The Best Ski Hotels And Places To Stay In Aspen For Skiing
If youre wondering how to get to Aspen for skiing, your best bet is to fly into the Aspen/Pitkin County Airport. Its a regional airport that does have regular flights from Delta, United, and American Airlines, which makes it super convenient to get here. Your other options are Eagle County Regional Airport, which has fewer commercial flights, or Denver International Airport.
The Aspen airport is just minutes from Snowmass and there are non-stop flights from several major cities, so thats what we recommend to get to Aspen. But if youre flying in from overseas or you prefer larger airports and airplanes, then head into Denver. Be advised, its a 4-hour drive from Denver to Aspen, and thats if the weather is good and theres no ski traffic on I-70 in the mountains!
As for Aspen, youll love this little town and the nearby resort town of Snowmass Village, which is quite an iconic little alpine town. Ritzy Aspen is known for some of the highest hotel prices of any resort in North America. But lower-cost alternatives do exist. The sacrifice you make for the mouthwatering package that is Aspen Meadows Resort is the location. This campus-style property set in a 40-acre park is a 20-minute walk , theyre big, immaculately-kept, and well-equipped.
The Durant is another good-value location in town. Its a well-kept bed and breakfast, only two blocks from the main Ajax lift and right by a bus stop too giving easy access to the resorts other three mountains. The cheaper rooms are fairly small, but cute and clean, and if its location youre after, for a reasonable price, this is the place. Hotel Lenado is a small and homely B& B. However, the most moderate choice weve found in the resort is the St Moritz Lodge & Condos. Besides its regular hotel bedrooms, it also has some hostel rooms where you book a single bed in a shared room and use the shared bathroom down the hall one for men and one for women. It specializes in long lets from $31 per night for 30+ days in 2012-13.

Slightly pricier is the Limelight Hotel, right in the centre of town. The hotel has large, well-equipped rooms and suites, some with kitchens, sitting rooms with fireplaces and terraces. Staying In Snowmass Vs Aspen In Summer
Is it better to stay in Aspen than Snowmass in the summer? We are looking for a condo for our family of 4 and it looks to be a bit more reasonable in Snowmass, but I dont want to be too far from restaurants, activities, etc. We will have a rental car so dont mind driving a few miles to get to the town. Any advice would be appreciated.
Ive never stayed in Snowmass nor have I commuted there from Aspen, so I have no info there. But Ive been to Aspen in the summer on several occasions and the actual town of Aspen is wonderful and authentic. Its really nice staying in Aspen and being able to walk everywhere around town. Be sure to ride to the top of the gondola for unbelieveable views and also try to make it to the . The nights are cool and breeezy, youll love it!
Summer in Snowmass is generally quieter than Aspen and more reasonable in pricing. Snowmass is only about 5 miles from Aspen and the bus runs on a regular basis between the two. Snowmass has a few shops and places to dine, so you will have things to do in Snowmass, but Aspen will have many, many more options.
Snowmass also has several summer activities including Thursday evening free music. While it might be a little inconvenient to take a bus or drive 5 miles, if the savings is significant, I would definitely give it a try.
You are wise avoiding the lower priced condos in Aspen as they can be pretty shabby, like from the 70s or something.

You come for the winters but stay for the summers is how the saying about Aspen goes. And this hotel, well, its the heart of what makes Aspen so special. Heres one to add to your list of hotels to stay in this year. Welcome to The Little Nell, or The Nell, as its known by regulars.
The only hotel thats ski in, ski out in Aspen, The Nell is at the base of Ajax and right next to the gondola. Thats also why in winter, if youre not having champagne sprayed into your hair for après ski at Cloud 9 on the mountain, The Nell is a popular spot to end a day on the slopes. For summer, they have bluegrass bands performing live in the afternoons or, at minimum, a great DJ spinning tunes.
The Food
Ajax Tavern at The Nell also does elevated après ski food. Youll find dishes from truffle French fries to a vegan cauliflower concoction that is like a mac and cheese, along with their signature burger. For more elevated cuisine, Element 47 has one of the best wine cellars in town. They also have an ongoing interesting lineup of guest chefs who make the food shine.

Aspen and Snowmass are two famous ski resorts in Colorado, located only 20 minutes drive from each other. Both offer access to incredible mountains like the Aspen Highlands and outdoor sports like hiking, mountain biking, and, of course, world-class skiing.
But, the two towns differ in some elements that can really make the difference in your holiday!
Aspen is a world-famous ski destination, so expect it to be quite crowded. We Came In The Fall And Stayed Three Nights
We came in the fall and stayed three nights. We visited Maroon Bells, Kebler Pass, took the Silver Queen Gondola to the top of the mountain for the fantastic view. We even took Dean Ghost tour one evening. Also, we visited John Denvers Sanctuary, which is worthwhile. Wish we had one more day to shop and explore the town and beautiful architecture. We really enjoyed Aspen.

Aspen Was Absolutely Beautiful
Aspen was absolutely beautiful. 100% worth going. Everything is very clean. All the staff we came across were very friendly and helpful. The town provides bus service to several places for free which is great. They also provide a free taxi service that travels inside the city for free. Makes it awesome for your short trips so you arent constantly having to deal with parking or trying to GPS everywhere with the amount of pedestrians. The gondola was an amazing adventure also. EVERYTHING in town is very pricey so be prepared for some expensive meal tickets.

Is Royal Pda Really What It Seems
Meat & Cheese is, unsurprisingly, a great place to stop in for a drink and a great meat and cheese board . Visit the Hotel Jeromes J-Bar for one of the best burgers in town and Aspen Hickory House for what are arguably the best ribs in Colorado.
While all of the on-mountain dining in Aspen is truly fantastic , there are some standouts. Bonnies on Aspen Mountain is known for their pancakes and apple strudel. Cloud Nine Alpine Bistro on Highlands is the place to go to get doused in champagne, dance like crazy, andoh yeaheat a bit for lunch. Gwyns High Alpine on Snowmassowned and operated by the same family for almost four decadesoffers seriously fine dining right on the slopes. After a day of skiing on Aspen Mountain, head to Ajax Tavern right next to the gondola to refueldont leave without trying the truffle fries.
