Located southeast of Auckland CBD and 20 minute drive away from the international airport, this area is a dream come true for any person who loves to raid all the stores while they are on holiday! Especially for all my European friends who, like me, have always wanted to buy stuff from brands that arent available on our continent.
Having the Auckland Domain as its northern neighbor, the name of this area tells its story and why it was created in the first place. So that people have an entire district just for shopping! Everyone says that Newmarket is a smaller CBD that is not so crazy and chaotic!
One of the best areas to stay in the city if you love to shop, go to the cinema and try all the different international restaurants. The Best Areas To Stay In Auckland For Any Budget
Wondering which neighbourhood is best for you? Read on …
Auckland is a sprawling city with numerous suburbs that you could stay in. Many people assume that the best place to stay is in the centre of the city which includes Queen Street and the surrounding area. However, beachside suburbs like Mission Bay, or hipster areas like Ponsonby offer good quality accommodation in interesting surroundings.
Inner suburbs are within 20 minutes of the CBD by public transport and sometimes that distance can even be walked. From Auckland Airport, the Skybus takes 60 minutes to arrive at the CBD. The city centre has direct train routes out west to Swanson, south to Onehunga and Papakura and south east through Panmure to Manukau.
A few options are available in the outer suburbs, particularly motels. A car can be useful outside of the CBD outside the city centre parking is usually free and, since most public transport between the suburbs requires a trip into and then out from the city centre, a car is usually much quicker. The trip into the city to see things will be a bit longer though, up to an hour if you’re staying a long way out. Consider carefully what the public transport options are when you stay in the outer suburbs. It’s not ideal to have to drive into the city for the day, since parking can be expensive.

There isnt a lot of choice in terms of pricing if you want to stay in a decent hotel around here so I have found your best 4 options overall. Parnell Where To Stay In Auckland For History Lovers
Such a cute and cozy area! Located just east of central Auckland and 20 minutes drive from the airport, Parnell is thought to be Aucklands oldest suburb, dating back to 1841! This place is very exclusive. The Edwardian houses look amazing, and combined with the view of the Sky Tower, its like youre on a movie set where each zone belongs to a different time era!
The old houses make Parnell look like a village, thats why it will be so nice to wander on the streets of this neighborhood, especially at night when they turn on all the fairy lights. Youll find some cool attractions here including the Auckland Domain, which is one of the citys most important parks, and is set in a volcanic crater! Thats something you dont get to see every day!
This is another high-class area but a little more residential than Ponsonby, which means youll find really nice restaurants and bars, although they will be a bit more pricey. You better save some money for shopping too because who cant resist the urge to enter one of those cute boutique stores! I know I cant!
Lets not forget about the Parnell Rose Gardens, where youll want to spend the whole day! If you still have some time left, you can always use public transport and visit Viaduct Harbour in the CBD area!
Auckland Harbour Bridge: Going Up Or Down
Controversially labelled the “coat-hanger” by locals for its less than desirable design, the Harbour Bridge offers thrilling activities. For most, this 8-laned motorway is simply a commuter route, but for tourists, more exciting opportunities await. A 130-foot bungee jump plunge can be made into the water below, soaring through unbelievable views. Or you can climb to the tallest point of the metal structure for epic views of the city and across the gorgeous bay.
