Street Art At Art Alley

If you are a fan of street art, as we are, you have to check out Art Alley. The installation was completed in October 2016 and is a public mural project located at 425 Third Street in Niagara Falls. The 19 colorful wall murals have transformed a pedestrian walkway between the street and a parking area into a wonderful outdoor urban art gallery.

If you are into Instagram, then take the mandatory selfie in front of the Greetings From Niagara Falls New York art.

My Favorite Spot Was The Falls Absolutely Impressive And

My favorite spot was the falls absolutely impressive and gorgeous, there were not much choices for places to eat, just hamburgers and pizza. Moving around Niagara Falls is very easy, everything is walking distance. We went during beginning of spring, it was okay but most of the attractions and rides were closed, we didn’t mind because just being there was a fantastic experience. Highly recommended. Canada side is better than New York side much more fun things to do with kids.

Visit Niagara Falls From New York

Best 5 Star Hotel in Niagara Falls with Panoramic Fallsview Where to Stay in Ontario Canada 2021

Niagara Falls is located in New York State, about 400 miles from Manhattan.

You can get to Niagara Falls from New York City by car, on your own, or on a guided tour.

On your own

On your own, it is best to rent a car and spend at least two days, since the journey takes about 6.30 hours.

Take a plane to Buffalo or Rochester, the two closest airports.

With a guided tour or organized tour, there are different modalities

  • : the visit to the falls lasts 4 or 5 hours and includes:
  • Theyll pick you up at your hotel
  • : It leaves Times Square around 4 am, and it is about 8 hours of travel.
  • Includes Maid of the Mist boat ride

If you have to choose between the last 2 options, the two-day option is much more worth it because of the price difference. You will enjoy it much more, and you will be more rested.

Lundys Lane For Convenience/budget

If you are looking for an area to stay in Niagara Falls that can be easier on the budget and is great if you have a car, Lundys Lane is for you.

Located to the west of downtown Niagara Falls, this long street on the Canadian side has quite a historic past.

The area is known for the famous battle from the War of 1812. The Battle of Lundys Lane occurred in 1814 and was one of the bloodiest battles ever fought on Canadian soil.

Today, the historic street is packed with shops, restaurants, patios, and activities to keep visitors and locals entertained.

You can learn about the famous battle at the Niagara Falls History Museum which is located at the east end of the street.

Check here for Accommodations on Lundys Lane

As for finding a place to stay, the road is lined with cheaper hotels and many budget motels and resorts that make for a good stay if you are with family or looking for a hotel deal.

You can drive back to the falls but its far more convenient and cost-effective to take the WEGO bus .

You might also take a taxi or you can walk to the water depending on how far away you are. Lundys Lane is a long street that gets away from downtown and past the QEW pretty quickly.

Bonus Activities In Niagara Falls New York

There are a few other things near Niagara Falls USA that have nothing to do with the waterfalls:

Old Fort Niagara: This fort was built in the late 1600s and saw action in the French & Indian War, Revolutionary War, and War of 1812. Theyve done a great job at restoring it. There are staff in period costumes as well as musket demonstrations in addition to touring the fort sites. On a clear day, you might be able to see Toronto as you look across Lake Ontario.

Niagara Wine Country: The US version of Niagara wine isnt as well known as Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario but you could still spend a day or more visiting the 20+ vineyards. The wine trail is 30-60 minutes from the falls, so plan accordingly. If time is short, my two favorites are Arrowhead Springs and BlackBird Cider Works.

Art Alley: If youre into art, take twenty minutes to view the street art at Third & Niagara Streets.

Buffalo is only 20 miles from Niagara Falls, so you can get more ideas in my Buffalo travel guide as well.

What Can You See On The American Side Of Niagara Falls

Lets first talk about the differences between the American and Canadian sides of Niagara Falls. The American side of Niagara Falls is in New York State. There are three sections of Niagara Falls: Horseshoe Falls, American Falls, and Bridal Veil Falls. You can see them all from the American side, though you can only get close up to Horseshoe Falls on the Canadian side.

The American side of Niagara Falls is much less commercial and touristy than the Canadian side. I found it to be quieter and more peaceful.

When visiting the American side, youll be in Niagara Falls State Park. Established in 1885, its Americas oldest state park and is open 365 days a year. The park is free to walk through and see the amazing Falls from different vantage points.

Niagara Falls State Park offers several paid attractions including Maid of the Mist, Cave of the Winds, Niagara Adventure Theater, Niagara Gorge Discovery Center, and Niagara Aquarium enough to keep you busy for a couple days and learning the long and interesting history of the Falls.

There are also several hiking trails you can access from Niagara Falls State Park. The Great Gorge Scenic Overlook hike is recommended for beginners. For longer, more challenging hikes, check out the Devils Hole Rapids and Whirlpool rapids hikes!

So whats the absolute best way to see the American side of Niagara Falls? Youll want to take two tours: Maid of the Mist and Cave of the Winds.

Usa Side Of The Falls

This is How to Visit Niagara Falls | NIAGARA FALLS, Toronto Travel

Having spent a day and a night gazing over at American side of the falls, I was itching to cross back over the border and get up close. To cross between Canada and America, you cross the Rainbow bridge, and yes, you do need your passport. There are some kiosks and cafes on this side so you can stop for a break, but the main event is the water.

Once back in America, things felt a little calmer. There arent hotels on the edge of the falls on the US side, but there are parks and pathways to explore. There is a bridge and a lift to get down to access the Maid of the Mist departures, but you can use these if youre not booked on the boat. I was fascinated to see what looked like icebergs at the foot of the American Falls. Niagara does freeze up in winter, which I hear is an amazing sight in its own right.

Strolling further around, you can get within a couple of metres of the tipping point of American Falls. Its mesmerising watching the waters slip over the edge. We walked beside the river and crossed over to Goat Island, which sits at the top of the falls between Bridal Falls and Horseshoe allowing you to get very close to both. I recommend taking the time to walk along all the paths if youre up to the stroll and keen for a close-up view because the views change with every corner you turn. On the far side of Goat Island, you can peer over Horseshoe Falls to complete the perspective youll have seen from the Canadian side.

The Falls Are Stunning

The falls are stunning. To see them at night, just breathtaking. The casino, while small, was fun. I have only ever played 5.00 in a slot machine. Well I decided to play 20 and won a jackpot over 1200. The Red Coach was phenomenal. Their food was excellent and so I was the service. I wish I could say the same for Fuji Grill. It was one the worst meals Ive ever had. And I normally wont send stuff back or complain. However, this was literally inedible. Lastly, The Polked Yolk Abbott in Orchard Park was exceptional! My husband said his hash was literally one of the bests hes ever had. The neighborhoods surrounding the falls and main drag are rundown and feel very unsafe. Some of the people that frequent the area are very shady, gross, and clearly are on something. Glad my husband and I decided to go on our own without our children first. As much as I would love for them to see the falls firsthand, their safety is my priority and this wouldnt be in my top place to ever bring them. Side note- the outlets were awesome but again shady neighborhood and shady patrons.
