Faraglioni Rock Formation in Capri
Day-trippers to Capri will find themselves having to sacrifice certain sights, as theres a ton to do on the island. Capris most famous feature is the Blue Grotto, a stunning natural cavern with water that shines an ethereal blue color from the sun. It can be accessed by boat during certain times of year , and most travelers make it a stop on a boat tour around the island. A boat tour of Capri is a must if weather conditions allow, as its an easy, fun, and often private way to see the islands striking cliffs and oceanfront sights including the famous Faraglioni, three towering rock formations that jut out from the Mediterranean Sea, and the Punta Carena Lighthouse. Capri boat tours from Sorrento are especially popular.
Its hard to beat J.K. Place Capri, a 22-room boutique hotel that exudes elegance and draws an in-the-know crowd. This late-19th-century villa has gorgeous clifftop sea views, especially from the glamorous pool. The style throughout evokes the sunny, seaside location with crisp whites, sea-blue accents, and lots of outdoor space for quiet relaxation. Guest rooms are spacious and comfy most have terraces or balconies to soak up those stunning Mediterranean Sea views. While the Piazzetta is between 15 and 20 minutes away on foot, the hotel runs a free shuttle to the center of town. Keep in mind that, like most hotels in Capri, the property is closed during the off season.
Gelato At Buonocore Gelateria
Every town in Italy has its own legendary gelateria, serving the finest ice cream to be found. In Capri, its Buonocore Gelateria. No trip to Capri is complete without ice cream or a snack here!
In addition to its famous ice cream, Buonocore Gelateria has a fantastic range of savories and cakes, all made the day itself and with local ingredients. The tiny Caprilu al Limone cakes come particularly recommended, as is the mouthwatering quiche!
But the chances are that youre here for the gelato. Its fresher, more delicious, and more reasonably priced than anywhere else on the island. The range of flavors is incredible and you cant go wrong with any of them. Strawberry and crema flavors are particularly good! Even the cones the ice cream is served in wont disappoint theyre freshly cooked to order in the cafe itself. Youll smell them baking from down the street!
I dont have a good picture of gelato from Buonocore Gelateria to share with you, so youll just have to go and see it yourself! In the meantime, the Italian gelatos pictured below will probably get your mouth watering

Capri is an island off the Italian coast, in the bay of Naples. It is popular especially in the summer for its stunning landscapes, hip beaches and great gastronomy.
There are two main towns on the island of Capri. Capri Town is the busiest, and also the best place to stay if you are looking to experience a vibrant environment with a lively nightlife. Capri Town also has several trendy beach clubs and restaurants.
The other town on the island of Capri is Anacapri. While it also gets very crowded during the high season, it remains quieter than Capri Town and boasts a more laid-back vibe. From Anacapri, you can also hike to the highest point of the island, Monte Solaro. Be prepared for amazing views from up there. Anacapri is also relatively cheaper than Capri Town and, for that reason, can be a good option for budget travellers.
For their first time on the island, most visitors will arrive by boat in Marina Grande. Indeed, this is where the ferries and cruise boats dock. Apart from the port, there are a few bars, restaurants, and hotels. Marina Grande is also where visitors will find the largest sandy beach on the island and thus is a destination in itself.
Visit La Certosa Di San Giacomo
If you plan on walking to the Gardens of Augustus, add a stop at this 14th century structure also known as the Charterhouse of St. Giacomo. Originally built as a monastery, one section is now used as a high school, another part for the Karl Wilhelm Diefenbach Museum, and is also often used for concerts and other events.
There is an entry fee of 6 per person but you can purchase a combination ticket for both the Charterhouse and the Gardens of Augustus for a discounted price to visit both.

Take A Capri Boat Tour To The Grottoes
Capri boat tours are one of the most popular things to do in Capri, whether you rent a boat and captain it yourself, or join an organized tour.
Boat tours depart from the main port on Capri, Marina Grande, then continue along the southern shoreline of the island to the famous Faraglioni rock formations, and around the picturesque lighthouse at Punta Carena.
Most tours will take you past the three grottoes, though you can only go inside one the famous Blue Grotto in Capri Italy, or Grotta Azzurra.
The Blue Grotto or Grotta Azzurra
Most tour boats will slowly motor past the Blur Grotto but if you want to go inside, youll have to purchase a ticket in advance or from the ticket boat outside the grotto. Then youll transfer to a smaller boat that can fit through the narrow opening in the rocks . But once inside.wow!
TheWhite Grotto or Grotta Bianca
You cant go inside but on a sunny day the white of the limestone contrasts with the turquoise of the sea and is as beautiful as it gets. Your boat captain will get close enough for you to see the stalagmites and stalactites hanging from the ceiling. One stalagmite in particular near the top of the cave is said to resemble a statue of the Madonna.
The Green Grotto or Grotta Verde
Marina Grande Where To Stay In Capri Your First Time
It is home to the largest sandy beach on the island, the Marina Grande beach. The beach is free and you can walk there from the main port area. Spend a lazy day there in the sun, while taking a dip in the clear water from time to time.
From Marina Grande, you can also take a shuttle boat to the Bagno di Tiberi Beach Club. This beach is only accessible by boat and boasts crystal clear turquoise waters. It is very popular with families as the waters are relatively shallow. On the ground, you can see the ruins of the Roman villa which once belonged to the Emperor Augustus. You can enjoy traditional Capri food at the seafront snack bar and restaurant while enjoying a view on the whole Bay of Naples.
A Locals Guide On Where To Stay In Capri
There is no better person to get insider tips on where to stay in Capri than from someone who lives there. Holly and Gianlucas former restaurant, Ristorante Michelangelo, instantly became my favorite place to eat in Capri after my husband and I had the most memorable meal there. On weekend trips from Naples, Ristorante Michelangelo was our go to spot for quality pasta dishes and a chocolate torta that I still cant believe is gluten free. Get the recipe in their virtual cookbook.
After meeting Holly at lunch, I followed her on . I got to know more about the Australian and how she ended up married to a Caprese local. Frankly, Im not sure why their story isnt a film yet. Youll want to keep reading to discover how they met.
Holly and Gianluca have since closed the restaurant and are embarking on a new journey in Anacapri, Giardino di Capri. Their new family business focuses on making tourism more sustainable and the importance of bringing agriculture back to the island community, along with celebrating the islands history, culture and natural beauty.
One Day In Capri: Suggested Itinerary
Below is our suggested one-day itinerary for Capri. If you are visiting the island for the first time and want to see the very best of Capri in one day, then this itinerary will get you to the nicest places in just a day. Find out!
Start the day by arriving at Capris Marina Grande, and hiring a boat tour to take you either to the Blue Grotto or on a tour around the island. On your return to the Marina, take the funicular up to Capri Town, and get a coffee or light lunch on Piazza Umberto I.
Stop at Buonocore Gelateria for a gelato, before walking past the shops on Via Camerelle, and turning off to walk along Via Matermania. Walk all the way down the road and take in the Natural Arch, before doubling back to the flight of steps leading down at the side of Ristorante Le Grottelle.
Continue along the Via del Pizzolungo, pausing to see the Grotta di Matromania and Casa Malaparte. Finish up with a view of the Faraglioni, before walking back up Via Tragara and bearing towards Giardini di Augusto and Via Krupp.
If you have time, decide whether youd rather see Monte Solaro , or Villa Jovis. On your return to Capri Town, head back down to , and grab at pizza at Ristorante Da Gemma!

What To See Nearby: Capri Day Trips
Most people come to Capri as a day trip from somewhere else. However, many others choose to base themselves on the island and take an occasional day trip from there.
If you are staying on Capri island and are looking for some excursions nearby, you should know that there arent that many options for day trips from Capri. Even if you find any, they are quite expensive. Therefore it might be easier to just take a boat to Sorrento and take public transport to the other places or book an organized tour from Sorrento.
One place you really have to see when staying in Capri is the famed Amalfi Coast, comprised of the small towns of Positano, Amalfi, and Ravello. No trip to this area is complete without seeing the beautiful scenery of the coast, whether its by road or sea!
I only found this one private Amalfi coast tour from Capri. Alternatively, you can take the Amalfi Coast day trip from Naples of Sorrento. Even a private Amalfi day trip from Sorrento will save you hundreds of euros in comparison to booking it from Capri.
The second trip youll definitely want to do is the Roman town of Pompeii, which was destroyed in 79AD. Now in a suburb of Naples, you can wander where Roman sandals once walked, and take in some truly amazing archaeological sites, including an amphitheater and brothel!
There arent any good tours to Pompeii directly from Capri, but its easy enough to join a Pompeii day tour from Naples of Sorrento. Of course, you have to get there first

If you are thinking of travelling to Capri, know that the closest international airports are Naples and Salerno notwithstanding that, many tourists who visit nearby locations like Positano, Amalfi and Sorrento decide to take a trip by ferry boat to Capri, thus reaching the port of Marina Grande in just forty minutes or in a bit more than one hour if their boat departs from Naples.
