The closest beach to Comporta village would be dreamy anywhere else but is slightly outshone in the region by gorgeous Pego and Carvalhal. If youre staying in town and have no wheels its well worth hanging out on, however. At the end of the day head to the Comporta Café to swing in one of its hammocks, or sit back on one of its Adirondack chairs with a Negroni or a jug of sangria to share. Its not as chichi or friendly as Sal, or as authentic as O Dinis, but its a popular spot on a busy beach and hits that beach bar spot.

What I Wish I Had Known On The First Day
North of Comporta is the Troia Peninsula, a stretch of land that has succumbed to development and should be avoided, unless you are catching a boat, which would require a visit. Speaking of boats, unless you have never seen a dolphin, spotting one is like finding a needle in a haystack. Dont take a boat ride just to see dolphins hop in a boat to experience the area from a different vantage point and to see beaches and hamlets that only have sea access.
Comporta Houses For Sale
Most of the Comporta beach houses for sale are the typical home which needs renovating. In some instances, the new owners of these homes demolish them and rebuild from scratch.
You will also find several building plots for new homes with views to the ocean, although ocean views are quite rare. Most building plots have outline permission to build a family home between 300 sq.m. and 500 sq.m.
One exception is a new development near Pego beach where you may build a luxury villa of around 800 sq.m.
The village houses in Comporta, have a smaller footprint and are more like the typical home found throughout Alentejo. The exception to this is in Carrasqueira where you have the original and desirable cabanas made from reed and straw.
As you move further into the countryside, you will find move private estates with areas from two hectares and above.
Most clients are individuals who purchase a vacation property in Comporta, whilst some opt for a tourism project or farm.
Many clients buy land in Comporta to build their new home, whilst the developers generally offer a finished house.

Plenty O’ Fish In The Sea
Continuing further south from Praia do Carvalhal, you come across Praia do Pego. This wide, white sandy Comporta beach is known for its calm, gentle waters and generally tranquil vibe. You can reach it via the same road that is used to access Carvalhal, but it has its own infrastructure and services.
The conditions make it good for sport fishing, or just to while away your summer days in Comporta on a sun lounger. There are often fishing competitions and championships, too, which can make for a fun and unusual day of spectating.
Its another Blue Flag Beach with the usual services, and on the food front, a good choice for lunch is Sal, an understated-chic spot born out of the owners love the place, where diners can tuck into fresh fish and seafood with their feet in the sand.
Our Preferred Algarve Towns
What we love about Algarve is the diversity: beaches, green hills, small villages, lagoons, wildflowers The ideal Algarve itinerary offers a bit of everything, making it hard to pick just one favorite place. Our personal interests include sightseeing, easy hikes, beaches and a hint of luxury. Therefore, to us, these Algarve destinations stand out as the perfect travel bases to explore the wider area.
- Lagos, because its located in between the overwhelmingly beautiful natural park and the best beaches in the Algarve. We also found the historic center to be irresistibly charming and the Ponte da Piedade cliffs truly spectacular. Its also perfectly based for day trips, such as a visit to Silves Castle, and the marina offers plenty of boat excursions.
- The Golden Triangle, because its located near the Ria Formosa Natural Park and therefore near the beautiful deserted islands and the sleepy village of Olhão. Yet, its ideally located to explore historic Faro and quaint Loulé in the morning and then enjoy the Algarve coastline from a chartered yacht in the afternoon. The vicinity to Faro Airport, the gateway to Algarve, is a bonus.

Sem Porta Restaurant At Sublime Comporta
Food is another highlight of the hotel. Sem Porta is the hotels airy main restaurant , its mid-century furnishings and floor-to-ceiling windows divided from the lobby bar by breezy gauze curtains .
Under Tiago Santos in London and, before that, at various stellar Portuguese restaurants), both settings make much of seasonal and regional ingredients and influences, with exquisite rice dishes and ingredients sourced from local fishermen and wineries . The kitchen garden, in front of Sem Porta, also supplies the chefs and there are plans to expand this side of things further one of Portugals leading permaculture experts, Graca Saraiva, has been working with the hotel to encourage biodiversity on site, and to establish a dedicated seed bank.
Breakfast ticks all the right boxes. Sem Portas long wooden serving tables are almost invisible, screened by platters of gorgeous fresh sheeps cheeses, finely sliced fruit, cereals, tiny pastel de nata pastries and deliciously creamy homemade yogurt. Were not generally fans of bacon and eggs kept warm but, here, the hot breakfast basics are kept warm in Le Creuset casseroles balanced over giant clay hot pots and we were impressed . The only other surprise was that none of the servers had heard of or were able to deliver a flat white.
Cooking And Nature Emotional Hotel
The big idea at these two hotels, set 200 metres apart among ancient olive groves near the village of Alvados in the Parque Natural das Serras de Aire e Candeeiros, is that meals are cooked and shared , using a lot of produce grown in the garden. There are guided walks across six routes, as well as an app for planning more, and e-bikes are available to rent. The Emotional Hotel has 12 rooms while The Nest has eight rooms and two apartments. There are outdoor and indoor pools and a massage area. Beach Walks In Comporta
Praia da Raposa is another one for advanced beach-goers. Its also known as Praia do Pinheiro da Cruz because of its proximity to the prison of the same name. Its not technically open to the public, but you can reach it if youre willing to make the scenic long walk from one of the nearby public beaches.
Its notable for its red sandstone cliffs, well-formed dunes, and calm, light-blue waters. As can be expected, there is no infrastructure or services on this beach.
