Romsey Coolest Place To Stay In Cambridge

Romsey used to be a not so nice area in Cambridge but has in the last few years turned into one of the hippest neighbourhoods in the UK. Tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the city centre, it boasts its very own vibe full of English coolness.

In Romsey, take the opportunity to live like a local and take the time to hang out in all the local cafés and restaurants. Some good ones to try are the Limoncello Café for a unique Italian vibe, the Black Cat Café for an all-day breakfast or the Liutaio Music Café to sip on a cuppa surrounded by musical instruments.

From Romsey, skip the bus to reach the city centre and hop on a bike instead. Cycle through the picturesque terraced houses and through the Mill Road neighbourhood before reaching the historic centre. If you get tired, there will always be a restaurant to stop in!

Where To Eat And Drink

Its impossible to have a conversation about restaurants in Cambridge without mentioning Oleana: Helmed by James Beard winner Ana Sortun , Oleana’s kitchen has been a mainstay of the Cambridge dining scene since 2001 and has garnered countless accolades for its bold, Middle Eastern fusion small plates. But just as impactful as the food is the role Oleana has played as a launching pad for many of the Boston-area’s most acclaimed chefs: Oleana-trained local Cassie Piuma, for example, co-opened Sarma in Somerville alongside Sortun in 2013, and has received six nods from the James Beard Foundation for the casual spot’s Turkish-inspired tapas. Reserve a table well ahead of time, and dont miss the skewers, Black Sea Cornbread, or extensive cocktail list.

In Cambridge’s Central Square, Pammys also offers outstanding food in an unstuffy setting. The brainchild of partner team Pam and Chris Willis, Pammys menu highlights simple ingredients in powerful flavor combinations: think baby beets served with goat yogurt and spring onions, fava bean pasta in a buffalo cream with chili oil, and simple crudos and tartares. The $69 three-course pre-fixe is a choose-your-own-adventure, with the whole menu up for grabs in every course.

Where To Stay In Cambridge: Gonville Hotel

Things to See Around Cambridge

As I always say, accommodation is a huge part of my travel. I love unique stays, luxury ones, cool hotels and everything in between. So when I researched where to stay in Cambridge, Gonville Hotel came up a few times. I had a little browse on their Instagram page and was sold.

Location

The Gonville Hotel is truly a wonderful luxury hotel right in the heart of Cambridge. Its location is right in the center of the city and just opposite the famous Parkers Piece. I love that it is a short walk to everywhere. Address is Gonville Place, CB1 1LY.

Parking is £17* each day, which I found quite pricey but tbh, coming from London, I couldnt complain much. Also, considering its location and how parking in Cambridge can be limited, it makes sense that there is a charge.

Reception

The reception was simple but pretty. There is a sit down, welcome area, which was quite useful as it was a busy check in period. It was the bank holiday weekend so everyone and their mama were in Cambridge. Check in was quick and even though we arrived about 30 mins before the official check in time, our rooms were already ready.

Rooms

We had the pleasure of experiencing 2 rooms because we went with Bobo. Mr E and I stayed in the Super Deluxe while Bobo stayed in a Classic Double. It is possibly easier to have booked an Airbnb but tbh, I wanted full on luxury so hotel it was!
