Have You Booked A Flight To The Balearic Islands Spain Heres Where To Stay In Menorca
Minorca Menorca in Castilian and Catalan is the easternmost island in the archipelago of the four inhabited Balearic islands. Located in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea, it takes its name from its smaller size to Mallorca.
Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Biosphere Reserve since 1993, the island has a population of just over 93,000 and attracts hundreds of thousands of tourists each year. Many megalithic monuments are scattered on its soil, due to the island being populated since ancient times. It is also the island most protected from mass tourism in the Balearic Islands: this destination will, therefore, delight nature lovers and accommodation in the two main cities to stay in Menorca is cheaper than both Mallorca or Ibiza.
The islands major interest lies in its coastline and its contrasts: turquoise waters and deserted coves in the north, white sandy beaches reminiscent of Corsica in the south, a true natural paradise from Ciutadella to Mahon. Here is a presentation of the cities to stay in Menorca.

Ciutadella Best Area In Menorca For Families
On the opposite end of the island from Maó, Ciutadella de Menorca has transformed a lot over the years. What was once the bustling capital of the island is now a much sleepier city. This super calm atmosphere makes it the perfect spot for families.
Dont be fooled, however. This sleepy little city still has a lot to offer under the surface. Ciutadella was the capital during the British occupation, and you can still find signs dotted around the city. Whilst Maó is the modern hub of the island, Ciutadella offers a more fascinating insight into Menorcas past.
Es Mercadal Where To Stay In Menorca On A Budget
Surrounded by mountains and rolling farmlands, Es Mercadal is the rural heart of the island. What really sets it apart is the lack of tourists, providing insight into the authentic side to life on the Balearics. From locally-owned restaurants and cultural hubs to vast agriculture zones, Es Mercadal is super unique.
This lack of tourism also makes it one of the more affordable places to stay on the island, perfect if youre traveling around Spain on a budget. The few hotels on offer in the area provide some fantastic rates on their rooms. You dont even have to avoid the coast the north of the Es Mercadal region is just as quiet, with some great coastal getaways that wont break the bank.

Binibeca Popular Small Resort On South Coast Of Menorca
Technically, Binebeca is still in the municipality of Sant Lluis. However, what separates this area is that it is a little more upmarket. It consists the Binibeca Vell, Binibeca Nou, and Cala Torret. Gone are almost any signs of the tourist world, allowing you to fully integrate yourself with the local culture, of which there is plenty in every direction.
While the town of Sant Lluis lies to the north, you have the traditional Mediterranean fishing village of Pueblo De Pescadores to the west, the Binibeca beach to the south, and Cala Torret to the east a small area featuring beautiful cliffs and coves, as well as an assortment of bars, restaurants, and shops.
When it comes to accommodation options, gone are the usual large hotels and resorts. Instead, you will find an assortment of classy villas and apartments, which are often rented directly from the locals.
Theres certainly less in the way of nightlife here but you still wont struggle to find a nice local bar to eat and drink the night away in. Binebeca is a quiet resort for those looking for a relaxing holiday. And it is easy to reach the bigger resorts by public transport like Punta Prima, Mahon and Es Castell.
Stay in Binibeca if you dont like touristy areas, you prefer more exclusive accommodation, you like to contribute to the local community, you arent too worried about the price.

I landed in Menorca at 8am and needed a hotel with an on spot-early check in. I called them and they were super nice! There was one room left, they said in 20 minutes it will be clean and ready for you, and they reserved it before I even made the payment on booking.com. It was also the cheapest hotel available, even though the rooms are clean and the location is in Mahon, close to the port. They are friendly, clean, and they have basic but decent breakfast.

Ciutadella Where To Stay In Menorca For Tourists
At the western end of the island, Ciutadella de Menorca is a port city and arrival point for ferries coming from Barcelona. Ciutadella is known for a historic Old Town area, with an interesting mix of Baroque, Gothic and Roman architecture. The harbor area is particularly picturesque, with several Menorca hotels just a short walk away.
There are no Menorca beaches directly in Cuitadella, but they are just a short bus ride away. This makes Ciutadella the best area for tourists who are looking for a cultural experience beyond the beach hotels and resorts. As an added bonus, some of the best beach resorts in Menorca Spain are located along the coast just south of Ciutadella.

Where To Stay In Mallorca: Best Areas
If you are thinking about where to stay in Mallorca, it helps to learn about some of its best spots and what makes them so attractive to VIP tourists such as the Spanish Royal Family, Hollywood actors, professional athletes, musicians, writers, and many others.
The island of Mallorca, also known as Majorca, is widely considered to be the crown jewel of tourism in Europe. Mallorca is the largest of the Balearic Islands, an archipelago that includes Ibiza, Menorca and Formentera. This island has everything you could hope for in a vacation spot: paradisiacal beaches, perfect weather, delicious cuisine, art, culture, nightlife, and more.
To a great extent, Mallorca seems to have been historically destined to become one of the worlds greatest tourism destinations. In 1867, an Austrian archduke landed in Mallorca and acquired several parcels of land with the intention of never leaving.
European nobles began spending long vacations in the late 19th century, and this is where Frédéric Chopin composed some of his famous works such as the Scherzo No. 3 and Ballade No. 2. Notable authors such as Rubén Darío, Jorge Luis Borges and Agatha Christie have traveled here to write.
When you stay in Mallorca, you will experience Mediterranean lifestyle at its best the island has been culturally shaped by Roman, Moorish and Catalan culture, and local residents are known to be very friendly and hospitable.

Fornells: For Water Sportsmen And Foodies
The area of Fornells is in the north of Menorca, along the natural bay of Fornells. Fornells used to be a fishing village that has evolved over time to accommodate a large number of tourists.
In Fornells you can see the Torre de Fornells, a defensive watchtower built around 1801 to protect the entrance to the port of Fornells.
Nowadays Fornells is a very popular village with tourists from all over the world, with a variety of restaurants and shops, temporary markets and lots of nautical activities .
Fornells is somewhat distant from the beaches of the south and also from the towns of Maó and Ciutadella, so if you are only coming to Menorca for a few days it may not be the best option.
Although there are no beaches in Fornells, it is possible to access some nearby beaches that are not very crowded by kayaking.
My favourite plan from Fornells: Kayaking in the bay stopping at Cabra Salada.

Where To Stay In Menorca
The beautiful island of Menorca is a true holiday paradise. Less popular and crowded than the neighbouring Majorca, Ibiza and Formentera, this small island is actually full of natural treasures, dream beaches and many activities.
With a varied tourist offer, ranging from beach holidays, rural stays and active holidays, Menorca’s natural environment and its relaxing atmosphere are its main strengths.
The island is relatively small so it’s quite easy to explore, even if you plan on staying just a few days. All you need is to choose the perfect accommodation, rent a car and plan your favourite activities. Discover with us where to stay during your holiday in Menorca, depending on the type of break you are looking for.
Where To Stay In Menorca: The Best Places To Stay In Menorca
If you are planning to visit this magnificent island, you are probably wondering which is the best place to stay in Menorca. In this article I am going to recommend you the areas and beaches that in my opinion are the best for you to enjoy your holidays to the maximum.
In order to choose the best place to book your hotel, it is a good idea to know a little about the island. Unlike other sun and beach destinations where you stay in the same place for most of your holiday, in Minorca you have to move around to discover its little coves and corners.
Where you stay is important, but I would say that it is less important than in other places if you have a car. Menorca is a small island, about 50 km from end to end, but it has so many attractions in such a small space. Ensuring your mobility will guarantee you a much richer experience.
As well as being known for its incredible beaches, which are among the best in Spain, there are other attractions that deserve some of your time.
Among them, its villages, its nature, the Talayotic culture and the legacy left by those who conquered it in the past such as Arabs, French or English.
On the other hand, the best beaches are virgin beaches where there is nothing or almost nothing built, and where it is obviously not possible to stay. It should be borne in mind that Menorca is a Biosphere Reserve and a large part of its territory is protected and no building is allowed.

Ciutadella Where To Stay In Menorca For History Buffs
Located on the west coast of Menorca, Ciutadella was built by the Romans and was the original capital of Menorca. Even today, the city is surrounded by the Contramurada Wall, following the exact same path it did at the time of the citys construction.
Other than the wall, you will find several good examples of Baroque and Gothic churches in the city. There are churches, plazas, squares, winding streets, and even a cathedral of the Plaza de Pio XII, you can spend your days roaming around to learn more about what the area and indeed the island are truly about.
Placa des Born is one of the most charming squares in Ciutadella. It has an obelisk now stands to memorialize the Turkish invasion. Around this square, you will find the Town Hall, Teatre Municipal des Born , the Torre Saura Palace, and the Salort Palace.
Ciutadella de Menorca Cathedral has the Catalan Gothic style, was built in the fourteenth century with a single nave and several side chapels. There are also some museums and galleries to visit like VidrArt Gallery, Palacio Olivar, and Museum Municipal de Ciutadella.
Unlike Mahon, Ciutadella is a city that is much more about experiencing the culture and history of the area than it is shopping and partying.
Make no mistake, there are still plenty of bars and restaurants to enjoy your evenings in, but these tend to be more local establishments as opposed to the big tourist watering holes youll find elsewhere.
