Where To Stay In Beaune France

Night 2 Beaune/abbaye De La Bussire

Visit of Beaune, France

If youve enjoyed a little wine in Beaune, then spend the night here. There are some lovely hotels including the 4-star Hotel Le Cep. Alternatively, drive 35 minutes to Abbaye de la Bussière.

Where To Stay In Burgundy

Burgundy is made up of four departments: Côte-dOr, Saône-et-Loire, Yonne and Nièvre, with the Morvan Regional Park in the centre. If you have 3 days in Burgundy, then I recommend staying in Côte-dOr for at least part of the trip, as this department contains both Dijon and Beaune. Depending on how much you like changing accommodation, you can base yourself in one location and take day trips to the other towns and villages, or you can travel around the region staying in different areas . This 3 day Burgundy itinerary stays in a different location each night, to maximise your time in the region, with an optional 4th night if you have time.

Why We Fell In Love With Beaune France

Beaune, France is not only the capital of Burgundy wine but it is also a beautiful and historic part of France. There is so much to see and do in this small, countryside community and if you are lucky enough to visit you will make memories that are sure to last a lifetime. Many people go to Beaune for the wine but they have so much more to offer.

We visited France in October, they say that is a less touristy time because the weather is cooler. But since we live in Tampa Florida, we were perfectly happy to escape the heat and put on a jacket for a week or two.

In fact, my husband and I were two of the people that originally planned our trip to Beaune from Paris for the wine. We started our French vacation in Paris where we spent several days immersed in the Parisian culture, history and food. We walked the Seine River, marveled at the Eiffel Tower during the day and witnessed the sparkling lights at night, we spent time in churches that were centuries old, walked breathtaking gardens and explored world renowned museums.

When we were ready to escape the city for the small town atmosphere, we went to Beaune. We took the train into Beaune and when we stepped off, we were in a whole new world. Those few hours on the train transported us to a small town rich in history, filled with quaint eateries, bread vending machines and wineries were on every corner. I was in heaven.

Ok, really stopping now. Ready to explore Beaune France? Lets go!

This Is A Really Pretty French Town With Unique Medieval

This is a really pretty French town with unique medieval features and buildings. Obviously a place for wine lovers and those who appreciate fine dining – at a price. In this town a glass of wine is typically 10 euros. Bottles in decent restaurants of acceptable wine start at about 40 euros. Even a lunch in a fairly modest restaurant can run to 70 euros plus tip for two people and this appears to be because of the wine cost per glass. The best value ticket is the Medieval Hospital which at 10 euros is a steal. Very good presentation of the building and its history.

For Lovers Of White Rather Than Red

  • If you’re a fan of white over red, you may also want to consider Les Charmes in Mersault as your Burgundy base. This beautiful 18th Century mansion has charming grounds – more like a small park than a garden. This is definitely one of the best places to stay if you’re looking for a secluded, romantic setting.

Wine And The Wineries

Oh my goodness. There are wineries everywhere. It is truly unlike anything I have ever seen. These arent all like the wineries that you will see in Napa and Sonoma, some are small family wineries that simply make wine because they enjoy it. For their family. There are vineyards all over the mountainside, in every spot you can imagine. Families have their piece of land and they take pride in it, no matter how big or how small. They grow their grapes and cherish what they produce. Which is understandable since the tradition of making Bourgogne wines s over 2,000 years old. The rich and substantial history is at the heart of the values of Bourgogne, such as they believe in environmentally friendly and cultivating methods for wine-making that respect the environment. All Bourgogne wines are listed in Appellations: Grand Cru, Village Premier Cru, Village Appellations, and Regional Appellations. Grand Cru being the more expensive wines as the area of which the grapes grow is very minimal. All Bourgogne wines, whether red or wine or Grand Cru or from a Regional Appellation have an extraordinary delicacy that focuses on the elegance of their aromas.

Dog Friendly Beaune, France : DOG FRIENDLY TRAVEL

By Robert Draper

On my first evening in the impossibly handsome city of Beaune in eastern France, I took a taxi with a couple of fellow Washington, D.C., escapees to a wine dinner held at a vineyard just outside town, in the Côte de Beaune subregion of Burgundy known as Volnay. The annual event was attended by over 100 of the areas great vignerons among them, Alex Gambal, an American transplant who has been making lean and polished Burgundies for nearly two decades now. I had never met Mr. Gambal before, but he graciously supplied translations for me as speeches were given extolling the land and one another through six hedonistic courses while the ebbing sunlight glazed the lush countryside.

Meanwhile, out came the bottles, ferried from table to table by the winemakers themselves among the worlds most celebrated pinot noirs, poured into any vagrants outstretched glass. Would Monsieur wish to try the 1978 Domaine Michel Lafarge Clos des Chênes? Or perhaps Monsieur might prefer a 1964 vintage? To be the monsieur in question in this scenario, stammering out an appreciative oui every five minutes while the exquisite pours kept coming, is to hurtle into the very epicenter of wine porn.

Oh, but I hope you do, I said after one sip of the potent but graceful pinot noir. Having agreed among ourselves that Mr. Rocault will soon be among the regions next superstars, we bought as many bottles as we could carry with us.

La Maison D’olivier Leflaive

Youll discover this delightful hotel in the middle of the main square of the small village of Puligny-Montrachet that gives its name to one of the great Burgundy wines. This is an unusual hotel with 11 rooms and 2 junior suites ranging from the conventional to the decidedly quirky. One has a country feel with exposed beams and wooden floors and a decorative theme that takes a black-and-white cow as its inspiration another is 50s retro for the would-be pop star. Check on the website before booking to get the right room for you. The restaurant is bistro style and good value and theres a serious wine list plus special wine tasting here. Of all the hotels in the area, this is one of the most relaxed.

Stay In Beaune Or Dijon

We’re a couple in our late 20s looking to stay in the Burgundy region for a week. We are going to book an apartment for a week, but unsure whether to stay in Dijon, Beaune or the countryside somewhere in between. We love good food, wine , biking and will have a car for the week. We’re not too into museums, this trip is for food and wine. We aren’t looking for night life, outside of decent dinner spots. Where to stay?

Either makes a good choice but as I never, never drive in France after having had more than one glass of wine, you may want to stay in town where restaurants are within walking distance or your hotel.

That’s is a very good point, Sarastro. Would you recommend Dijon or Beaune? We’d like to have good options for places to eat, but also food markets to stay in and cook. Also, easy access to get to the wineries via wine tours or biking.

We never drink and then get in a car as drivers as Sarastro says, drink-driving laws are very strictly applied.

I prefer Beaune to Dijon, as it’s compact, has lovelyarchitecture and is easy to get to know although very popular, it also has a calm character. If you’re renting a gite, you’ll be able to enjoy shopping at small busunesses and become regulars. There are plenty of good restaurants, a super market and plenty to do.

Again, no personal experience here, just research. Perhaps others would comment if this makes sense.

Beaune Is Charming Very Reminiscent Of Bruge

Things to do in Beaune, France

Beaune is charming, very reminiscent of Bruge. It attracts the wealthy, many of the shops and restaurants cater for the discerning well off traveller so be prepared for that to dictate the cost, that being said many restaurants offer a set menu, we ate at the Parisian, which we enjoyed, they had three set menus from 22 – 29 euros. Its a great place to stop if like us you are breaking up a long drive from the south of France to Calais, and want to mooch about a charming historical town. Theres lots of free parking outside of the walled city, and a Lidls tucked away behind the Bretonnaire car park.

    How To Get To Burgundy

Burgundy is situated slightly east of the centre of France. The closest airport is Dole-Jura, which is 50 km south-east of Dijon, Burgundys capital. I took the train from London St Pancras, changing in Paris to the high-speed TGV train, which takes an hour and 40 minutes to reach Dijon. There is also the option to change trains in Lille.
