Backpacking In Bryce Canyon
The Under the Rim trail is the signature backpacking experience of Bryce Canyon National Park. This one-way 23-mile hike takes 2-3 days and requires a backcountry permit.
The trail covers the length of the park from Bryce Point up to Rainbow Point. As the name implies, you spend the majority of the hike underneath the rim of the amphitheater amongst the hoodoos.
Contact Information All Travelers
All air passengers to the United States will also be required to provide contact information to airlines before boarding flights to the United States. This strengthens a travel process already in place to rapidly identify and contact people in the U.S. who may have been exposed to a communicable disease, such as COVID-19. Access to travelers contact information will allow U.S. federal, state, and local health departments, and agencies to share appropriate health and public health information necessary to help keep the public safe.

Hatch A Great Stop Between Zion And Bryce

We talked about the small town of Hatch in the article about Red Canyon and SR-9. Those who want to combine a visit to Bryce with a visit to Zion National Park. may find it convenient to stop here.
To tell the truth, given its proximity to the Bryce, an overnight stay in Hatch can also be of interest to those who want to visit the park without taking the famous scenic drive on SR-9 from Zion, but it is less frequent to find accommodations here, even in a town of this size. However, if youre a bit tired after taking the winding curves of the SR-9 towards Bryce, its better that you dont go to Kanab, but go to Hatch instead. We recommend
Bear in the Bed and Breakfast
The owner of this beautiful bed and breakfast located half an hour from Bryce really likes teddybears, and does nothing to hide it. But thats just one of the surprises of this beautiful wooden house. You will find superb hospitality, extreme attention to detail, a small-town and homely atmosphere and the infinite and beautiful landscape of Utah to behold when looking out your window.

Staying Outside Of Bryce Canyon National Park
Because Bryce Canyon only has one entrance into the park, its easy to be close to the park without actually being in the park. I recommend staying outside of Bryce Canyon if you want nicer amenities, cheaper prices, or more dining and activity options.
Bryce Canyon City
Just outside of the park entrance, youll find Bryce Canyon City. This town consists of a few hotels, restaurants, and camping options. During the summer, you can find activities such as an evening rodeo, dinner show, horseback riding, and ATVing.
The Bryce Canyon Shuttle makes stops in Bryce Canyon City, so you can leave your car in town and take the shuttle into the park if you dont want to deal with trying to find parking. If you want to drive your own vehicle, it only takes 5 minutes to get to the park visitor center.
Bryce Canyon National Park Campgrounds
Bryce Canyon has two campgrounds available: the North Campground, close to the visitor center, and the Sunset Campground, near the lodge.
The North Campground has sites for both tents and RVs, though the sites dont have water, sewer, or electrical hookups. All campsites have fire grates, and the campground has flushable toilets, but no showers. It is open year-round, except during holidays.
The Sunset Campground, just west of Sunset Point, also has sites for tents and RVs, and it also has a group site. All campsites have fire grates, but the campground has only portable toilets and no showers. There are two accessible sites here that need to be booked ahead of time. These are near the paved access road and an accessible restroom. The Sunset Campground is closed during the winter season, from the beginning of November to the end of April.
You wont find cell-phone reception or Wi-Fi connectivity at either campground.
Pro Tip: These campgrounds fill up by noon during the high season , so plan to get there early to nab a spot. If you came prepared to camp, but cant find a spot in the two campgrounds, you can camp just outside the parks boundaries in the Red Canyon Campground or the Kings Creek Campground.

Make Use Of The Shuttle Service
This pertains more to you if you plan on visiting during peak season but make use of the shuttle service. Its completely free to use and saves you the hassle of finding parking which can be extremely difficult in the summer.
The shuttle stops at many popular spots, including Bryce Point, Inspiration Point, Sunrise Point, and more. Plus, if youre staying at the Best Western PLUS Rubys Inn, it will even pick you up and bring you back there!
The shuttle service usually starts in late spring and closes in early fall .

The Best Light For Photos Is In The Morning
One thing you should know for Bryce that I didnt know before my trip: the best light for photos is in the morning.
In the afternoon, the sun is on the opposite side of the canyon from most of the interesting stuff, which leads to long shadows that really mess with your pictures because of the extremes of light and dark in the photo.
In the morning, the sun lights up the hoodoos and other formations, making them that much more spectacular.

Tropic West Of Bryce Canyon
Tropic is a tiny town famous because Wanda Day, drummer and founder of the 4 Non Blondes, who died of a drug overdose in 1997, is buried here. To get there, one must keep heading west on SR-12 after the junction with Bryce. Like the nearby town of Cannonville, Tropic is strategic both for visiting Bryce Canyon and Kodachrome Basin State Park.
Bryce Canyon Log Cabins
Located 15 minutes from the park, Bryce Canyon Log Cabins has a number of quaint wooden cabins that are perfect for anyone who wants to spend a night in a typical Utah setting. Next to the lovely wood-scented cabins is the barbecue area.
Best Hotel In Bryce Canyon City: Bryce Canyon Pines

Driving Bryce Canyon Scenic Drive
End your day in Bryce Canyon with a drive along the 19-mile scenic drive to the end of the road.
Youll want to start at least two hours before sunset, and Id recommend heading all the way to the end of the road, then turning around and doing the viewpoints on the way back.
The reason? The pullouts are all on the east side of the road, which puts them on your right as you drive back down.
Our two favorite viewpoints along this road were Natural Bridge and Bryce Point, but there are several more that are worth a stop.
About Bryce Canyon National Park Hotels

Lodging options in and around Bryce Canyon include both rustic and modern amenities, but all fill up fast in summer. Bryce Canyon Lodge is the only hotel inside the park, but there are a number of options in Bryce Canyon City, just north of the parks entrance. Panguitch and Tropic are small towns nearby with good options for budget and last-minute travelers.

Bryce Canyon National Park is a wonderful place to set-up camp and has two popular campgrounds: the North and Sunset campgrounds. Youll find tent and RV camping at both campgrounds.
Both campgrounds are near the visitor center, the Amphitheater, and the Bryce Canyon Lodge.
North Campground requires reservations through Recreation.gov from May 27 to October 1. From October 2 to May 26 all sites are first-come, first-served. Sunset Campground is open April 15 to October 31 with all sites being first-come, first-served
Keep in mind there are no sewer, water or electrical hook-ups at either campground. There is a dump station available during the summer months near North Campground and is included in the campsite fee.
Primitive and backcountry camping is also available for those who prefer even more solitude.
Bryce Canyon City Ut Bryce Canyon Hotels Just Outside The Park
Bryce Canyon City is another great option for where to stay near Bryce Canyon National Park. The town is located adjacent to the park just minutes away from the adventure. So from the hotels near Bryce Canyon in Bryce Canyon City you have very good park access.
Just like when you stay inside the park you get a head start compared to other visitors when you stay at a Bryce Canyon hotel in Bryce Canyon City. With very little effort you can get from your Bryce Canyon accommodation to the park very early to catch a sunrise, or late in the night for some top-class stargazing.
Conveniently so Bryce Canyon has a park shuttle that takes visitors from the town of Bryce and the Bryce Canyon hotels to the park during the busier half of the year. So if you dont visit during low-season you can keep your car parked during your visit when you stay at a hotel in Bryce Canyon city.
All in all, Bryce Canyon City is a great option for where to stay near Bryce Canyon National Park. The town is located so near the national park that staying at a Bryce Canyon City hotel more or less is like staying inside the park itself.
- Driving distance: 2.5 mi / 4 km
