What To Do In Mallorca For Couples
Mallorca is certainly a popular destination for weddings, honeymoons, and romantic breaks of all kinds. For starters, there are plenty of adults-only hotels that cater to couples, from remote fincas in the scenic countryside to luxurious spa hotels with stunning sea views. If hitting the water is your idea of romance, there are numerous charter companies around the island where you can hire a boat for a half-day, full day, or longer and many dont require a license. This is one way to find that secluded spot and spend some quality time with your sweetheart. Alternatively, doe-eyed lovers can hop in a hot-air balloon to enjoy stunning mountain and sea panoramas while gliding across the island at sunset a perfect setting for popping the question.
Belmond La Residencia Deia
Best hotel in Mallorca for: a sophisticated stay
Here is a hotel every bit as beautiful as it first looks. One that it would be utterly remiss of you not to visit at some point in your life. The dramatic route around thrilling hairpin bends, past sheer drops and narrow gorges, is worth enduring to get to turbo-chic Deià on Mallorcas west coast. The English poet Robert Graves first drew everyones attention to the village when he moved here in 1929. Then, in 1987 Richard Branson bought La Residencia and transformed it into one of the most romantic hotels in the Mediterranean.
The vastness of the property, now owned by Belmond, is stealth-like, a warren of centuries-old buildings hidden among the foothills of the Serra de Tramuntana. Despite the 71 bedrooms , an art gallery, two artists studios, four restaurants, two outdoor pools, tennis courts, a kids club, and mountain trails, there is a pervading sense of space and wonderful privacy. All rooms have terraces looking out to the green-shuttered, ochre town and glittering sea, some have their own plunge pool ideal in this sun-trap of a valley. Inside, they are big and cool with splashes of citrus shades, marshmallow-soft beds, and safes concealed behind works of art .

This means its easy to go on any of these day trips no matter which part of the island you are staying in but if you stay in Palma, you will have more tour options for some of these trips. Magaluf Where To Stay In Mallorca For Nightlife
Located on the southwest Calvia coast of Mallorca and just 15km from Palma and the airport, Magaluf has seen a few changes in recent years. Today, the one-time go-to party resort for young Brits letting their hair down is more generally focused.
Much construction has been undertaken, with a modern shopping centre full of high street brands and designer stores in the town centre. In addition, new 4 and 5 star hotels have been built, and high-end beach clubs opened.
Magalufs artificial beach, a one time marsh back in the day, is a stretch of over one kilometre of palm-fringed golden sand that shelves gently into the warm Mediterranean. A beach that many maintain is one of the nicest on the island.
Here you will find numerous water sports to suit all tastes. From sedate submarine and glass-bottomed boat excursions to jet skis, kite surfing, inflatable rides and various boat trips.
Although it gets busy in high season, and the age group tends to be on the younger side, you will still find areas of beach with families, singles and older couples enjoying their holiday in the sun.

For those days away from the beach, if you prefer active to inactive, you can enjoy a round of golf on one of the fabulous 18-hole courses. Play crazy golf at Golf-Fantasia, or a couple of sets of tennis.

Bonus : Mallorca Vs Ibiza Which To Visit
Mallorca and Ibiza may seem very similar places to go to in terms of activities and things to do, but its the little things that distinguish these islands and will help you decide which one to visit.
Overall, Ibiza is a smaller island with an emphasis on partying and nightlife as well as relaxing on beautiful white sandy beaches with a drink in hand. Ibiza is for you if you are looking for a lively club scene with a party atmosphere all day long but be warned it is a little more pricey. Check out our post for the best accommodation choices in Ibiza if this sounds like you!
Whilst there are certainly places to party and incredible beaches in Mallorca too, it is much bigger in both size and scope of activities. If you love a bit more variety on your holiday and enjoy things like hiking, mountain biking, snorkeling, and other outdoor activities, Mallorca will be a better fit for you.
Where To Stay On The Island Of Mallorca
We, i.e. 2 couples will be staying for a week on Mallorca in September, early October 2018 and wonder where to stay? Would prefer to rent an apartment or villa and would consider renting a car. We will be flying into and out of Palma, so wonder if it makes sense to stay there? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.
Stay in Palma. Everywhere is within easy drive from there and nowhere on the island is more than 1 1/2 hours drive away.
There are some fantastic villages in the mountains but they can be expensive and sometimes quite exclusive, Deià in particular plus you may not enjoy the twisty, mountainous drive back and forth everyday.
Palma has the best selection of restaurants and there are plenty of sights to see that should occupy several days if you wish. We visit the island every year, sometimes twice as we own a timeshare there. Its definitely our favourite part of Spain. Driving on the island is very easy, less frenetic than the mainland although Palma obviously experiences the busiest traffic but nothing too troublesome. The only difficulty is parking however if you intend on parking in the large car parks along the waterfront there are plenty of helpful people who will direct you to an empty space in return for a 1 euro tip. I would definitely recommend seeking accommodation that provides parking.
Have a great trip!

For popular purpose-built beach resorts, head to the east coast of the island – families and couples looking to stay in a lively resort with plenty of attractions will be well catered for. The following resorts vary in degrees of commercialisation, bingo and full English breakfasts, but they are all established package holiday destinations largely built around harbours or marinas : Cala d’Or, Cala Millor, Cala Bona, Calas de Majorca, S’Illot and Sa Coma.
A quieter resort popular with older couples is Porto Cristo, built around an old fishing village and famous for the Caves of Drac and Caves of Hams.
Cala Ratjada is a relatively new resort gaining a reputation as the ‘Magaluf for German tourists’ during peak season, which may or may not appeal to you! Between October and April it is popular with older travellers seeking out winter sun.
Palma De Mallorca Where To Stay In Mallorca For Shopping And Sightseeing

Located on Mallorcas northwest coast, Palma is the vibrant capital city of all the Balearic Islands. You cant go wrong by choosing Palma for your stay in Mallorca, virtually all districts have tourism attractions, and the city is simply gorgeous.
With its close-by international airport, large harbour, popular marina, historical architecture resorts, restaurants, art galleries, shops, modern shopping malls, pubs, cafes, theaters, and nightclubs, it is a city that has something for anyone choosing to stay in Mallorca.
Palma is a very pedestrian city that also happens to be the main travel hub for the entire island. Nearly 30 million travelers fly in and out of the international airport each year, and there is also a busy seaport plus a bus and train station.
When you are ready to enjoy the beach, public transportation will take you there in just 15 minutes.
With a history dating back to the bronze age, Palma has, over the centuries, been occupied by the Talayotic people, the Romans and the Moors, before being reconquered in the 13th century by the crusader James I of Aragon.
With so much packed into such a small space, wherever you choose to stay in Palma, you can spend days just strolling the old, narrow, twisting streets, wide avenues, large public squares and different neighbourhoods.
In the evening, as the restaurants, night-time bars and clubs begin to open, La Lonja attracts the night-owls to its pubs, clubs and eateries.

Can Bordoy Grand House And Garden
Best Mallorca hotel for: enjoying Palmas most characterful neighbourhood
Like many special hotels, this one is tricky to find. There are no sign posts. No terrace on the street flowing with hotel guests and a stream of waiters with spritzes. Only the discreet stone archway that leads off the square to what was once a private family home then a school run by nuns indicates you have arrived. Can Bordoy today has been entirely renovated by much-in-demand husband-and-wife architects Jaime Oliver and Paloma Hernaiz of OHLAB. Their aim was to respect the buildings rich heritage but to bring it up to date with contemporary notes. Theres a shady courtyard and a long, stone bar with a low-key reception area a living room with beautiful creeping vines across the ceiling connects to a dining room and a library with views out to the back. The designers have excelled in filling this space with natural light and drama with a mix of both vintage and new furniture. Their vast, custom-made walnut beds and in-room cocktail bars with integrated stereos are real highlights. The basement spa and rooftop sundeck with 360-views and a glass-bottom plunge pool are delightful, as is the Botànic restaurant run by chef Andrés Benitez, focusing on locally sourced organic ingredients. Among the crush of boutique offerings in medieval Palma, Can Bordoy captures the true heart of the place in a way worthy of the moment.
Brondo Architect Hotel Palma
Best Mallorca hotel for: a laid-back stay
This is Palma’s first venture into Architectural Digest-approved contemporary style. This place will delight design freaks and possibly irritate those who don’t share their obsession. For me, the arch mix of original floors and retro furniture with ethnic carpets and contemporary lighting works like a dream. Just don’t expect extreme comforts – it is a laid-back spot where service is conspicuous by its absence and the new wing in particular, with bare concrete and scary, stripped-back brick, has a starkness that might be a little too cool for its own good. Brondo Architect is essentially a design showroom you can stay in, but it certainly adds to the variety and vitality of Palma’s hotel scene.
