Hotel Recommendations:

Grand Canyon Village Hotels

By far the best location to stay at the Grand Canyon National Park is the Grand Canyon Village at the South Rim. There are several nice hotels here. And because you are sleeping inside the National Park, you are just a short walk away from the most beautiful scenery. Some lodges even offer rooms with partial canyon views.

If you want to see one of the famous Grand Canyon sunrises, then staying inside the park will make it so much easier.

The biggest disadvantage of staying at the Grand Canyon hotels is the high price tag and sometimes a bit of impersonal service. Furthermore, most hotels inside the park have no WiFi available and some have no air-conditioning. So if those things are important to you, make sure to double-check it before booking!

Good to know: Internet connectivity at the Grand Canyon lodges is limited and spotty at best. There are several lodges where it works a bit better than at the others, but even then, the connection is so slow that even checking your email will require lots of patience.

All that being said, you come here for the location. And if the location is what matters to you the most, then these are the best hotels in Grand Canyon:

  • El Tovar Hotel. This historic hotel is located right at the canyon rim and is considered the crown jewel of the Grand Canyon hotels.
  • Bright Angel Lodge. A rustic lodge with a big variety of rooms from cabins to lodge rooms and also budget rooms with shared bathrooms.

Bright Angel Lodge & Cabins

Grand Canyon, Arizona, USA

Bright Angel Lodge & Cabins is the polar opposite to El Tovar. There are 90 lodging units, some with shared bathrooms offered at a more reasonable nightly rate.

Stay here for location and if youre traveling on a tight budget. Bright Angel is the only lodging you will find along the rim in which a night can cost under US$ 150 per night.

You will need to be flexible and be able to travel midweek to get a cheaper rate. Due to the lower price point and location, this accommodation fills very early.

Room Cost: Varies depending on season typically US$ 128 / US$ 214 + tax per night for room with or without shared bathrooms.

Since the Grand Canyon South Rim is open all year round, you can technically visit any time of the year. But I would highly recommend visiting in early May or mid/late September when the temperature is more mild and dry. Its about 70-80F during the day but it gets quite cold at night/early morning so make sure to bring layers. This temperature is from the top of Grand Canyon at 7000ft. After a short stop at the Visitor Center, we recommend walking the Trail of Time to the Grand Canyon Village for great views of the Canyon and even solitude on some stretches. At 1.7 miles, the Trail of Time is short enough to enjoy walking it without feeling overwhelmed. This interpretive section of the Rim Trail uses age markers, signs, and rock samples to represent the geological timeline of the Grand Canyon. The exhibits along the trail showcase rocks of the canyon taking visitors on a 2,000 million years old geological journey through the history of the Earth. Each brass marker represents one million years of geology, where you can stop and learn about the layer of rocks in the Canyon representing each particular time. Enjoy this walk through geologic history and gorgeous views while making your way to the Grand Canyon Village.
