Where Not To Stay In Denver

Crime On Rise In Denver Metro Area During Stay-At-Home Order

The first thought you might have when reading this is about safety. But rest assured, Denver is a safe place as far as cities go. Theres a general laid back attitude among locals, and the rates of violent crimes are very low by comparison. That being said, the legalization of marijuana in 2012 sparked an influx of new residents and green tourism. In short, that just means there are more people around. As long as you remain the savvy, reasonably cautious traveler you are, you should have no issues.

In the Capitol Hill area, Colfax Avenue has quite the historical reputation for debauchery. Named after Schuyler Colfax, Vice President to Ulysses S. Grant, its long been a rowdy thoroughfare. That reputation is largely a relic of 1980s-1990s Denver. These days, youll likely just find people walking home from the restaurants, bars, and popular music venues that line the famed longest commercial street in America.

If you plan on doing a lot of walking to and from your accommodations in the late evenings, areas to avoid are pretty much relegated to late-night only caution. While perfectly safe in the daytime hours, the area east of Five Points and west of Park Hill between City Park and 40th Avenue should be avoided if youre walking alone late at night.

Best/safest Part Of Town To Stay In Denver

I am going to red rocks for a concert. I have no idea about the area. The next day my friend is wanting to go on a brewery tour and also at some point shes wanting to go to a smoke shop since those dont exisit in our state I need some direction. What area is the best to stay in within walking distance of these activities but also safe. Im pretty picky about hotels. But not wanting to spend a over $140 a night. Any suggestions on cheap activities/brewery tours and also best smoke shops would be great. Thanks!

I am not sure you will find what you want. A nice hotel within walking distance to breweries and cannabis in a safe area will likely cost more than 140.00. That said look at Denver.org they have specials, Usually the Hilton Garden Inn and Sheraton Denver Downtown Hotel would be the closest. Sometime The Curtis too. At times I have seen the Magnolia with rates near that. Of those I’d go with the Magnolia then the Curtis.

Recommended Area: Central Business District & Downtown Denver

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Downtown Denver is home to some of the citys best accommodations. Here, you can find uber-cool boutique properties like The Oxford Hotel, big-name business hotels such as The Westin Denver Downtown, and a few more budget-friendly options like the SpringHill Suites by Marriott.

Downtown Denver, also known as the Central Business District, is, as its name suggests, located right in the Colorado capitals epicenter.

This area is Denvers main commercial, financial, dining, nightlife, and shopping district.

Some of the best restaurants, bars, and shops in Denver are around Larimer Square, the citys oldest historic block, located in the heart of the downtown area.

The Colorado capital also stands out for its thriving beer scene. Two important breweries are in this district: Wynkoop Brewing Company, the first of its kind in Denver, and Great Divide Brewing Company.

Attractions in this district include the Colorado State Capitol, the History Colorado Center, and the Denver Art Museum , with an impressive collection of American Indian and West American Art.

The Denver Performing Arts Complex is also in this area and is home to the Sculpture Park, with two 49-foot-high iconic sculptures called The Dancers. This venue hosts theater plays, dance recitals, and concerts regularly.

Another iconic Downtown Denver site is the Big Blue Bear, a 40-foot high sculpture located in the Colorado Convention Center.

Day 2: Morning

After Day 1, you might want to sleep in, so lets begin our second day with a later brunch.

But first, coffee.

The best coffee in Denver, hands down, is at Huckleberry Roasters, which has two spots in Denver. One of them, their flagship, is close to where youll be brunching, so head there to start the day off right. Whether youre looking for a crisp & clean single origin, or a smooth and creamy latte, theyve got you covered.

Head over to Root Down, which is my favorite restaurant in Denver. Great ambiance, friendly staff, loved by the locals, and a great menu. They are always happy to produce vegan and gluten-free options. Id say that brunch here is a must-do in Denver.

After brunch, check out some of the other LoHi hotspots.

Healthy and on-trend, Kombucha fermented tea is worth seeking out, and theres nowhere better than American Cultures. Here, they specialize in combining Kombucha with ice cream, proving that its a combination made in heaven! The huge variety of Kombuchas they make are on tap, and the ice cream is locally made by Scrumptious and Sweet Action. American Cultures is super light and airy, and a must-visit. Theyre closed now. So sad.

Tip 1 Dont Stay At Denver International Airport

Living In Denver Colorado: Best Restaurants

If you are new to Denver and searching for hotels on many booking sites, you may be tempted by relatively good deals for hotels near Denver International Airport . Unless you are specifically coming for a conference that takes place in one of those hotels, or unless you are just transiting through DIA, do NOT stay at or near DIA. The airport in Denver is ridiculously far from the city, owing to the location of the Rocky Mountain Arsenal Wildlife Refuge, so staying at the airport means being isolated from pretty much anything else in town.
