Amboseli Safaris National Park

Price From: $ 740Tour Duration: 3 DaysNumber of Persons: 6 or less.

Amboseli national Park is the second famous park in Kenya and is located approximately 240km from Nairobi Kenyas capital in Kajiado County, it covers 8,000sqkm. The Park derived the name Amboseli from a Masai word that means Salty dust, its former name was Masai Amboseli game reserve. The local people around this place are mostly Masai though also other people from different parts of Kenya stay around. The rainfall received in this area is approximately 350mm which is lower than that received in other parts of the country.

Amboseli is one of the best places for game viewing since it is endowed with wildlife such as the very many numbers of elephants, impalas, waterbucks, giraffes, elands, big cats like cheetahs, lions, over 400 bird species such as kingfishers, pelicans, and other attractions include Masai villages and the beautiful spectacular views of Mt. Kilimanjaro.

You can get to Amboseli by road and by air since there is a small airport in the park called Amboseli Airport. Also while in the park follow all rules- they are set for the good of the tourists and wildlife like No harassing animals, No driving off tracks. Another thing to note is that the roads in the park are of volcanic soil so they get muddy and impassable during wet/rainy seasons and are too dusty in the dry season.

& beyond Kichwa Tembo Tented Camp

Set in the path of the Great Migration, one of the worlds most spectacular wildlife events, this Camp is a must-visit. But even if you visit when the Great Migration is not in town, Kichwa Tembo offers plenty to see and do.

Diverse wildlife is abundant in the area, and you can expect to encounter wildebeest, zebra, lion, elephant, cheetah, buffalo, and giraffe, among many others. In the Ngama Hills region in the eastern Mara, you can spot the rare black rhino.

40 tents of various capacities make up the accommodation at Kichwa Tembo. Each tent showcases a contemporary style, with neutral tones and textures. Theres also an on-site pool to keep you cool in summer and a shop you can browse for arts, crafts and other souvenirs.

When Is The Best Time To Go To Kenya

What you are looking for will dictate when you travel. Kenya is equatorial and as such it is the altitude, rather than the latitude, that determines local climates. The coast remains warm and humid, with rain peaking from April to June , with shorter rains in October and November.

The Mara and the central highlands have a cooler, temperate climate, due to their elevation. Whilst warm and pleasant during the day, they can become quite cold at night. The outline below should give you an idea as to what each month offers:

One of the hottest and driest times of the year. Little water around and, in theory, a great time for game viewing. However, temperatures can be sweltering.

South-eastern monsoon winds bring the long rains, so much of the wildlife is giving birth in preparation for the lush vegetation that will follow. It is also a great time for birders, as the birds are in their mating plumage and wildflowers are in abundance. It can be very wet, however, and a number of the coastal properties close. This is also known as the green season.

The best time to witness the wildebeest migration and the coolest time of the year. It can get very busy in the Mara National Reserve, so you need to pick your spot carefully. All of the other parks are easily accessible but free from the Maras crowds.

Hang Out With Giraffes At Giraffe Manor

Where To Stay In Amboseli Park In Kenya

The Rothschild Giraffe is one of the most endangered species of giraffe in the world with the only ones left being located in Uganda and Kenya. To combat the problem a 140-acre plot of land was bought outside of the city to increase the giraffe population except now the owners needed a place to live. The ivy-covered brick mansion in the middle of the property was to be their home but after living there for some time they decided to turn their mansion into a luxury hotel and dining experience.

Every morning the giraffes stick their heads in the large windows of the hotel and check out whats going on with the guests inside. Either sticking their necks down in the lower rooms or stretching up to check out the upper floors. They might slurp up whatever is on your plate then go about their day. Or simply just stick their neck in and see whats happening with guests. The giraffes have unrestricted roaming rights, so really, youre on their property anyways.

We actually have not done this due to the cost of the Giraffe Manor, but there is a Giraffe Sanctuary near by that you can visit and have a wonderful time.

What Advice Would You Give On Photography In Kenya

Kenya is a photographers dream, with an ever-changing landscape, spectacular wildlife and a rich and colourful cultural heritage. However, always ask permission when photographing people. When on safari, to get decent shots you need to consider a camera with at least a 300mm zoom lens.

Some camps are better suited to photographers, with many of the guides being amateur photographers themselves. But all guides have a knack of getting people in the right place at the right time. The shoulder season in October and November is particularly good for photography, as the light rains clear the air, keep the scenery lush and the animals healthy. There are usually spectacular skies at this time of year and far fewer tourists.

All camps have facilities to charge camera batteries and some even have specialist lenses that you can borrow.
