Not overly crowded, lots of food options with delivery available from most. Coffee is terrible. Weather was hot but typical for summer. Hotel had no coffee of any kind available so either had to drive to find some or do without. Covid-19 is tough, but food was able to be delivered, or curbside pickup…and was very good! Imperial Garden had amazing food and cooked perfectly…delivered right to our hotel room. London Fish and chips was also excellent…FYI the fillets are HUGE!

Pleasanton is about 60 miles from Modesto, and BART does not go to Modesto. Honestly, I do not know of a good public transit alternative for Modesto, and of course a lot depends on where the job is.
And Pleasanton doesn’t exactly have “city life” either. It is a suburb, and AFAIC one of the less attractive ones in the Bay Area.
Would you be OK with semi-urban or even semi-rural life? Stockton is the closest city of much significance, and it’s abour 30 miles from Modesto. I personally have never been terribly impressed with Stockton, but you’ll have to check with locals for better insights. Also, see what people say about Modesto. If I were considering working in Modesto and didn’t want to live right in town, I might think about one of the small towns nearby that are semi-rural, like Oakdale or Turlock. You’d have to drive. And probably have to be content with doing the city life on your days off. .

We were only staying for one night, and this place is perfect for that. The building and rooms were clean and it was nice for the price! But the staff is what made our stay so wonderful! They were helpful and gave us all kinds of great tips about Modesto since we are not from anywhere near there!
