Sami Best For A Local Vibe

Sami is located in the eastern part of the island and a 40-minute drive from Kefalonia Airport. Thanks to its status as the second-largest port on the island and its proximity to many coastal villages, Sami is also a famous stopover place for the yachts and boats.

Here you will find pebble beaches such as Karavomilos, and Antisamos Beach, tavernas and bars with local vibes, and nice souvenir shops.

Even though it is a popular town in Kefalonia you will feel a traditional Greek island atmosphere in Sami. Personally, Ive always liked this kind of town which enables you to have local experiences so if you are a person like me you will enjoy staying in Sami.

Lets check out the best places to stay in this beautiful town.

Things to do in Sami

  • Spend time on the Karavomilos Beach
  • Take a boat to Ithaca
  • Enjoy nice seafood in a traditional Greek tavern with a sea view
  • Go swimming in the crystal clear water at Antisamos Beach

Things To Do In Crete With Kids

Crete is a blessed land and we can never get enough of it. We enjoy our trips around the Northwest coast, sometimes not as windy as the South , some of them among the best beaches for children in Crete.

The capital, Heraklion will offer your family the best of both worlds. Heraklions shore stretches to the East and to the West of its center. The bays of Ligaria and Agia Pelagia are good and safe places for kids to swim. Add to the beaches stunning theme parks, such as Dinosauria and the Labyrinth, the Archaeological Museum, and the Minoan Palace of Knossos and the result is a wonderful recipe for family Summer success!

The North Coast Of Heraklion

Where To Stay In Santorini, Greece: Top 31 Family

Heraklion receives thousands of visitors all year round and several thousand more every summer. The main reason for that is the magnificent Archaeological Site of Knossos, the cradle of western civilization, which is located about 11 km from the center of Heraklion.

This makes the capital one of the best places to stay in Crete since youâll be able to reach and explore the famous archaeological site easily.

In Heraklions northern region, itâs also possible to visit several water parks, an aquarium, and different theme parks that children love, such as Dinosauria Park and Labyrinth Park, all of them just minutes from the city center.

Always in the region of Heraklion, itâs also possible to explore the Archaeological Museum of Heraklion and the Minoan Palace of Malia, another wonderful archaeological site that both young kids and adults enjoy exploring.

Faliraki Great Area To Stay In Rhodes For Nightlife

What a difference three kilometres makes. From the quiet laid back atmosphere of Kallithea, to one of the main sports for partying in Rhodes. Welcome to Faliraki.

With its days of being the 18-30 party destination of the Greek Isles long gone, Faliraki has morphed into a resort to suit all ages and tastes.

Its main sandy beach stretches five-kilometres along the coast, and is full of sunbeds and parasols for the sun worshippers to tan in comfort. With a gentle slope into the sea, young children can safely play around the shore, while teenagers, mums, and dads can try their hand at every type of water sport you can think of.

Boat trips ply their trade throughout the day from the small harbour or off the beach, and make a pleasant break from the tropical sun.

For lunch you can buy baguettes, sandwiches, juicy melon, hot nibbles, and cold drinks from the beach bars. Or stroll the promenade, and enjoy a snack in the shade, on the terrace of one of the many tavernas and cafes that stretch along the front.

If you like beach time, but busy-busy doesnt do it for you, there are three smaller beaches close by, although in the height of the season even they can get busy.

Check out Kathara Beach, a short walk from the main beach and Anthony Quinn Bay and Ladiko Beach, which are a short taxi ride south of the main town, but well worth the few euros fee.

For those in party mood, head for Club Street and Bar Street, and prepare to party till dawn.

Best Greek Islands For Families

Greek islands are some of the most family friendly destinations in the world, but they are not all the same even though they have lots of similarities. In my opinion, Crete is the largest greek island and it is in my opinion the best option for a family vacation in Greece.

The best greek island for families is Crete , with hundreds of family friendly beaches and some of the best family resorts in the mediterranean.

There are very specific things you might be looking for a family trip to the greek islands, but I honestly believe that being close to amazing sandy beaches is probably the top thing you will be doing. To be totally honest, you wont have a bad time on any of the greek islands but islands such as Crete, Naxos, Santorini, Corfu, Skiathos, Paros or Ios probably have a slightly better infrastructure to make your family trip an amazing experience.

The beaches of the Greek islands are ideal for kids as they provide an endless playground!

Kalathos Total Relaxation In The Beach

If your idea of a good holiday is total relaxation away from the hustle and bustle of modern living, Kalathos fits the bill. The village of Kalathos is set slightly inland, with a 15 minute stroll in the sunshine to the sea.

The beach stretches four-kilometres with few amenities, so be sure to take a cool-box filled with drinks and snacks if you dont want a long walk back and fore.

As you leave the beach, a popular watering hole is the Konstantin Taverna, while the village itself has some excellent bars offering traditional dishes such as Stifado, Mousakka, and Lamb Kleftiko.

Drop into Castellas bar for your sports fix. Look out for Ostria Taverna if you like a little magic with your meal, or call into the Olive Grove for hospitable expat service.

If you fancy some time at Kalathos during your stay in Rhodes, the Antrium Hotel is one of the larger establishments, but there is an excellent selection of privately owned self-catering rooms, apartments, and villas, as well as family owned guest houses and smaller hotels.

Is Corfu Good For Families

Yes, Corfu definitely passes the test too! Corfu is another great contender for family holidays in Greece. I traveled with the kids as a solo mom and I always felt safe and cared for. Being a mom traveling alone with two kids can feel overwhelming at the beginning , and from bus drivers to waiters in tavernas, to just random people on the streets and on the beach, everyone was hospitable and willing to help.

We stayed for two weeks on the northern coast of the island and on that particular occasion I decided not to drive and try organized tours and public transport. It was quite easy to book excursions fit for children. We even sailed to Antipaxos, jumped off the boat, and enjoyed snorkeling in a really deep shore and everything went super smooth.
