Cannes Town Where To Stay In Cannes For Tourists

The Old Town area of Cannes is also called Le Suquet and is located just above Vieux Port. As you might guess, Old Town has less glitz and glamour of the French Riviera, but more history and spots of interest. Cobblestone streets wind up and down the hills of Cannes, past boutique shops, souvenir stands and many excellent restaurants.

You wont find as many chains here, and as a result, fewer Cannes hotels than other nearby areas, but there are many smaller options for basing yourself here in Cannes town. Make sure to climb to the top of the hill at least once for breathtaking views of Cannes city, the French Riviera and the Mediterranean Sea.

Cannes Or Nice On The French Riviera: Which City Is Best

Are you wondering if Cannes or Nice is best?

A common question that is being asked is Cannes or Nice which is the best?, and when it comes to comparing different cities, its always a bit tricky, because every city is unique in their own way, and what some might consider being the best might not be considered the best according to someone else.

Mostly, when comparing cities, including when trying to decide Cannes or Nice, its about preferences.

So thats why we wont share too many personal options in this post but instead focus on answering the question Cannes or Nice?, by presenting their positive and less positive sides, so you can form an opinion and answer the question yourself.

Of course, before youve actually been to Cannes and Nice, its impossible to compare them and decide if the best is Cannes or Nice, however, you can compare them based on what types of cities they are and what they have to offer.

Lets begin by saying, whether you choose Cannes or Nice to stay at, it wont matter that much, because traveling between the two cities can be done with ease. • For me it is Cannes because: .) it has nicer beaches .) It is much closer to Juan-Les-Pins which has even more nice beaches and nightlife .) Its just 1.5 hrs away from St. Tropez which offers even more nightlife options .) Cannes has just a tiny old-town but Antibes has a nice old-down which is just 7-10 by train from Cannes. .) Even without a car, you can visit Nice and all the nice towns around it by day but you cannot really go to nightclubs in Cannes without a car .) Outside of the summer season Nice is full of retired expats. If you are single and dont speak French, the prospects are grim. In Cannes however there are relatively more expats . And also Cannes has more events going on throughout the year .) The islands in front of Cannes are great for visiting and for surfing, canoeing, spearfishing and diving .) The Croisette in Cannes is shorter than Promenade des Anglais but its nicer. Also, for joggers and cyclists, when considered together with Bl. du Midi Louise its much longer than Prom .) The rugged coastline from Theole-sur-Mer to Le Dramont is much nicer for boat-trips, snorkeling, diving, spearfishing than the cost to the east or west of Nice .) In nearby Sophia Antipolis there are many job opportunities in IT and Telcom

In summary, I would prefer to be based in Cannes. and visit Nice & Monaco during the day, every now and then when I feel the urge for a bigger place or to visit some museums.

Nice Or Cannes: Vibe & People

As mentioned earlier, Cannes is more compact and less urban than Nice. Its a pretty town with nice sand beaches and the gorgeous Croisette beachside promenade.

The Croisette is lined with beautiful historic hotels often seen in movies you can freely enter the sumptuous lobbies and even access some of the bars for a nice drink. Other parts of cannes, though, have a more normal architecture.

Cannes has a small-town feel with its yacht harbor and tiny old town where you can find local food, cosmetics, souvenirs, and chic clothing. The Cannes port is also where you can catch a ferry to the pretty Lerins islands nearby.

Theres also a popular small shopping area across from the beach often referred to by Americans as Rodeo Drive.

Nice, on the other hand, provides a more urban experience with larger distances, diverse neighborhoods, larger and more frequent cultural events, and more choices for going out.

The tree-lined Promenade des Anglais is wide and beautiful and can be walked all the way to the Nice harbor. Youll often see performing artists and activities along the promenade. Like Cannes, Nice also has its grand hotels with beautiful architecture and frequent live bands.

Entertainment activities also take place in the pedestrian streets of the old town, around Place Massena where the tram goes, and in the Cours Saleya which is quite lively at night.

Rented Apartments Offer Many Benefits

When it comes to finding accommodation in Cannes, you will find that most people decide between staying in a hotel or staying in a rented apartment. There are positive reasons attached to either decision and no matter what you choose, you are likely to find something that is of tremendous benefit and value to you. However, there is no getting away from the fact that for a growing number of guests attending Cannes every year, there is a lot to be said for renting an apartment.

If you want to make the most of your time in Cannes, you will want to have as much money as possible. However, if you want to enjoy the Cannes experience as much as you possibly can, you will want to stay in luxurious surroundings. The great news about renting an apartment comes with the fact that you dont have to compromise on these elements as you can get the best of both worlds.

There is also a lot to be said for the fact that you will have a greater degree of freedom by staying in rented accommodation in Cannes. When you stay in an apartment, you have your own kitchen, allowing you to make breakfast, lunch, dinner or even snacks from the comfort of your own home. If you are pushed for time or you want to save money, the kitchen is one of the best assets you will have.

Staying in Cannes can be an amazing experience, but if you are smart in where you stay, you will find that you can have a greater degree of fun and entertainment without having to spend more money.
