigua And Barbuda
Made up of its two namesake islands, Antigua and Barbuda is situated where the Atlantic and Caribbean oceans meet. Antigua is the larger of the two islands and emits an archetypal Caribbean vibe, with immaculate white sands running into strikingly blue waters. Little sister Barbuda is smaller but offers equally impressive beaches. St. Johns is the capital of Antigua and Barbuda and the only city on the island of Antigua. Here youll find hotspots such as the national museum, Heritage Quay shopping centre and various markets selling everything from soaps to sea shells. However, the islands biggest draw are their beaches. With 365 on Antigua alone, youve got one for every day of the year. You can soak up some rays on the popular resort beaches of Dickenson Bay and Runaway Bay, whilst Barbuda offers 16 kilometres of pink and white-tinged sandy beaches and barrier reefs. Both islands provide accommodation but Antigua is the more developed and makes for a better base. Accommodations range from all inclusive resorts to holiday parks and homestays. A ferry runs between the islands six days a week in almost all weather conditions.
Bolans Antigua Was Gorgeous
Bolans Antigua was gorgeous. The water is crystal clear and beautiful. The people of the island is laid back and very hospitable. South Point English Harbour
Opened quietly a couple of years ago, South Point is now carving out a name for itself as the slickest place to stay on this side of Antigua. The colonial-style buildings, divided into 23 suites, have surprisingly contemporary interiors: limed wood, whizzy kitchenettes and a dove-grey and warm white palette. It feels minimal but on point. The two-bedroom penthouses are the hot ticket, with huge decked terraces looking down onto the action. The hotel is about as close to the water as you can get and the shiny superyachts in horseshoe-shaped Falmouth Harbour bob just metres from the sliver of private beach. Kick back and watch the pelicans perched on the end of the pontoon while three-mast schooners navigate their way in through Deep Bay. The food and drinks here are excellent – don’t miss the sushi, or the cocktails made with local ingredients such as soursop and sorrel. But you’re also just a few minutes’ walk from chic beach club Catherine’s Café Plage, as well as the shops and restaurants of Nelson’s Dockyard.
