Waterfront Lodging In Hyannis
It might surprise you to learn that there are only a few waterfront hotels in Hyannis – the kind where you can step out of your room and onto the beach.
That’s because much of the waterfront is either public property or owned by private homeowners or businesses.
Even so, there are several very nice locations in Hyannis where you can get a room with a view:
- Anchor In Hotel – set up on a hill overlooking Hyannis Harbor, Anchor In is in a perfect setting for relaxing by the pool or on the balcony, watching the private yachts and island ferries coming into and out of the harbor. Anchor Inn is open year round, and it’s within walking distance of the Steamship Authority ferry pier.
- The Yachtsman – this is condominium-style lodging overlooking Lewis Bay, and just steps away from Kalmus Beach, Veterans Beach, the Kennedy Memorial and the Hyannis Yacht Club. Condos rent by the week. Open year round.
Hyannis Is A Convenient Cape Location For Couples And

Hyannis is a convenient Cape location for couples and families, with good restaurants and shopping around Main Street. There are really nice beaches, but most charge a hefty admission. Hyannis is also great to take a ferry to Martha’s Vineyard or Nantucket, but the parking for that is also expensive. This location is central to other Cape spots and is worth a visit.

Falmouth And Woods Hole
Attractions in and around Falmouth are many and there is something for everyone to enjoy. A few of these are Woods Hole Aquarium, Falmouth Museums on the Green, Nobska Point Lighthouse, the Oceanographic Institution, the National Marine Fisheries Aquarium and lots of others that are easily reached on foot or by the Shining Sea Bikeway. Several local shops offer cycle rental.
From Falmouth it is easy to sail across to Marthas Vineyard on one of the scheduled ferry crossings or there are schooner cruises, ocean research cruises and of course no holiday to Cape Cod would be complete without attending a Clambake Dinner. There are nature walks, places to picnic, fishing, parks, bowling, roller blading, mini-golf, and so much more that no one can ever visit Falmouth and be bored!
In the main summer season there are free outdoor concerts and free films under the stars in the Margaret E. Noonan Park. Just take a blanket or fold up chair and enjoy the atmosphere. There are numerous restaurants, a French bakery, ice cream and frozen yoghurt shops, a weekly farmers market and many arts and crafts events.
Falmouth has the warmest water on the Cape for swimming and with around 90 kilometres of coastline and ten beaches there is room for everyone. Sunsets from Falmouth are simply stunning and some of the best beaches to see them from are Old Silver Beach and Chapoquoit Beach, aka Happy Chappy by the locals.

Hy-Line Cruises offer high-speed ferries that can take you to and/or from Marthas Vineyard and Nantucket, or even go on an inter-island adventure or cruise along the shore of Hyannis. There are food and drink options onboard if you want to have something to whet your tastebuds while on board. During summer, its a good idea to make parking reservations beforehand as slots disappear quickly.

Otherwise known as Sea Street Beach, Keyes Memorial Beach is a good option for those who want to avoid the crowds, as this is one of the lesser-known beaches in the area. While not as popular compared to the other Hyannis beaches, it does come complete with everything that you may need, including lifeguard services, picnic tables, grills, bathrooms, and snack bars. If you want to try your hand at fishing, there are some spots here where you can do just that. Entry to the beach is free, but if youre bringing your car, do be aware that theres a parking fee here.

Halfway Between Rockland Me And Hyannis Ma
Looking for small coastal town suggestions for one night between Rockland Me and Hyannis Ma. Ive searched.

I suppose it all depends on what you want to see down the coast and when you’ll be doing this trip? Will you leave early from Rockland and explore all the way down? It’s only a little over 4 hours with no stops to Hyannis Port.
Looking at the map I’d suggest touring all the way down the coast with an early start and then stop for the night in Gloucester, MA or the village of Rockport, MA. If that feels too far then maybe York, ME or Portsmouth, NH?
I guess it all depends on what your overall plan is for that day.

Will you be traveling on a weekday or a weekend? If you stay overnight somewhere north of Boston on a weekday, youll want to time your travel to avoid the morning rush hour traffic going into Boston. Similarly, if you decide not to stay overnight along the way, youll want to leave Rockland early enough to avoid the afternoon rush hour going south from Boston . If a weekend, you wont have to worry about the Boston traffic, but on a Saturday, will hit traffic going to the Cape.

Hyannis Harbor And Waterfront
As you walk along Main Street, not too far from the Kennedy Museum you’ll notice a brick pathway winding down through the Town Green. This is the “Walkway to the Sea”, leading to Hyannis Harbor.
Walkway to the Sea – Hyannis, Massachusetts
Strolling along the Walkway, you’ll pass the stately old Town Hall building. Then you’ll come to Aselton Park and your first view of the inner harbor.
Glimpse of the Harbor from Aselton Park
Lots of folks come to Hyannis Harbor every day to catch a ferry to or Nantucket.
But there’s much more to see and do on the Hyannis waterfront than just wait for the ferry.
On Land …
- As you reach Asleton Park, look to your left and you’ll see the Cape Cod Maritime Museum perched up on the knoll overlooking the Harbor. It’s a small museum with some fascinating exhibits about Cape Cod’s rich seafaring history. Ther Museum if wonderful for all ages, and it’s well worth a half-hour visit!
- When it’s time for a bite to eat, head down to the dock area and stop by Spanky’s Clam Shack. Order up a cool drink and maybe some fresh seafood. Enjoy the breeze on the outdoor patio, and watch the boats come in. Spanky’s patio is a great place to rest your weary legs and re-fuel after a busy morning exploring Main Street.
- Then wander through the artist shanties, just beyond Spanky’s. They’re the cutest little buildings where some incredibly talented artisans from the Harbor Your Arts project display their creativity.

Fishing Charters In Hyannis Ma
Fishing is one of the most popular activities in any seaside community, and Cape Cod is no different. If you want to go fishing while on vacation, the most convenient way is to book a fishing charter. That way, you wont have to worry about packing anything but your personal belongings.
There are several different fishing boat companies that leave from Hyannis Harbor, including Hy-Line cruises. Those fishing journeys offer 4-hour cruises that are open to multiple parties. You can also book a private charter, which is more expensive but might be better for younger kids.
Harbor And Whale Watching Cruises
With that gorgeous harbor location, its no surprise that there are lots of harbor and whale watching cruise options. If you want to spend some time on the water seeing Cape Cod from a different vantage point, Id recommend that you take one of these cruises.
There are several companies offering these types of trips. Popular options include Hy-Line Cruises, Bay Spirit Cruises, and Hyannis Whale Watcher Cruises.
If you do want to take a Whale Watcher cruise, you should know that they run for about 3 1/2-4 hours. This is due to bot the distance that must be traveled, as well as the speed that must be maintained.
While you may be able to find last-minute availability for these cruises, I definitely recommend booking in advance. Availability can be limited in the busy summer season.

Enjoy A Cone From Katie’s Homemade Ice Cream
No trip to Hyannis would be complete without a visit to Katies Homemade Ice Cream, which is dubbed as offering the best ice cream on Cape Cod. Flavors depend on the season, so every visit here will practically mean getting a new opportunity to test out new tastes on your taste buds. While classic flavors such as vanilla and chocolate are a staple here, if youre feeling adventurous, you can try out more exotic ones such as a ginger lemon cookie, rosemary fig, rum raisin, and lavender honeycone. Lines can get long, but it moves pretty fast so you can get your cone quickly even if theres a queue outside.

If youre a foodie, do yourself a favor and have a meal at Brazilian Grill, a traditional Brazilian barbecue restaurant wherein servers carve up meat right on your plate. You have a variety of meat skewers to choose from, so be sure to pace yourself so you can get the portions that you like. If youre not much of a meat-eater, theres also a salad bar in the restaurant where you can get other food items, even sushi, and sashimi. You can enjoy cocktails with your meals here, and you can also try out authentic Brazilian beer to complete your experience.
