The real Mystic Falls is none other than Covington, GA, and fans of The Vampire Diaries, The Originals, and Legacies will love visiting this town! Youll instantly recognize the iconic clock tower, the town square, and the Mystic Grill restaurant. Covington is also the filming location for Sweet Magnolias, Dumplin, and more.

Covington is a quiet, charming, and walk-able town, and the hotels are a 5 to 10-minute drive away. I enjoyed my stay at the Hampton Inn in Covington.

There are several excellent restaurants in the town square. Mystic Falls Tours offers fantastic filming location tours as well as a museum and retail shop filled with props, clothing and merchandise. Theres even a park in town with hammocks where we took a relaxing rest during our visit.

Atlanta, and the surrounding area, is often called the Hollywood of the South because so many movies and TV shows are filmed there. If you want to see where some of your favorite shows are filmed, I can tell you where to stay in Atlanta to tour filming locations.

Hotels.com asked me to share my tips for where to stay in Atlanta for the best access to filming locations. The following suggestions are from my personal experience after many visits to Atlanta!

Filming takes place in Atlanta and its suburbs for shows like Stranger Things, The Walking Dead, Ozark, Cobra Kai, The Vampire Diaries, and many more. If you want to visit lots of different locations, be prepared to drive a lot, since many filming locations are about an hour outside of Atlanta.

I recommend staying in a hotel just north of downtown with easy access to I-85 or I-75. The Marriott Century Center at 2000 Century Blvd NE or Homewood Suites Atlanta-Galleria Cumberland at 3200 Cobb Pkwy SE are both excellent choices.

You could also choose to stay in the heart of downtown Atlanta at the luxurious Georgian Terrace Hotel. This gorgeous hotel was used as a filming location for Cobra Kai, as well as movies such as The Internship, Anchorman 2, and The Change-Up. Its also where cast members have been known to stay during filming, so who knows who you might run into in the lobby!

The City Itself Was Amazing

The city itself was amazing!! What we came for was 100% accurate. The only thing i would recommend is being careful when booking hotels especially if you dont know the area or this is a first visit. We booked Baymont by Wyndham at covington and what you see online is not what you get. And i could have stayed much longer and been ok with it if i had gotten a better room.

Great Place Great Location Just Great

This is a truly amazing property which is full of amazing history. The staff were all so friendly and helpful. It is literally a 5 min walk into Covington with plenty of restaurants to choose from. The breakfasts are traditional southern fare so bring your biggest appetite! The cheese and wine at 5pm is a nice touch and really gives you a chance to mingle if you wish. This was our first B& B experience in the USA and definitely wont be the last. nick1981

This Was A Wonderful Weekend Trip

This was a wonderful weekend trip. The town square had wonderful shops and places to eat. We loved Scoops for ice cream and the Mystic Grill for lunch . Seeing all the homes where movies/series were filmed were so interesting. Loved the Alley gift shop for Vampire Diaries gifts. The Welcome Center was so nice with lots of memorabilia and maps of the area. Everything was so easy to walk to from the town . The homes in the neighborhoods were breathtaking and we took several pictures in front of the clocktower in town. Everyone we encountered were so friendly. We also loved our ghost tour. The purpose of our trip was of course for the Vampire Diaries.

Beyond The Covington Square

For those looking for more Vampire Diary locations, hop in the car and head over to Sandy Springs, GA but you might need to call ahead to make sure youre able to see the Salvatore Boarding House at 688 Abernathy Rd. NE. The boarding house is actually Glenridge Hall, a private residence located in the suburbs.

As far as specific filming locations, that is all we were able to find although we did get to see some of the extras for Footloose 2 getting set to film near the courthouse in downtown Covington. I didnt recognize and of the people but they were all dressed as if they were going to a prom. My wife has already decided that we are going to be extras in The Vampire Diaries at some point so we are planning another trip to Covington for that reason alone. My Fangirl Trip To The Twelve Oaks Bed & Breakfast

I knew by the way the Covington Convention and Visitors Bureau spoke about the Twelve Oaks Bead & Breakfast that it was something remarkable. Yet no amount of conversation would have prepared me for that first moment of seeing it. I can see why the producers chose this place. And to think, I was about to stay where the Vampire Diaries was filmed!

It was about 5 pm when we first rolled up to the crescent driveway, a New Years Eve chill blasted me as I flew open the car door. But it wasnt the chill in the air that froze my jaw to the ground, it was the towering, white-pillared mansion set just up a slight hill with its black shuttered windows and giant wrap around porch which left me in a trance staring at this place.

When we opened the door it was like something from a movie! Crystal chandeliers lit every room. Beautiful hard wood floors with pristine antiques and a classic design fit for a first family .
