Best Places To Stay In Lockwood Montana Tips And Advice
- Although not considered a town in its own right, Lockwood boasts a tight-knit community that is working towards recognition as a fully incorporated municipality in the future.
- Lockwood is a haven for recreational activities, with hiking, river sports, and fishing all available in the area. It is also a popular choice of destination for those wishing to explore the best of southern Montana and is in close proximity to several points of interest, including Downtown Billings, Yellowstone National Park, and Custer Gallatin National Forest.
- The area was once the site of a U.S. Calvary camp that serviced the numerous cavalry units surveying the region. At the time, it was called Hirsch, but as the community expanded, it was renamed Lockwood. The inspiration behind the name reportedly comes from Captain Lockwood, a Cavalry officer who was active in the area.
- Alternatively, some sources claim that the name Lockwood actually originated from fallen timber that was left behind from a natural disaster that occurred nearby, which was said to look like locked wood.
- For those wondering where to stay in Lockwood, there are limited accommodation options within the suburb itself. But there is lots of choices elsewhere in Billings. Many travelers choose to stay in other areas of the city, such as Billings Heights or the Downtown area, as they have a wider range of options and Lockwood is still nearby for exploring.

Pictograph Cave State Park Billings Mt
Wondering through the loop trail through the Cave State Park, visitors cannot help but wonder about the lives of prehistoric Montana residents that drew colorful cave paintings or pictographs more than 2,000 years ago.
The Pictograph, Middle and Ghost caves that make up the park were a home or a camp site to a group of hunters who left more than 30,000 artifacts and animal bones in all three caves and about 100 paintings on the walls of the Pictograph cave. Most drawings depict animals. The park around the caves is great for hiking and has a pleasant picnic facility. A modern Visitors Center offers more information on the caves and their exploration.

Billings suck, there was nothing to do. All industrial and manufacturing etc. Ugly city would never go back. I dont know how that city/town whatever you call it got such a great lineup of blues, but I will never be back. And the smoke from the fires made everything worse. I know that is not anyones fault, but it sure made it worse
