Safe/unsafe Areas To Stay
Trying to book a hotel for a long weekend in September . I’ve heard that there are some areas to avoid as far as where to stay. We’ll be traveling as a family of four, with the Zoo being our top priority. We may also decide to do some hiking as well. Not that money is no object, but I’d rather pay a little more to be somewhere that I feel is safe for my family. Do have access to AAA discounts. Thanks for any and all info!
Well, for the most part, there will be areas that are nicer than others but not necessarily “unsafe”. I would say stay away from the budget motels on South Nevada or East Platte. Again, they aren’t really unsafe areas – we regularly have lunch/dinner along there with three small children – but probably not what you want for your experience in Colorado Springs.
If you’re looking for a low priced place to stay, though, I’d check out the major chain hotels , and you’ll probably want to look at those off the Interstate exits near Garden of the Gods, or South Circle Drive/Lake Avenue which will put you in close proximity to the zoo and hiking destinations.
Staying in that area will put you about 15 minutes from the zoo and Cheyenne Canyon/Helen Hunt Falls .
If you have questions about a specific area/hotel, feel free to post, and we’ll see if we can give you some input.

I Loved The Variety Of Places To Choose From To Visit While
I loved the variety of places to choose from to visit while here. Very scenic town with lots to do. We did a lot during our stay and still didn’t get to do everything! I did wish that the shops at Old Colorado City were open later, as when I got there after 7pm they were mostly closed. Favorite spots I visited were Pikes Peak, Garden of the Gods, Seven Falls, and for food it was Rudy’s BBQ.
