Be sure to check out the Sunset Bar & Terrace around sunset and soak in the view of the lush banks across the river while you sip on fruity cocktails.

How To Beat The Tour Groups

Like I said before, avoiding the tour groups when you visit Luxor completely is practically impossible but, for some reason, most of them start with the Valley of the Kings. For this reason, you should leave the Valley of the Kings for last. It closes around 5 pm, so you should get there at 3:30 pm, when most people leave.

Therefore, when you wake up in the morning, go straight to the ticket office. No need to say that the earlier you go, the fewer people youll find. Once you get your tickets, visit the Habu Temple first, before the visitors come. When you finish, ride to the Tombs of the Nobles afterwards, visiting the Seti Temple. Take a lunch break and, around 3 pm, head to the Valley of the kings.

Important note: Due to the crisis, most of the restaurants are closed so, I highly recommend bringing your own food.

Tomb Of Tutankhamun Replica & Carter’s House

This modest mud-brick house is where Carter set up home during the long search for Tutankhamun’s tomb. In the garden here, you can also visit an exact replica of the Tomb of Tutankhamun from the Valley of the Kings.

The tomb replica’s burial chamber is an exact copy of the original down to the finest detail, including dust. It was created by the Factum Foundation for Digital Conservation in collaboration with Egypt’s Ministry of Antiquities as an experiment in contemporary preservation.

Millions of tourists come to Egypt each year specifically to see this country’s Pharaonic tombs and temples but at the same time, that footfall into the sensitive atmosphere of the tombs is heavily degrading them. Come here to be wowed at just how perfect the replica is, and consider how replicas like this could be used to help conserve original sites in the future. You can’t spot the difference.

Carter’s House itself has been restored, with the rooms laid out as they would have been while he lived here, and the walls display interesting black-and-white photographs documenting his work.

The site is on the main West Bank road, just past the turnoff that leads to the Mortuary Temple of Seti I.

How To Beat The Crowds

Easy. Since the Temple of Luxor is situated in the city center and also opens at night, many tour groups and people decide to visit it during the evening hours and the Karnak Temple during the morning hours. Therefore, you just need to do it the other way around. Wake up as early as possible to visit the Luxor Temples and, after lunch, around 3 pm, head to the Karnak Temple .

Important:Opening hours vary per temple and season. Some of them open at 6am while other at 8am. I suggest you ask at your hotel. Furthermore,pPlease note that both temples receive visits all day long. As I said, avoiding the crowds is impossible but, my suggested timings are definitely the least busy ones.

The Old Market Street souq in Luxor is the perfect spot to get that Egyptian souvenir youve been eyeing during your Egyptian vacation. Colorful lamps, resin pharaoh statues, alabaster stone vases, and gold jewelry are just a few of the many types of souvenirs youll encounter.

Haggling is expected so expect to negotiate a price that is about 50% the initial offered price. But keep in mind that youre only really haggling over a few dollars and they probably need it more than you do.

Be sure to check out our favorite shop, Aladdins Hule, for a huge selection of antique treasures. Even if you dont buy, its worth a stop to meet the hilarious and eccentric owner.

Stroll Around Temple Of Hatshepsut

Temple of Hatshepsut is an ancient Egyptian temple constructed by Queen Hatshepsut in the 15th Century BC and it is considered to be a masterpiece of ancient architecture.

The temple consists of 3 massive terraces that rise above the desert that takes you to a number of shrines inside the cliff behind it. There are some really impressive columns and carvings to see once you are inside. The place is pretty big and it can take you an hour to see all it has to offer.

Now, if the Temple of Hatshepsut seems familiar to you even though you have not been here before, you are not alone. For those of you who are gamers, the layout of the temple will be very familiar to you.

Well, if you have played Serious Sam 3, a first-person shooting game released way back in 2011, you will realize that one of the maps in the game is based on this temple and you should be able to explore the place like the back of your hands.

The temple opens from 6 AM to 5 PM every day and the entrance fee is 140 EGP per person. If you are going on a tour, the ticket price should be included in the tour price.

Luxor One Of The Most Unique Places To Stay In Egypt

LUXOR, EGYPT

Luxor dwells on the east bank of the magnificent Nile River in the south of Egypt. Luxor is the site of the ancient city of Thebes. Not ringing a bell? That was the pharaohs capital city during the 16th through 11th centuries BC. Take that for unique!

Luxor definitely is one of the top places to stay in Egypt given its incredible history and surviving monuments. The Karnak Temple Complex is a fortified village that contains an impressive amount of temples, pylons, and chapels.

The other most famous ancient site in Luxor is the Royal Tombs of the Valley of the Kings and the Valley of the Queens. These tombs are true wonders of the ancient world.

How To Get Around Luxor Egypt

If you are staying in the city center, there are some places in this article that you can walk to like Luxor Temple but for further away places, you are going to need something more.

This is the cheapest way to get around Luxor and it is how the locals move around the city. It costs around 2 EGP a ride and the minibus are clearly marked with different colors and run on fixed routes.

Places like Karnak Temple can be easily reached by minibus. The problem will be which minivan to get on and the easiest way to know is to ask your hostel/hotel to point you to do the right one. It is a fun way to get around Luxor and great if you are looking for a crazy adventure. ð

You can also hire a taxi to take you to all the tourist attractions on the East Bank of Luxor for around 300 EGP and around 500 EGP to explore the West Bank but I wouldn’t recommend this. You will have to deal with taxi drivers, some aren’t very nice, and it will end up costing you way more than to just go with an organized tour.

For other places that are further away like The Valley of the Kings and Mortuary Temple of Queen Hatshepsut, going with a tour is highly recommended as it will allow you to see all of these places without you having to deal with the logistics. I went this route and I was happy I did that.

I would have killed myself if I had to deal with another scammy taxi driver again in Egypt ð. God, they are everywhere!

Hot Air Balloon Ride Over Luxor At Sunrise

If you are spending another day in Luxor, I highly recommend you sign up for Hot Air Balloon Ride over Luxor to see Luxor and all its stunning tourist attractions from a perspective you have yet to see, from the air.

The hot air balloon is also one of the most affordable rides you can get with a tour costing only around 30 – 40 USD per person and you will be in the air for around 45 minutes flying over places like the Valley of the Kings which is best appreciated from the air.

Keep in mind that riding a hot air balloon is dependent on favorable weather and the trip may get canceled at the last minute so do not keep your hopes up too high. To book the tour, you can hit the link below:
